The score is a value stored in the Windows registry, the poster probably re-created (or imported from a previous export) the registry entry upon each Windows installation.

Re:Show HN: TitleArt – Make text like it's 1997 on Sunday October 25, 2026 @11:55PM (#50238902)
Brought back many memories. There were also some fonts that added 'shimmer' and 'sparkle' text. You didn't run up a Win98 VM and install the old Word? Great job at making it all by screenshots and eye.
I will check the video later, have you looked into decision models such as jev to improve performance?
Any chance it could include Amazon, eBay from Australian region + AliExpress ? Great website. Also is source available?
That's disappointing to hear, I'd love to get a 12-13" eink to replace an iPad that was used primarily for reading.
Re:Gemini 4 Argon on Tuesday October 13, 2026 @08:38PM (#50080947)
Can you share your modifications?
Re:Ask HN: Do you still own a printer? on Tuesday October 06, 2026 @08:00PM (#49985971)
Yes, I've always had a printer (a Brother laser MFP) and I get cheap toner from eBay. My wife can print from her phone, though I had to install an AirPrint/CUPS driver on a Linux box to get it working.

My kid is constantly asking me to print out colouring-in pictures that she has us create using AI or find online (princesses, mermaids, dolphins, etc.)

There are also the occasional documents that need signatures or need to be seen by others. I might print out checklists or useful information to put in the car. I even have a list of PS3 games, and whether they support co-op, that sits in my TV cabinet so I can check it when friends come over before starting up a game.

When printing is so accessible, you tend to do it much more often.

Re:No Man's Sky Cosmos on Wednesday September 09, 2026 @07:48PM (#49636274)
I suspect it does apply to Minecraft too, however Minecraft also benefits from its multiplayer communities in modding scene.
Why as their only OS? I assume many people connect their old PC to their TV and install a bunch of emulators. I suppose Linux could be an alternate solution for those machines.
Re:Dropbox CEO Drew Houston to step down on Tuesday May 26, 2026 @06:39PM (#48286982)
> all the big players have their own deeply integrated solutions

This is exactly why I use Dropbox. I use a single Dropbox account for my family. It's setup with photo sync on our phones so we can automatically share photos together. It's also setup on the printer/scanner so scanned documents are accessible to everyone. We keep documents in it that we can all access when needed. We also access the data through our file browser on our computers.

I feel my use case is simple but it's impossible to do this with the big players due to integration.

Can anyone recommend me a notepad++ like app for Linux?
Re:I won a championship that doesn't exist on Tuesday April 28, 2026 @07:08PM (#47942089)
I made a post on Reddit asking for help with a TV, I had made up some (likley incorrect) technical assumptions about the issue. Several years later I asked the LLM about the TV, it used my own post as a citation to tell me what was wrong with it.

I am paranoid that this is happening every time I ask a LLM for a product recommendation or a shop recommendation. In the same way as SEO, anyone wanting to sell or convince needs to do as much as they can to influence the LLM.

Re:DeepSeek v4 on Friday April 24, 2026 @01:27AM (#47885939)
Try interacting with it through the website, it will give an error and some explanation on the issue. I had to relax my guardrail settings.
Re:Qwen3.6-35B-A3B: Agentic Coding Power, Now Open to All on Thursday April 16, 2026 @07:17PM (#47800761)
Can this run on a PC with 16GB graphics card or a 24GB Macbook Pro? I'm not familiar with how Mixture-of-Experts models differ from standard models.
Re:WiiFin – Jellyfin Client for Nintendo Wii on Monday April 13, 2026 @11:28PM (#47760907)
If you're using Dolphin, it may be worth testing Better-Wii-Menu-DE (https://github.com/Gavin-S-Dev/Better-Wii-Menu-DE).

You could probably have your Wii computer boot directly into Jellyfin using a startup shortcut with 'dolphin-emu -e WiiFin.dol', then switch out of the app to play Wii games using the better menu app.

Then you can your Wiimote for both media + gaming with out needing a keyboard / mouse.

https://obsidian.md/help/import/onenote

I had issues with images coming across not being correctly linked. Might be working better now.

Re:An Introduction to Obsidian on Monday April 13, 2026 @10:56PM (#47760704)
You can also use Dropbox.
Re:An Introduction to Obsidian on Monday April 13, 2026 @10:53PM (#47760693)
You can ctrl click the little book icon in the top right to show both modes side by side.
Re:Obsidian Sync now has a headless client on Saturday February 28, 2026 @11:54PM (#47203847)
Joplin has great sync support for a number of providers, Dropbox, Onedrive, Nextcloud, S3 etc, Obsidian supports none of these on iOS so I cant sync all my devices without having all my notes go to Obsidian servers and paying the fee.
Re:SoundCloud Data Breach Now on HaveIBeenPwned on Tuesday January 27, 2026 @08:12PM (#46789703)
Plus, the "Recommended Actions" only show me two sponsored products (1Password and Truyu) leaving me confused in what I'm supposed to do now.

Re:Unreal Tournament 2004 is back on Friday December 05, 2025 @12:55AM (#46157220)
There was also the opera mod which was pretty cool.
Re:Glasses-free 3D using webcam head tracking on Thursday October 23, 2025 @03:40AM (#45679260)
Thanks for posting, I was sure I recalled something like this form a long time ago. I also build my self a FreeTrack headset (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FreeTrack) around this same time to play the Arma / Operating Flashpoint games using IR LED's attached to a hat that my webcam would track.
Re:My Deus Ex lipsyncing fix mod on Friday September 26, 2025 @12:47AM (#45382752)
Take a look into Prey (2017) too.
Re:FFmpeg 8.0 adds Whisper support on Wednesday August 13, 2025 @07:35AM (#44887201)
Yep, whisper can do that. You can also try whisperx (https://github.com/m-bain/whisperX) for a possibly better experience with aligning of subtitles to spoken words.
Re:Windows XP Professional on Thursday August 07, 2025 @07:18PM (#44831584)
Also the Windows boot loading bar was way too smooth.
Re:I designed my own fast game streaming video codec on Monday July 28, 2025 @07:30PM (#44717085)
Maybe even one day we reach point where the game can run locally on the end users' machine.
Try the Brave browser for YouTube. I used Jellyfin for my media library and that seemed to work fine for tv and movies.

I just got a Macbook and haven't touched my iPad Pro since, I would think I could make a change faster on a Macbook then iPad if they were both in my bag. Although I do miss the cellular data that the iPad has.

Wishing there was a capable Lightroom alternative.
