Re:Dust: Pretraining Transformers Without Backpropagation on Monday October 05, 2026 @06:27PM (#49971693)
Even though this is way more expensive than backprop, could a hybrid approach where you fine tune an existing checkpoint that's been backpropped unlock further gains? It would be cool to apply this to different stages and see if that affects the learning trajectory

Linux is a huge project and is not really comparable to Debian
These are effective targets for hybrid warfare for that very reason, plausible deniability
Children do not want child locked devices and they will find alternatives

They should automate reading hacker news comments and generating PRs to address them
Re:Who Watches the Waymos? I do [video] on Wednesday December 24, 2025 @10:27PM (#46381815)
Looks like it's GAIA by Marco Cochrane, I remember seeing it out in the desert. It looks like it might not be related to Waymo and just on the adjacent property
The success of Facebook basically proves that public brand perception does not matter at all
Re:Claude Advanced Tool Use on Monday November 24, 2025 @07:24PM (#46041001)
Unfortunate that they chose python instead of bash as the wrapper. Bash would have wider interoperability across languages and workflows that don't touch python. It would also expose more performant tools.
Re:Apple Mini Apps Partner Program on Thursday November 13, 2025 @09:11PM (#45923077)
Forcing iPad support seems like tying. I wonder if this will finally get Instagram to release an iPad app.
Re:Apple is crossing a Steve Jobs red line on Friday November 07, 2025 @05:21PM (#45851859)
They don't put MacOS on iPad because they want MacOS to slowly die and make App Store the only way to install software. This has nothing to do with cannibalizing Mac.
Re:New updates and more access to Google Earth AI on Thursday October 23, 2025 @03:49PM (#45686174)
I have found that using LLMs to generate queries for Overpass (Open street map query language) works really well. Great alternative if you don't care to deal with corporate nonsense.
Re:Introducing Galaxy XR, the first Android XR headset on Wednesday October 22, 2025 @01:52PM (#45672721)
The only thing people really do for extended periods of time in these headsets is play gorilla tag, highly skewed towards young kids.
Re:Meta Ray-Ban Display on Wednesday September 17, 2025 @11:43PM (#45285093)
Perhaps or maybe they will require them?
The MPAA's argument against this bill is a complete joke:

>MPA urged state lawmakers to reject Wicks’ bill this week in a letter, obtained by POLITICO, claiming device-based age checks may sow confusion; for example, if parents and kids had separate Netflix profiles under one account that’s logged in on multiple devices.

To the point where I'm asking if someone needs some token opposition to frame this obvious bill a political win?

Re:iPhone Air on Wednesday September 10, 2025 @12:53AM (#45193438)
can they just make it flat? seriously
I think you missed the part that this was in Europe, no need to worry about startups

Liquid glass design paradigm only works on reprojected displays. Additive displays can't replicate the distortions along the edges of the elements for both optical focus reasons and because you can see through the element.
Re:Progressive JSON on Saturday May 31, 2025 @09:21PM (#44148025)
We encountered this problem when converting audio only LLM applications to visual + audio. The visuals would increase latency by a lot since they need to be parsed completely before displaying, whereas you can just play audio token by token and wait for the LLM to generate the next one while audio is playing.

Well, they clearly have no idea what they’re talking about. Next!

Lower latency, which can be useful for live translation or keyboard autocomplete
Re:Interview Gone Wrong on Sunday November 03, 2024 @10:01PM (#42038027)
This is a tangent, but checking if all the elements in the diagonal position are the same is not sufficient. You also need to check that any of the elements are not '-'.
Re:How do layer 2s differ from execution sharding? on Sunday May 26, 2024 @12:53AM (#40479854)
As far as I’m aware, there’s no way of validating something without observing it. If that’s true, then you will have to trade the ability to validate the entire chain in order to scale on chain, at which point, who cares what’s on chain vs off?
Re:On Microsoft, the U.S. Government Must Embrace the Stick on Saturday March 23, 2024 @05:56PM (#39803359)
You could totally put together a corporate financial statement if your life depended on it.
Ok now, I have a few separate colored lights pointing at the lamp. What color is the lamp? How about when it’s on?
