Re:La Cueva BBS in Mexico in 1993 (session replay) on Wednesday October 07, 2026 @03:22AM (#49989445)
Anyone from Argentina? I was cosysop of Century XXI BBS. Good times! :-)
My father installed a First Class BBS in Argentina in a private college (San Martín de Tours).

Kids were using it everyday to learn how to communicate using forums on Macs. This was pre internet. The user experience of this software was amazing. I used to help him to configure the forums (called Conferences)

Previously we used GBBS in an Apple II.

Re:Meta fined $102M for storing passwords in plain text on Saturday September 28, 2024 @04:59AM (#41678945)
GDPR fine is 4% of global turnover from previous fiscal year. 102m seems low to me.

Any idea of something like this but for Discord?
Re:Show HN: HackerNews but for research papers on Thursday May 23, 2024 @11:15AM (#40455747)
.xyz ltds are blocked on some corporations for security proposes. I suggest a .com domain.
I lost trust on Google B2C products. Specially in the upcoming war on AI, even GCP seems compromised on future investments to match Azure or AWS in terms of products.

Re:Atlassian to buy Loom for nearly $1B on Thursday October 12, 2023 @12:11PM (#37859167)
Microsoft implemented the same functionality in Office365 (it's called Stream). I think it's a great exit to sell to Atlassian.

Re:U.S. companies are hiring Latin America’s tech talent on Sunday January 30, 2022 @02:59PM (#30140516)
No statistics or useful data. Only a couple stories with some information about the topic.
Re:I got pwned by my cloud costs on Monday January 24, 2022 @06:55AM (#30056511)
Most of the clouds have functionalities to manage this. In AWS for example you can create an alarm with AWS Budget to monitor costs by tools/service/etc. Using a complex cloud without using this is not good practice.
Re:UK shops fear gaps on shelves as new Brexit import rules hit on Saturday January 01, 2022 @08:59AM (#29758282)

Re:Ask HN: Are AWS certs worth it in 2021? on Wednesday November 17, 2021 @05:54PM (#29259933)
Yes, it will help you to differentiate from the rest. Some exams are quite good (AWS Sysops includes labs now).
Re:Mistakes I've Made in AWS on Saturday September 11, 2021 @08:38AM (#28491504)

Re:The Pentagon inches toward letting AI control weapons on Thursday May 13, 2021 @03:28PM (#27146281)
I saw this in 1983. War games.
It's a big advantage to be able to move to another cloud, not because reliability of course, but having a lever so good in the negotiation with public cloud vendors will help you a lot.
This is one of the best cases to see if GDPR truly works in Europe

Older models where not soldered on the motherboard.
It is a great opportunity to ask about ssd lifespan in the M1. At the moment it's top secret and nobody knows what will happen in a year of normal usage with Big Sur.

Maybe they could change your entire motherboard if it fails after guarantee for a small fee?

What if your SSD fails because the usage? I'am happy to replace it with a new one. But in a M1 SoC, you can't. The whole motherboard is useless.
What part is serviceable on an M1 SoC? I returned my M1 MBA because I don't want to think on how to replace the SSD after two or three years of norm usage.

It's a great machine, but will buy it only after an official statement of Apple confirming what's the TBW of their ssd. It's 150? 300 or 600. Nobody knows.
