Re:Why Is Freedom of Speech Important?

The reason for this poem is also the reason for the restrictions on speech in Germany. Go figure. Also, the US has been morphing into an suthoritarian state for quite a while. What is not the freedom of white affluent males is under constant attack there. From the war against drugs to the war against women's rights, there are countless examples.

Hit piece? PewDiePie was effectively normalizing Nazi propaganda, for whatever reason. He should stop whining and admit that he has only himsrlf to blame. PewDiePie might not be racist, but he certainly is a spoiled brat who has no idea that actions can have consequences.

There can be no such evidence because there is no such thing as a "veil of ignorance". You are fully aware of your social status. It seems likely that this knowledge informs your values.

No. The topic has simply been ceded to a subset of philosophers who fill large volumes that still don't manage to say more about this topic than you do. One big problem is that your thought experiments are designed specifically to make the null hypothesis sound silly. That's the same strategy you guys have been uding for thousands of years. Not so long ago people claimed that life couldn't be explained without some special substance.

Your proposal is comparable to saying that checks and balances are not needed in a democracy, politicians just need to govern "right".
This is about incentivising scientists to do the right thing instead of merely demanding it, like you do.

Nazi Germany was Christian, very much so (There were also fringe pagan elements, yes). Atheists were persecuted under Hitler. Soviet Russia didn't kill anyone in the name of atheism. Atheism isn't an ideology, only the lack of a certain kind of ideology. There isn't much that unites atheists. It doesn't mean atheists don't subscribe to any ideologies, of course. In the case of Soviet Russia, the ideology responsible for the atrocities commited would be communism. Of course, these ideologies are not the sole reason people turn into savages. But Nazi Germany and Christianity for example were compatible because they shared a lot of hatred against jews. Christianity made a lot more people susceptible to Nazi propaganda (together with economic problems) than would have been possible.

Just look at any recent Android phone. Font rendering is basically solved, all it took was making displays dense enough. What you are talking about is legacy software that doesn't scale properly.

Russia made one big "mistake" after 1992: "privatizing" the public sector by "gifting" enterprises to friends of Yeltsin. You could of course call this redistribution of wealth, but that's not what anyone has in mind here.

I don't see how russia proves anything. to me, what didn't work wasn't wealth redistribution, but planned economy. And planned economy has become mire viable since then, thanks to computers.

Let's replace philosophy with medicine and the BS becomes apparent. So called Non-western philosophy is often a misnomer - it's actually religion.
