I'm with you. I do use it for tedious tasks, but I'll never be one of those people who stops looking at code.

That's absurd. Google Search used to work. Now it doesn't.

Sam Altman is going to put you all on a list. So much precious RAM wasted.

It's wild to see the cultists cheer for this right now while they're plunging themselves further into debt.
Re:US boy names that became girl names and vice versa

My sisters both have last-name first names that are commonly used for both genders, and one of those sisters has 3 kids, all with last-name first names. It's weird, but it beats everyone having a biblical name.

That same government turned EVs into a cultural issue, so I doubt that would happen.
Re:Ask HN: Are you tired too in this AI era?

Totally. I get value from coding tools, but I don't understand why anyone would be happy that they don't even have to look at code anymore.

> And everyone forgets Geordi was tortured and mind-controlled by the Romulans. In anything close to reality he'd never be allowed on a starship again
You could say that about so many characters. Capitan Pike lived an entire lifetime in his head, and then just woke up as a 50 year old Capitan again, and went back to work.
Chief O'brian went to a brutal prison for 20 years, in his head of course, but it was real to him.
Both of them would be completely different people after these experiences.

Because it turns this situation from "okay well, you're fired", to "okay, we don't want any trouble".

Why should they? What's a good reason why laws shouldn't apply to everyone?
Re:Kentucky man becomes the first humanist granted religious exemption...
on Wednesday October 28, 2026 @03:24PM (#50279451)
This is exactly where I'm at. I also avoid using AI for the more creative parts of programming too, while finding utility in it for the more tedious parts.
Re:Kentucky man becomes the first humanist granted religious exemption...
on Wednesday October 28, 2026 @03:23PM (#50279418)
I'm definitely resentful that I have to use AI to stay relevant, and wish it never came into existence, but religious exemptions shouldn't exist. If a law or rule isn't important enough for everyone to follow, it shouldn't be a rule or law.
Re:Ask HN: Can we do something about this impending AI dystopia
on Tuesday October 27, 2026 @09:13PM (#50268157)
I'm doing my very best to not let my skills atrophy. I have gotten a lot of benefit from AI in certain cases. I co-own a SaaS with a TON of tech debt, and AI has been helpful for reducing some of the tedium of migrating through 3 Django versions, but I will never be one of those people who brags about "not opening an IDE in 6 months" like I recently saw on this board.
Re:Hey, Y Combinator - What will happen to humans?

It's going to be great. Ai will take over the tedious tasks that we have to do every day at work, opening us up to the ability to pursue interests that are meaningful for us as we progress into a post-scarcity society.
Just kidding, we get trillionaires instead because people who are just scraping by can't seem to let go of Capitalism.

If that were true, he wouldn't have had a second term. Americans are finally experiencing his fuckery first hand with fuel prices, which is why he is going to lose. The lies weren't much of a concern. Fox News is still I believe the biggest cable channel in the country.

Was I wrong in assuming that "Latinx" was only intended for written language? Because it's not pronounceable in any way that makes sense.
