Re:Sam Altman and husband fund startup to edit babies' genes on Friday November 14, 2025 @11:18AM (#45928341)
Yeah I’d be editing my child’s genes if I looked like inhuman freak too.
Mostly just because programming will be devalued.

Plumbing won’t pay well either once everyone and their mother floods the fields. Physically work like that lacks some of the aspects that kept software high paying for so long.

In the future, there will be work, but it won’t pay anything, because the pool of competition will be massive with so much unemployment.

Those who have true talent (high IQ) may be allowed some social mobility, as it’s better to capture that than to let it rot amongst the unwashed masses, but for the rest, life and status will be defined and immutable.

Try leaving the basement.

> I've read that his record-shattering deal had the stockholders up on their feet dancing, chanting his name, and applauding.

Ew, I don’t care who it is, if you grovel like that, you’re lower than a dog.

> They want you depending on megacorporations or, even better, the government.

“They” in this case, want megacorporations and government to be the same thing.

Is he 16? I’m not sure how we’re considering people like this functioning adults with such developmental issues.

Baker act these people.

Let’s just replace the democratic part then. Efficiency is king, after all.

lol new country in the Balkans? I’d have love to see the crypto-bro genocide that follows.
> Six figure hourly-wage "salaries", as long as you put in the 20 hours overtime every week. He also didn't mention the swing shift going from 2 weeks on 3rd, 2 weeks on 2nd, 2 weeks on 1st, and repeat.

My understanding is that this is how the similar “high pay” but perpetually understaffed field of nursing is.

> You're better off getting a college education in that time. Or you'll be dealing with the same engine for the next 30 years. No future. No advancement, No life.

Some years ago, I heard about a big shortage of airplane mechanics, and lived near a small, but moderately busy commercial airport.

I looked into the training programs for that sort of things and it would have been cheaper for me to just go get an aerospace engineering degree from a state school and design the damn planes.

There’s a lot of problems that can be easily solved with authoritarianism.

That’s why you’re seeing such a trend all across.

So do fatties. I don’t want fatties on the bus, but I don’t get what I want :(

Re:There's Just No Reason to Deal with Young Employees on Thursday November 13, 2025 @02:10PM (#45919150)
Some years back, every other day there was a post on HN or what not where every 30 something failed millennial was talking about how they did some bootcamp so they could get their high comp package for a few years before being unceremoniously laid off, because as it turns out, you don’t really need that many CRUD monkeys, no matter what software is doing to the world.

I suspect in a decade or so we’ll see something similar

Re:Think in Math. Write in Code on Thursday November 13, 2025 @02:02PM (#45919059)
bakers and mechanics have not had their ego stroked by being overpaid for a decade.
> Drugs have killed more Americans in recent years than did all of our 20th century military actions. We are right to use military forc

But will you kill the kikes that pushed that shit for decades?
