I have this as an alias in my .zshrc!! Very handy
Not sure what schemes are that good (would be interested to see). My company has one, but I ended up buying a used ICE because it worked out to cost about the same as leasing the equivalent EV model of that car. But that might have been the case for the specific car I was looking at (small Volvo SUV).
Re:John Ternus to become Apple CEO on Monday April 20, 2026 @05:51PM (#47841417)
My experience is similar. Great hardware. Software is good until there is something I want to do that isn't very obvious, then it's either a hassle or not possible.

My favourite example being looking for the volume mixer, and after looking online the top advice seemed to be to pay for a 3rd party application for that... Wtf?

I've got some reflecting to do because the first thing I did after reading the headline, before even clicking to the actual post, is look for ai comments.

I miss pre 2010 internet. As soon as the advice animal memes started appearing on Facebook it was a quick decline.

This is the most convincing argument for the house of lords/monarchy that I've ever heard. Going to be thinking about this for a while, thanks.
Either this is AI written or the author has an interesting sense of humor.

I think people are missing the joke here (notice the italicised 'are').
Re:2026 will be my year of the Linux desktop on Friday January 02, 2026 @08:48PM (#46471934)
Funnily enough today windows pissed me off with a random breaking bug (no login screen yay) so now only have Ubuntu installed. Only one application I use that's windows only anyways and can use a VM for that, so sayonara...

This reads like a middle schooler trying to hit a word count.

I'd prefer to simply ask chatgpt "suggest different solutions (outline only, no code) for ..."

Re:UK Petition: Do not introduce Digital ID cards on Sunday September 28, 2025 @09:40PM (#45409666)
What are you on about? It's financial providers deciding whether you are or aren't risky for them to work with, based on your financial decisions.

Not repaying loans and using credit cards to get cash -> you're probably bad with money -> lenders are unlikely to get their money back from you.

Re:UK Petition: Do not introduce Digital ID cards on Sunday September 28, 2025 @09:35PM (#45409650)
Swedish ID system seems pretty great. Never had any of my family there complain about it, and it just seems to make a lot of life easier.

The issue I see with the UK's plan is it that so far everything the government is talking about is how it will stop illegal working, and that just seems like a reaction to reform's recent rise in polls. That by itself seems like a waste, because people working cash in hand surely won't be bothered by this new requirement.

I think it should go further so it actually becomes useful. Things like having people's benefit status accessible at pharmacies to prevent people simply saying "I don't pay for my prescription" (still blows my mind this is a thing).

What has the UK done to make you think it is becoming one of the most authoritarian advanced economies?

Re:How Well Does the Money Laundering Control System Work? on Thursday August 21, 2025 @11:44AM (#44974206)
"just be rich bro"
Celebrities, politicians and influencers are a constant reminder that people think others are far more intelligent than they actually are.
Be worried then because that is the reality of the vast vast vast vast vast vast vast majority of research. At this point academia is a massive lumbering beast that exists and must be fed because it's become a big part of the economy. Most research being produced isn't really research, just people keeping busy.
Re:Coventry Very Light Rail on Sunday June 08, 2025 @02:05PM (#44218522)
Not really related, but leaving Coventry has probably been one of the best decisions I've made in my life. This makes sense though, one of the best things about the city is the good transport links for getting out of it.
3 star hotels seems out of place with the rest of the list.

Poor judgement and lack of empathy could be something worth getting looked into for real.

Re:Launch HN: Nomi (YC X25) – Cursor for Sales on Monday May 26, 2025 @01:18PM (#44099437)
I've got reservations about how customers would feel after googling what the ai that was in the call is meant for. But I'm not in that position (and probably never will be) so maybe this mindset an issue.

I would however think about changing the name after searching "nomi ai" lmao

Maybe I'm being naive, but it feels like if this is a problem for people they should be looking at how they write their code, not reaching for a library.
Re:'The DOJ's Assault on Apple Will Harm Consumers' on Saturday July 20, 2024 @06:03AM (#41015350)
After years of lurking I decided to make an account so I could comment on this thread.

Lol having 'pro-competition' and Apple in the same sentence is hilarious. Hope the money helps the author sleep at night.
