Re:Spot Bitcoin ETF receives official approval from the SEC on Wednesday January 10, 2024 @05:04PM (#38943973)
> Not that I would ever buy a BTC ETF since it precisely negates what I believe Bitcoin to be useful for, but if I had to, I'd pick the one that would convert the forked coins back to BTC immediately after the fork.

Would it actually be clear which fork is the winning one?

Re:Spot Bitcoin ETF receives official approval from the SEC on Wednesday January 10, 2024 @04:45PM (#38943686)
and what would happen during/after a fork?
They accept payments in a USD/EUR or other FIAT pegged token, such as USDC, USDT, EURe, etc.
Monerium/EURe fully complies with EU e-money regulations. There's lots of similar products coming out in EU land, and more and more globally (e.g. euroe.com)

Most regulations apply to financial institutions, if your blockchain is provably decentralized (as in, nobody can rug/fraud you from your money), then a lot of regulations do not apply.

I do read them. It’s the easiest way to stand out for candidates. A paragraph about what interests u in this role usually is enough.

Re:Ask HN: How would you raise $600k for a boring software co? on Friday September 01, 2023 @12:11AM (#37346707)
You’ll probably spend more time pitching and entertaining investors then just coding the mvp and start selling.
Re:PayPal Launches U.S. Dollar Stablecoin on Tuesday August 08, 2023 @01:59AM (#37045052)

i'm non-US and somehow managed to sign up for their dashboard only. There's a sign up button on the login screen that leads you to here: https://www.wellnessfx.com/registration/new
Wellnessfx.com is ok and free.
Same here. Managed to wean off twitter. No longer feeling the urge or need to check it.

12 centuries should be plenty of time for a simple upgrade to improve the UX of a language.

Not gonna work. Your loaned tokens are traceable back to your tainted bitcoins (in this case wrapped btc on ethereum).
Re:FTX Yikes on Friday November 11, 2022 @06:46AM (#33559545)
I had to buy a flight urgently. But my credit/debit cards had to low of a balance. Topping ul via bank transfer would have taken 4 days over the weekend. Used a crypto backed card, transferrred tokens, and 30min later booked my flight.

Generate new keys then transfer.
Wrong conclusion. The hacks never targeted the underlying platforms and security. It was always the bugs on the smart contract level. The same way you can't blame Java/Ruby/Python being insecure because of SQL injection attacks.
Bitcoin. Ethereum. Etc.

They don't go down if you turn off your Raspberry Pi.

I also can be 99.9999% sure that they run correctly and Ethereum itself is pretty unhackable, as proven by the multi-billion bug-bounties.

The smart contracts running on Ethereum are open source, unlike your PHP script, can be audited, and if marked immutable, i'm sure no malicious person/business can hack or change it, and if they do it has an auditable backlog.

Re:Stripe has decided to nuke my entire business on Thursday September 15, 2022 @08:53PM (#32860587)
They're just a tech solution orchestrating (recurring) payments to your payment processors. So they don't have to do the same checks as processors. So they are only a technical single point of failure.
Based on my 25years experience with that line of work, this knowledge is not required at all and won't make you write better code. Some coworkers will question your competence, which is a disadvantage.

Hiring wise, if you've spent a few years programming without ever learning about "that bits&bytes thing", an employer is tempted to doubt your education, level of curiosity and/or general interest in your field.

Nice. Had this idea and a prototype ready, 3 years ago. never got around to finalize it. Let me know how i can contact you and i can share some of my ideas, etc.
More positively framed: this is essentially charging for value added, not time spent. A contractor who saved/made the company a lot of $$$ can overcharge, knowing that his rate pales in comparison with savings/profits he made, so no one cares. However if he does not deliver enough value add, that sort of behaviour won't fly and he most likely will under-charge to avoid embarrassment.
Agree. Only fine men like George Soros and companies willing to pay enough to lawyers should be able to do so.

Also open source software should be banned, as everyone can search for security exploits. I see it the same with flash loans, etc. It forces DeFi protocols to safeguard against all attack vectors, resulting in a much more secure environment.
