The ICC would be unconstitutional in the United States.

"Democracy is dead" because I disagree with the policy preferences of the majority of voters.
Re:Nobel Peace Prize for 2026 to Navanethem "NAVI" Pillay on Friday October 09, 2026 @08:17AM (#50019415)
This isn't true, the US considers prosecution by the ICC as an act of war.
For-profit is the delivery system, which should save taxpayer money. Systems where the institutions are directly administered by taxpayer funds and their attendant public employee unions also have political/financial incentives.
Sesame Street is doing just fine and the people making billions off the licensing will have to make do without federal taxpayer subsidy.
Congress voted to stop federal funding of the CPB, it had nothing to do with DOGE.

In a free society, we don't need state-run media.

Actually it is PBS that bears responsibility here. Very likely the decision by PBS to hire OSS was corrupt (OSS are just a reseller of Iron Mountain) and they made no other provision to backup the files a second way, like AWS Glacier.
You can't be bitter because Europe squandered technological and capital market parity with the US in just 20 years.
Re:Challenging the Narrative of European Decline on Thursday June 18, 2026 @08:13AM (#48584162)
Krugman so badly wants this to be true. But handwaving away massive difference in IT innovation and in practical data like housing size and vastly greater American consumption does not make it true. Just 20% of European homes even have air conditioning. European industrial energy costs are more than 2x the U.S. Don't ignore the data. Europe is behind and falling behind at an ever-faster clip. And the strategic issues of continued vast unskilled migration into Europe and the need to re-arm in a post-NATO world are further economic burdens that will tip most of Europe into middle-income status.

Piketty is just a marxist flailing around, backfilling data to fit his belief that communism is the solution for every problem. He's been spectacularly wrong in his predictions so far, for example he said Milei would be "devastating" for Argentina and the opposite is the case.
Re:Introducing Waymo Premier, an elevated rider experience on Thursday June 11, 2026 @01:09PM (#48493126)
This is the real issue:

"Uber received over 400,000 sexual assault and misconduct reports between 2017 and 2022"

https://www.cnbc.com/2026/02/06/uber-liable-pay-8-5-million-...

Also interesting is that the US didn't need the base and was able to operate command and control from South Carolina.
In the UK the establishment is generally unsettled by the display of the English flag.

Mississippi is one of the recent education success stories though.
The change was in fact designed to make the scores jump. The purpose is compressing the top scores to allow universities to be more subjective and still have high averages
Re:EFF is leaving X on Thursday April 09, 2026 @02:41PM (#47707841)
Part of the replacement is declaring white Americans don't have a culture. Would you say the same about black Americans?
Re:EFF is leaving X on Thursday April 09, 2026 @02:36PM (#47707747)
Clearly EFF is now more interested in virtue signaling than the privacy mission.
Re:NASA Artemis II moon mission live launch broadcast on Thursday April 02, 2026 @10:17AM (#47614846)
The center has already shifted to Musk, SpaceX is 83% of global lift capacity. Artemis is flying an obsolete rocket at insane cost, and higher risk.
Maybe more people should listen to Musk's political message. The Biden Administration was playing nasty games, blocking progress on both SpaceX and AI generally.
No the downvote is from smearing an individual for the political activities of his grandfather.
Re:1B identity records exposed in ID verification data leak on Thursday March 12, 2026 @08:18AM (#47349546)
While this leak may or may not have happened, for this type of exposure there should be criminal liability for developers and executives. Criminal negligence and prison time.
Re:Pentagon Formally Labels Anthropic Supply-Chain Risk on Thursday March 05, 2026 @03:28PM (#47266852)
either you allow a democratically elected government to do everything they want that is legal, or you insert private corporate decision-making into every government decision which is untenable
Re:We Will Not Be Divided on Saturday February 28, 2026 @12:10PM (#47197700)
Your take is a call for civil war. You're obviously wrong about "treason" since even larger majorities voted for Trump in 2024.
It's almost like the democratically elected government gets to decide the name, not Google!
Don't deadname the Gulf!

He also elected the guy who did a 180 on AI regulations and stopped FAA harassment of SpaceX.
Re:Recoverable and Irrecoverable Decisions on Friday February 13, 2026 @03:18PM (#47007292)
A big driver in increasing entrepreneurs in the US has been DEI and H1-B driven racism against white men. For example in 2021 only 6% of all the people hired by major US companies were white. An entire generation was locked out of traditional corporate career paths, and turned to startups and crypto.

https://cbsaustin.com/news/nation-world/major-us-companies-g...

Plenty of Americans are ready and able to do the work if the conditions and wages are at the market rate. We're addicted to abusing the illegal immigrant underclass. Returning undocumented people to their homes is the moral issue of our time; Trump is ending a system of neo-slavery.
Re:EU launches government satcom program in sovereignty push on Monday February 02, 2026 @12:36PM (#46858724)
Import substitution has failed consistently as an economic strategy.
Re:Is It Time for a Nordic Nuke? on Monday January 26, 2026 @05:50PM (#46772771)
You are getting at the major issue that the article completely misses. The Nordic countries are in demographic collapse and replacement by non-Nordic immigrants. In the next 50 years (not 200) the election of an authoritarian govt or a full civil war is highly likely.
