Huh, yeah I don't do much of that. I genuinely appreciate these replies. It's good to know where my blind spots are. Thank you!
TFA contains a link to a CCLA petition. Can you provide more context for your statement?

I get zero LLM vibes from this blog post.

We've done nothing of the sort.
Re:I Love Software Rendering on Saturday October 17, 2026 @09:42AM (#50131118)
Agreed. This reads like a human to me.
Re:Wanted to download an ISO, ended up writing a kernel exploit on Thursday October 15, 2026 @07:45AM (#50102308)
Agreed, fun to read. Spite driven development. Reminded me of that Asus ACPI issue that somebody went buckwild on last year, or when Tavis Ormandy decided that xterm on windows took too long to launch.

Re:Apple: Switch to Safari (From Chrome) on Wednesday October 14, 2026 @06:41AM (#50085454)
I abandoned chrome for ff a few yrs ago when the privacy issues became impossible to ignore. I abandoned ff for safari about a year ago when performance problems became unbearable. My biggest annoyance was the lack of devtools until a single web search revealed that safari does in fact have a full featured set of devtools, you just need to turn them on. No complaints.

Reader mode and hide distracting items are phenomenal, use them both daily.

Ah I see. This is helpful, thank you for taking the time to break it down!

EDM primarily. House, drum and bass, and dubstep seem to be the most common around my area.

RA is great for big cities but mine is too small for them.
Re:RSS Feeds for Last.fm on Thursday October 01, 2026 @05:21AM (#49919540)
I started mine last summer but gave up a few months ago. I just couldn't stand looking at insta every day to surface updates, and when I wrote a scraper (read only - no likes, comments, or posts) to do the job for me my account got banned for bot activity.

Fuck instagram.

I just finished "Behave" and am excited to get my hands on Determined next!
Re:RSS Feeds for Last.fm on Wednesday September 30, 2026 @07:19AM (#49907292)
This is true, and I hate it. All the local DJs I enjoy post their gigs on instagram and nowhere else. All the fans I know use instagram to get updates about where the shows are happening.

In practice I just wait for my friends to tell me where the music will be, but I also hate the whole setup deeply and want instagram to die in a fire.

Re:Self-Hosting on the Dark Web on Monday September 28, 2026 @08:15AM (#49876813)
I've done some searching and can't find a description of "site fronting" that fits with my read of your comment.

I thought the whole point of Tor is that I (and only I) am able to serve traffic at a .onion URL that I have generated. How could someone else get in front of that?

Re:Show HN: Radius โ€“ A Meetup.com Alternative on Monday September 21, 2026 @06:11AM (#49785308)
Fucking instagram.

I wrote a bot to scrape the feeds of local event organizers and extract their events for me so I wouldn't have to look at that damned site just to find out what's going on. My account was banned for bot activity.

Never posted, commented, liked, or interacted in any way. Just read feeds and exported data.

Abandoned the project and blocked instagram at the DNS level for all my devices.

Fuck instagram.

It's a different of degree, not kind.

Anybody who has reviewed pull requests can tell you that sooner or later you approve a PR after many rounds of changes because it's finally "good enough".

Fighting with a robot to just do the damned thing is less fraught because they don't get offended by critiques but it takes more round trips to get them pointed in the direction you want.

Re:Warez: The Infrastructure and Aesthetics of Piracy Culture on Saturday September 19, 2026 @06:14AM (#49765119)
Folks enjoying this book and discussion may also enjoy this miniseries which predates youtube. "The Scene" is a fictional dramatization about a warez release group told entirely through the perspective of group members by way of screencasts of their online interactions.

I recall thinking it was a cool and novel way to tell a story at the time it was released, but admittedly I haven't revisitted it in a couple decades so it may seem tame by todays standards.

Agreeing with a person is not the same thing as agreeing with a robot.
Re:Doing Everyone Else's Job on Wednesday September 16, 2026 @09:25AM (#49726700)
That org is too large for you. At large orgs when you see a problem you think you can fix, someone will tell you that's not your job. At small orgs when you see a problem you think you can fix someone will thank their lucky stars you offered to help.

Re:iOS 27, iPadOS 27, and macOS 27 on Tuesday September 15, 2026 @05:52AM (#49710053)
I finally upgraded to Tahoe a couple weeks ago after putting it off for ages. As soon as it came up, my external monitor (connected by DVI to a caldigit dock) started being flaky af. I have to reconnect 2-3 times to get it to properly detect.

cool beans.

Well shit. I'm a huge fan of the band Artic Monkeys but I know nothing about festival guides. Is there a connection?

old.reddit still works anonymously for me. maybe an a/b test?
Yep. Too bad Vagrant is useless these days :/
Containerizing sucks when you want to work on something containerized. If your goal is to have the agent iterate on a container it's much less headache to just put the whole thing in a VM and let it `docker build` and `docker run` whatever it wants to.
Honestly I'm so old that I'm not sure if this remark is satire or an actual attempt to tell me that I'm out of touch. Is writing like this considered normal now?
Sure sign of llm free writing, baffling sentence construction.
