Re:Astra can read and write weights to improve Qwen on Monday November 02, 2026 @04:19PM (#50343914)
Astra and Opus also say it will take 6 weeks for a feature they can complete in 10 minutes
Re:Switzerland proposes banning profiling-based ads to minors on Wednesday October 14, 2026 @09:58AM (#50087895)
Such a common sense law. It's crazy to me that we have so many youth protections in place but only in the last year or two governments have started to pay attention to this
Re:Amazon pushes up prices across the Internet on Wednesday October 14, 2026 @08:08AM (#50086395)
Stopped using Amazon a while ago because I want to support smaller (and less controversial) businesses. But recently I went back there to look for a phone protector as for some reason that's the only time Amazon has been cheaper for something.

I was amazed at how janky the app experience was having been away for a couple of years. It felt a really dated and ad-bloated experience. Considering Amazon pioneered so many advances in e-commerce, I was surprised I don't miss it at all.

>> This is the first near-frontier model we've caught in infinite reasoning loops in a long time

This seems to be such a Google thing. Anyone who has used Gemini for long enough has encountered these 'She loves me, She loves me not' spam loops

Re:Redesigning Source Control at Anthropic on Wednesday October 14, 2026 @06:13AM (#50085164)
That's why they are doing so many commits. 3,000 commits a day, then 27,000 to undo all the senseless decisions Claude made.
Re:Claude Haiku 5.5 on Wednesday October 07, 2026 @02:34PM (#49996956)
They are targeting businesses/API use for fast decision making and agent integration. Plus they now need to be competitive with Jev-type models in that space.
Re:OpenAI agent hacked Australian government website, PM says on Thursday September 24, 2026 @07:15AM (#49829020)
If a bull escapes a field and causes damage in the village, the farmer pays for the damages and is liable. It's been like that for hundreds of years and I don't see how this is any different?
Re:Claude Opus 5.5 on Tuesday September 22, 2026 @12:50PM (#49804295)
I believe Opus 5 isn't meant to be spoken to by humans. It's great at executing but I reckon it's intended to be spoken to by other models such as Fable. I use Fable as the orchestrator, only speak with Fable, and all implementation, recon, design etc happens with Opus 5, with Fable reviewing (and translating).
Re:Can we stop with the uptime percentages? on Wednesday September 16, 2026 @12:18PM (#49729299)
Until there is an industry wide definition of outage, degraded performance, etc then it's all moot
It's amazing how quickly Fable went from 'Game-changing model that needs to be banned' to 'Yeah it's alright, but OpenAI is also just as good and there are a couple of good open weight alternatives that are equivalent for almost everything'

The hype cycles are shortening, perhaps we really are reaching some kind of plateau this time (famous last words)

Re:Codex is wearing out our devices on Monday July 20, 2026 @10:34AM (#48979465)
Interesting, thanks, had no idea
Re:Codex is wearing out our devices on Monday July 20, 2026 @10:28AM (#48979367)
Does writing to an SSD often really 'wear out' the device?
Yeah I asked Nano Banana to make a render of our company office and was scarily accurate
Rookie error
They have to pay for that AI Capex buildout somehow
Paywall, but exclusive from the FT:

Kimi K3 launching in the coming days

Expected to exceed Opus 4.8 in capability

Moonshot raising new funds valuing company above 30bn

Re:Codex Micro on Wednesday July 15, 2026 @12:41PM (#48923520)
Oh...well I am a Silly Bean!
If you use the offline-only models (I use the Nvidia one and it's great) and put it in offline mode it is. I've used it for 6 months and haven't paid anything
My name in Claude is Silly Bean. I did it at first because it made me chuckle every time I opened Claude and it said 'Back again, Silly Bean?'

But turns out I was playing 4D cybersecurity chess

Thanks will check it out, hadn't heard of it
I use Spokenly, offline-only mode with the Nvidia model. All local, totally free. Highly recommend
Re:GLM 5.2 and the coming AI margin collapse on Tuesday July 07, 2026 @05:34AM (#48815500)
Interesting, so point 2 means that a lot of the hardware being installed now won't be able to run the frontier models of 2029? How does that change the demand for compute/models in the future, I can imagine that even if OpenAI/Anthropic have a moat in 2029 there will be so much older hardware and such a hangover from that investment boom that there will be very little installed capacity that can run it
Re:Claude Code Is Steganographically Marking Requests on Tuesday June 30, 2026 @12:57PM (#48735612)
That's a lot of effort when they could just play a short video saying 'You wouldn't steal a car' instead
Opencode Go subscription ($5 to try for one month) or Neuralwatt are what I use. Both through opensource Opencode harness (like Claude code)
Re:Claude Fable 5: mid-tier results on coding tasks on Friday June 12, 2026 @04:54AM (#48501611)
It's just much more thorough and spins up a lot of subagents to basically do a lot more E2E testing. Not necessarily smarter, imo you could get the same result with a lesser model by procedurally prompting, but a lot more compute and orchestration.
Re:Claude Fable 5: mid-tier results on coding tasks on Friday June 12, 2026 @04:50AM (#48501580)
Fable feels like a slightly more advanced 4.5/4.6 (less verbose than 4.7 and 4.8) with more adversial work checking. And a lot more compute to be more thorough from the first prompt. I feel it would be possible to get pretty much the same results with 4.6 with enough back and forth iterations. It kind of makes sense to me that this is the 'magic' behind Mythos and its cyber capabilities too. Just a massive iterative loop and really going into a lot more detail on edge cases.
Re:Claude Fable is relentlessly proactive on Friday June 12, 2026 @03:51AM (#48501134)
It feels to me like Fable is just a slightly more advanced Opus 4.8 (or 4.6?) but with this 'adversarial' self-challenging/checking of work and a more compute to really hunt down edge cases or to spin up many sub agents using lesser models. That's what makes it feel like a big jump, but I think the results wouldn't be so different if you manually challenged 4.6 with enough iterations of logs, screenshots, and follow up questions.
Re:.de TLD offline due to DNSSEC? on Tuesday May 05, 2026 @06:10PM (#48029376)
Even when every site in the world’s 3rd biggest economy goes down it’s still just a ‘Partial’ service disruption :D
Re:LinkedIn uses 2.4 GB RAM across two tabs on Sunday March 29, 2026 @08:41AM (#47562704)
It's a social network that became socially acceptable to browse at work. It has all the negative attributes associated with a social network and none of the upsides (apart from the occasional recruiter message).
