Relying solely on on-chip SRAM will never be economically viable for most use cases.

Sounds like DEI hiring initiatives.
Unix was a commercial standard that's lost out to Linux
Re:I am Steve Huffman, the new CEO of Reddit. AMA. (2015) on Wednesday June 14, 2023 @10:05PM (#36335537)
Isn't the third-party API access issue all about preventing Reddit from being overrun by AI/LLM robots? I suppose nothing is stopping them from using web interfaces but it does seem a bit harder than just using APIs

You can't really be 100% postgres compatible without borrowing a lot of implementation
Re:Can We Make Bicycles Sustainable Again? on Tuesday February 28, 2023 @09:20AM (#34969550)
I outfitted a 1982 steel bike frame with 2016 brand new components. No issues then other than bending the rear to take a 130mm axle rather than 126mm. Are 68mm english-threaded bottom brackets and cranks becoming unobtainium in new groups?
I got Covid for the first time last month. Anecdotally I know at least a dozen more who also got it for the first time this past December/January.
Newsflash-- the "market" is becoming less constrained by geography.
Re:US navy released worst rust photo to date on Saturday December 31, 2022 @05:04PM (#34201236)
I sent this article to a US Navy captain I know. He scoffed at it and said it was complete BS. The name of the supposed rusty ship is nowhere to be found in the article or Twitter post (or replies).
Re:Why Today’s Inflation Is Not a Repeat of the 1970s on Wednesday November 02, 2022 @10:16PM (#33446054)
I think it is the labor market. Pandemic caused a lot of people to leave the labor market.

Amazing the comments here. I've used nothing but Google Sheets for 14 years now.

Your own brain is basically a predictor. That's largely how thinking works.
I take a half tablet (10mg) of Xanax every once in awhile. (Maybe once a month on average).

It makes me feel so relaxed.

I knew it was too good to be true.

Ask a Google Software Engineer about debuggers. (they don't exist and printf debugging...aka logging ...is how debugging is done there).

I wonder if there is a psychological effect that could push more stock growth?
Re:UBS Acquires Wealthfront for $1.4B on Wednesday January 26, 2022 @06:36PM (#30093755)
I left Wealthfront and now have about $6M in assets. I'm self-managing with mostly Vanguard funds. My experience with financial advisors has not been great.
Re:UBS Acquires Wealthfront for $1.4B on Wednesday January 26, 2022 @06:34PM (#30093728)
Yes that was my experience. And it sucked. I had 500 individual stocks to deal with.
Re:UBS Acquires Wealthfront for $1.4B on Wednesday January 26, 2022 @06:31PM (#30093689)
I had a lot of money in Wealthfront. It was not a good experience.

First they auto-opted me into some actively managed hedge fund thingy they cooked up. As part of this auto-optin, they caused a non-trivial taxable event. And the fees increased.

When I decided to bail and move my assets elsewhere, I was then left with 500 individual stock equity positions to deal with. What a mess. Took me a long time to sort out that mess and to get my assets into a more manageable situation for an individual. Of course to consolidate I had to take the tax event once they converted to long-term capital gains. I did a lot of this during spring of 2020 which was not a good time to be mucking with stock positions. I lost a fair amount of money.

Finally the tax-loss harvesting is not aware of outside accounts and technically you might be violating tax rules. My accountant ultimately told me over the phone that current reporting rules essentially make this unenforceable though...but he refused to put that in an email.

Figured the title was referring to the stock market.

Re:Poll: Why are people leaving their jobs? on Saturday January 15, 2022 @12:24AM (#29943804)
Miserable, but pulling in $800k/year for the last several years at a FAANG. I have a net worth of $8M and in my 40s. Everyone around me leaving.

Tempted to take a massive paycut to join a startup. But why not milk FAANG a bit more while the gravy train lasts?

"""If you want to stop eating sugar, throw it all away, and when you go to the supermarket go when you have just eaten, and avoid buying sugar and sugary products."""

So much easier when you live alone. My spouse buys sugary crap for my kids and then I have to resist all the time. Which I can't. Thus I am overweight.

Welcome to Google!
Re:Testing the strength of different wood species on Saturday December 18, 2021 @08:55PM (#29610645)
I would have liked to have seen Ipe wood tested. It is nearly twice the density as Red Oak, incredibly hard, and actually has a fire rating in the same category as concrete. https://www.wood-database.com/ipe/
$7.5M euros is a nice sum, but not really enough to do what you suggest IMHO.
If I were you and in the United States, I would go hike the Appalachian Trail or something.
