Effort is still (and probably will always be) the hardest thing to replace.

Any time someone says AI can do this, and do that, and blah blah. I say ok, take the AI and go do that.. the barrier to entry is so low you should be able to do whatever you want. And they say, oh, no, I don't want to do that (or can't, or whatever). But it should be able to be done.. And I just nod, and sip my drink, and ...

.. and I'd like to point out these are seasoned professionals that I've seen put in effort into other things in their careers that have the capacity to literally do whatever is they want to do, especially now.. and they choose not to do so, at least not without someone guaranteeing them a paycheck or telling them they have to do it to survive.

probably because they're using tailwind and indigo is the default for a lot of examples.
same: google-chrome --headless --disable-gpu --no-pdf-header-footer --hide-scrollbars --print-to-pdf-margins="0,0,0,0" --print-to-pdf --window-size=1280,720 https://example.com

ended up using headless chrome specifically to make sure javascript things rendered properly

not quite the same scale area wise, but interesting nonetheless https://www.archdaily.com/973183/the-building-that-moved-how...

As for your actual question, I'm pretty sure we (US, Europe, humans in general) could do quite a bit more than we do now if we had a reason to do so. (or were 100% sure about the results)

not sure i buy this is a trend yet, the article talks about 3 cases:

1 - vehicle wasn't involved and was about to be towed for footage as the article implies (owner came by and gave them footage during tow process)

2 - tesla was towed along with 2 other vehicles from a shootout in the parking lot (probably the cars were shot or had other evidence on them)

3 - the crime happened inside the tesla (was going to be towed regardless)

Estimates suggest that total solar eclipses could cease to occur in about 600 million years from now, give or take, depending on the precise nature of lunar recession and changes in Earth's rotation. This timeframe is long enough that many other changes on Earth and in the solar system will also occur, making the cessation of total solar eclipses just one of many transformations.
When at a 4 way stop, the order is who arrived at the stop first (until there are none remaining). If two or more vehicles arrive at the same time, the vehicle on the right should go first.

So when you get to the stop, just look at everyone there and know that when the last one there is gone it's your turn.

Yes, agreed. I used them earlier and the examples on the page use alpine, but the "copy code" doesn't have it. It's actually easier to just inspect/view source and take what they did from the examples than try to write your own.
Re:Twitter has officially changed its logo to ‘X’ on Monday July 24, 2023 @09:04AM (#36847327)
I think the major difference there is, those people are all running one company. So while they also had/have other people to run it, they were/are much more significantly involved.
Re:GNU nano is my editor of choice (2021) on Wednesday December 28, 2022 @06:34AM (#34159986)
Probably because it was an emulation of pico, which started another 10 years before that.

I started with pico and moved to nano.

not really, plenty of talented lazy people out there
Re:The End of Online Anonymity (2019) on Sunday February 06, 2022 @11:59AM (#30234314)
I don't think the premise evaporates. There's a solvable difference between checking an ID against a database of IDs you control, vs identifying the fakeness of any other piece of random information.
Re:New Zealand's bid to become a dark sky nation on Friday February 04, 2022 @02:58PM (#30212144)
Here's why from later down: “Light-pollution activists and governments have been very focused on street lighting, and that makes sense because it’s probably the biggest single source and the government has direct control over it,” Kyba said. “But my worry is that most of the growth in light is coming from other applications. If we want to reduce the environmental impact of outdoor lighting, it’s not good enough to change to LED streetlights and then stop. We need to think critically about all the different types of light sources there are.”
Re:New Zealand's bid to become a dark sky nation on Friday February 04, 2022 @01:58PM (#30211302)
Kyba and colleagues found that streetlights accounted for just 13 percent of the city’s total light visible after midnight. That number would jump to 18 percent if the city did not dim the lights. This means most of the light is coming from other types of artificial lighting.

Re:Ask HN: How do you accept your place in the world? on Friday December 17, 2021 @08:27AM (#29591771)
If you want to write a crazy compiler, I’m sure you can if you go take the time to bother.

The problem with life is that you only have so much time to do what you want to do. So it’s up to you where you spend your efforts.

From your linked source on the Tree of the knowledge of good and evil:

Alternatively, some scholars have argued that the tree of the knowledge of good and evil is just another name for the tree of life.

Re:Getting to the Product Manager interview stage on Thursday June 24, 2021 @12:47PM (#27620221)
probably just something like this:

[total year range] Name of Company

-> indent [year range of last position] position title

   duties, interesting projects
-> indent [year range of 2nd to last] position title

   duties, interesting projects
Maybe include months for the individual roles depending on how short the year ranges are
Re:How does one get hired by a top cybercrime gang? on Wednesday June 16, 2021 @01:01PM (#27530790)
Good idea, "how to search" should also be paired with filtering noise.

There's a ton of information now and it's not always intuitive to understand what information you should value and when.

Which is why they should invest in these things before they happen, rather than respond.

Not every business deserves to be in business, either.

my thoughts would be:

- while building up your following on google, market your brand to your own site(s) as much as possible

- build brand an alternate streaming site(s)

- have a way to reach your followers in the event you get shut down - email list, etc. to inform your followers to switch to the alternate site

I don't know about 2100 but I've made some bets that self driving cars won't be available in the next 5 years.. 2 years ago.
Hmm I can maybe understand why you think you’ll be a mid level dev without putting in hours.. you didn’t mention your location so not sure.

But why in the world can’t you afford to change jobs? Plenty of places need mid level devs and it doesn’t cost anything to change jobs.. in fact they usually pay you more.

Re:The U.S. Divorce Rate Has Hit a 50-Year Low on Wednesday November 11, 2020 @11:34AM (#25059787)
Yeah, getting married at 16-20 was pretty much the norm before. Women expecting to have careers instead of their parents just trying to get them married off. Just a whole mind-shift from 50 years ago.

I thought this article did a good job of explaining the potential problems with the original findings.
"right now" has been going on for many, many years.
I think they do allow them to set rates now in CA
