Re:Medieval Arabs ate sandwiches too? on Thursday May 18, 2023 @05:27PM (#35994288)
Arabs were open to other ethnicities and didn’t try to arabize them. This is apparent in Persia, Turkic countries, etc. The regions assimilating Arabic were regions which spoke Afro-Asiatic languages, from which Arabic also hails. Similar assimilation happened with Aramaic before it and Assyrian before that, even thousand of year prior to Islam.
Re:Delphi 11 and C++Builder 11 Community Editions Released on Thursday April 27, 2023 @10:42PM (#35736948)
Rust is a small blip in the radar compared to C/C++ even Pascal, and its adoption has stagnated. The hype surrounding it just gives the impression of a wide userbase. Yeah it’s used in the industry but mostly for niche security related things. But even there, if you really need safety-critical security, use spark or certified (misra, autosar, sei cert) C/C++.

That’s probably why C++ couroutines allocate by default.
Re:The Year of C++ Successor Languages on Monday January 02, 2023 @06:09PM (#34225015)
That’s being stuck on usage patterns. Any automatic stack unwinding mechanism is the same. Whether C++ exceptions and Rust’s panics.

You should examples to the repo.
Really cool!

Is there an advantage to creating a quickjs wrapper instead of compiling the C wrapper into a node module?

Yes like you didn’t use a browser written in C++ to write that comment
Re:“I Could Rewrite Curl” on Thursday May 20, 2021 @09:50AM (#27221084)
It’s not that these devs don’t understand the complexity of curl, since it does make things appear simple, it’s because they don’t understand the complexity of the protocols implemented by curl. Long ago, at ${WORK} we implemented the http 1.1 protocol on top of platform tcp sockets, it took several months to implement a correct subset of the protocol, then when we needed more we scrapped it and just used libcurl!
Re:Parisian Accent in 1912 on Thursday January 14, 2021 @10:45AM (#25777710)
So is there a big difference between the artisan’s accent and modern day Parisian accents? Other than the recording quality and lack of modern fillers like ben ouais bof quoi etc, I can’t personally tell.
Nice work. V is coming along nicely. How would you say the autofree engine works, is it RAII?
Re:Growing the .NET Ecosystem on Tuesday December 15, 2020 @08:43PM (#25438019)
C# is nearly 2 decades old, and was intended to compete with Java, however it failed on the "write once run anywhere" and the "write once compile anywhere". Microsoft always had a Windows first attitude. Porting a project from Mono to .Net core was hell, and since Mono’s future was uncertain we ended up writing it in C++!

I also see a similar outcome for Swift outside of the Apple ecosystem.

Re:Why People Become Internet Trolls on Monday August 24, 2020 @04:59PM (#24265441)
What would constitute trolling?

I personally wouldn’t consider suicide baiting to be trolling. Passing outright personal insults, or engaging in character assasination is also not trolling.

These exhibit psycopathic behavior.

Also responding to insults with insults doesn’t mean the other side had just become a troll as the cited study seems to imply.

Khashoggi was a long time Saudi intelligence operative who operated in Afghanistan during the Afghan Russian war, then was posted in the US embassy for several years as an intelligence officer, officially "advisor to the ambassador". He turned journalist and was very loyalist to the Saudi royalty. The ascension of the current monarch and his son turned him after power swapping that happened in Saudi, so he left and turned "activist". He held so much dirty laundry on the Saudi govt from his previous work that they saw him as a threat. I doubt Ali Soufan or any other Saudi dissidents are seen as such a threat as Khashoggi.
