Re:Why We Terminated Daily Stormer on Wednesday August 16, 2017 @06:54PM (#15032013)
Interesting read. The consequences of this will be important.

I always thought the balkanization of the internet would occur because of world governments not because of tech leaders personal feelings or corporate influence.

I expect tech leaders to be dragged in front of the senate real soon.

Re:We Fight for the Users on Monday August 14, 2017 @07:15PM (#15013894)
Antifa and the nazis should all be thrown in prison.

We dont need political violence and any more escalation.

Dont believe me. How about the atlantic? https://www.theatlantic.com/amp/article/534192/ How about cnn ? https://amp.cnn.com/cnn/2017/08/14/us/what-is-antifa-trnd/in...

Re:Google cancels domain registration for Daily Stormer on Monday August 14, 2017 @02:45PM (#15011344)
A quick google search says yes.

That is a bad sign, and so is this.

My big fear is hate speech will become speaking out against the rich and powerful under the guise of protecting people.

Re:Silicon Valley Tightens Its Grip on Free Speech on Monday August 14, 2017 @02:43PM (#15011321)
This is just asking various world governments to regulate or force google to do stuff.

Its not going to end well.

Re:Google cancels domain registration for Daily Stormer on Monday August 14, 2017 @02:41PM (#15011282)
This is a terrible precedent.

Cant wait until they cancel domain registration of sites that disagree with Google.

Lawyer up asap. Hr will throw you under bus especially in she said he said situation.
Perhaps its time for google and youtube to be regulated.
Hopefully the age discrimination lawsuit against google will change that.
James Damore has gained nearly 20k followers on twitter in a few hrs.

50% of googlers disagree with the firing.

Steve Bannon has knives out for google.

A congressman is calling for a senate investigation of google.

Google managers were caught on twitter bragging about personal and cross company blacklists.

This canceling is obvious damage control, the chief officers have some work to do.

Its a nice excuse. 50% of googlers disagree with the firing of damore.

This will be a shitstorm for google internally and out.

Its probably because business insider reports roughly 50% disagreed with the firing.

This will only get worse because of the extreme polarization.

Plus Bannon is out for googles blood.

Im working on a small project to have ai learn to paint scenes based feeding in styles and objects that I personally classified.

Its been very interesting and almost parental joy to see when the right logical connections are made and the art looks good.

Google probably should be regulated, also they should break up comcast too.
Anything humanizing james is being flagged heavily.
Re:Jordan Peterson Interviews James Damore on Thursday August 10, 2017 @10:53AM (#14980291)
This should be a forced watch before people are allowed to comment on James and the google memo!
It feels like gotcha journalism. The peterson interview is much much better.
Re:Inside the Partisan Fight for Your News Feed on Wednesday August 09, 2017 @08:12PM (#14975040)
Considering google employees were caught talking about political blacklists on social media, the war is reaching the next level.

The right is talking openly about creating a completely parallel everything. The google memo and response just adds fuel to the fire.

Is google going to go thru what uber did?

These kinds of articles do make alot of clicks.

Re:As a Woman in Tech, I Realized: These Are Not My People on Wednesday August 09, 2017 @07:27PM (#14974735)
Because it humanizes James Damore.
Re:As a Woman in Tech, I Realized: These Are Not My People on Wednesday August 09, 2017 @07:24PM (#14974712)
yes how do we get admins to allow discussion on damores peterson interview.

He deserves a chance to speak without others twisting his words.

Admins need to unflag this.

Damore deserves his own words in the face of everyone spinning his words.

Re:James Damore Discusses Google Memo with Jordan Peterson on Wednesday August 09, 2017 @02:27PM (#14972179)
Jordan Peterson's influence is growing day by day.

I cant believe how many teens talk about him.

Even at my internship, "cleaning your room" has become inside joke among the tech team.

Re:Google Can't Seem to Tolerate Diversity on Wednesday August 09, 2017 @02:23PM (#14972133)
You think you won the argument but all youve done is created 10 more another trump supporters in silicon valley no less.
Re:Google Fires Employee Behind Controversial Diversity Memo on Tuesday August 08, 2017 @03:49PM (#14961803)
Its because they have less options for financial security in their family.

If you dont believe me ask them yourself, but make a clear distinction between immigrant and first gen.

I agree, especially seeing how google interfered in the syrian war, and worked with prism to spy on europeans.
Re:Some Google managers maintain personal blacklists on Tuesday August 08, 2017 @09:23AM (#14957535)
Personal blacklists are a great way to get your company sued.
Re:California is ready to recognize a third gender on Wednesday May 31, 2017 @11:40AM (#14453347)
It is important for birth rates. So much of government borrows from the future, its why you hear so much commotion about falling birth rates and immigration. The system needs more bodies to grind.
Re:Trump 'poised to quit Paris climate deal' on Wednesday May 31, 2017 @11:34AM (#14453304)
Im seeing the liberal bubble here.

Here is what trump supporters think(not a trump supporter).

Its only ever been a bankster fraud pushed by goldman sachs

These are the core tenents of the Paris Climate Agreement:

(a) Holding the increase in the global average temperature to well below 2 °C above pre-industrial levels and to pursue efforts to limit the temperature increase to 1.5 °C above pre-industrial levels, recognizing that this would significantly reduce the risks and impacts of climate change;

(b) Increasing the ability to adapt to the adverse impacts of climate change and foster climate resilience and low greenhouse gas emissions development, in a manner that does not threaten food production;

(c) Making finance flows consistent with a pathway towards low greenhouse gas emissions and climate-resilient development.

Translation for the gullible: give us money. for vague stuff. and vague goals. and vague methods that cant accomplish goals because we never want the tax gravy train to end. Nor that even have actual metrics for success so we never have to stop taxing everyone.

plus trust china when they tell you they will also "do stuff" too. even though they lie their ass off about everything

Protip: china pollutes more than DOUBLE the usa. more than usa and europe combined. and while our emissions have declined over the last decade, theirs have exploded

Re:The growth of the European startup scene on Monday May 29, 2017 @10:18AM (#14439191)
I hope not. The pay of developers is horrible compared to silicon valley.
Re:Science Isn’t Broken (2015) on Wednesday May 24, 2017 @08:07PM (#14414408)
Science a huge pr problem, one so bad you might as well say science is broken.

The average person is losing faith in science because of high profile failures, and the distrust is only increasing.

I fear Nasim Talib is right.
