The governance types maybe don't inhabit HN in high numbers.
You've just defined punishment with your definition of it.

The low-effort metacommentary on what all of HN is supposedly doing or saying is what 2026 HN is really about.

Or no more hot drinks. Ban kettles.
> I won't want to be beholden to them and their whims forever.

Who's keeping you beholden to them now?

I always thought Sisko and his son were both very wooden. I'm probably mostly meaning them. Kira and Dax also, although not so much.
Indeed.
Punishment is something done on purpose.
Perhaps, but not as a punishment for using a free browser.
Well, no, there are multiple. Thinking it's punishment for using a free browser is unsupported by your description.

I only use Firefox with tracking protection on and the DDG extension on, and it always works for me.

How does that relate to "Cloudflare will next decide to lock me out of half of the web for my crimes of using a free browser", though? Seems to be unrelated?
When did Cloudflare ever do this?
You must have some conception of why these measures exist, and else this sort of tool will be helping. Surely.
I also like picking cherries.
The only problem is the acting in DS9.

Call me pathologically unbiased, but I doubt this same article written by Cloudflare would get this response.

> Somewhere along the way, tech stopped asking questions like that, and now, people are hostile to the suggestion that the question should be asked.

People never stopped asking this sort of thing, and you can find some people who are hostile to anything. 'Twas ever thus. Constructing a cherry-picked, wistful narrative is not very helpful.

That seems a pretty weak signal. Individuals like presenting stuff and going on jollies.

It's also because they were addicted to Russian gas, and had to spend a fortune to wean themselves off it once the war was raging - though not before giving Russia a lot of gas money for the war - and converting its power plants to use LNG, which it ships in from the USA. That is a mad situation even before Iran.
Was that it? Or did I allow access to the vault for people to copy the secrets from?

Can you evidence this?

It's not democracy. People don't want high energy prices. It's just their only voting options are all politicians who will give them high energy prices.

Big corporations are only big because they provide what customers want. They don't get to extract money from people's work, the way politicians can.

I'm not fighting any of them. If someone has a defamation case against Fox News then I bet everyone here doesn't go and defend Fox News, because they're not principled and are just emotionally activated by Donald Trump and the BBC being involved in this one.
There are definitely price downsides to having to pay corporation tax.
I've never understood why Meta is being pursued over this and not Cambridge Analytica. I thought CA were the ones misusing the app system.
Re:Ofcom Concedes Defeat in the 4chan Case on Thursday October 22, 2026 @05:11AM (#50193058)
My point is "He's rich as fuck, and President of the United States!" doesn't mean people can do things to him. The utter foolishness of putting people in a box so you don't have to treat them like a human any more is evil no matter what label is on the box.

Both places have defamation laws.
Re:After automation: Solo founding will be the default on Thursday October 22, 2026 @02:10AM (#50191769)
> we discovered that the share of solo founders has nearly doubled between 2018 and 2026 to 39 percent of new startups

This seems to be the wrong date range to test for AI's impact.

Re:Ofcom Concedes Defeat in the 4chan Case on Wednesday October 21, 2026 @05:16PM (#50187749)
It wasn't an error or a mistake. Defamation is bad no matter the recipient or the perpetrator.

Thank you for writing that in such a non-reactionary way. How's the view from the right side of history?
