Re:Trolls Are Swarming Young Climate Activists Online on Thursday September 26, 2019 @03:44PM (#21084732)
Kids are simply used these days to deflect any criticism, HOW DARE YOU CRITICIZE A 16 YR OLD KID

The truth is most of these children are just that, children, they are being used by capitalistic parents as a walking billboard for whatever agenda or service is being promoted.

Awareness is great and all but not many people are looking to be more aware, we are looking for practical solutions, none of which are being offered with all the attention goes to idolizing a child.

google "war on drugs" and "prison industrial complex"

Its highly likely that tourists would congregate around the same attractions when visiting a foreign city. A site like tripadvisor would have enough data to predict with high confidence the itinerary of 1000 random couples who visit a place. I live in a resort city and there is a clear distinction between areas that locals gather and the places tourists frequent.
You sure can if you find somebody willing to take them
Re:Netflix is not the future of TV on Wednesday May 22, 2019 @09:58AM (#19981208)
Not many people are going to subscribe to a service to watch the same movies over and over again. DIS+ is dead int he water unless it somehow creates exclusive novel new content, which it wont just for its service, ergo DOA

Re:How Good Are FiveThirtyEight Forecasts? on Friday April 26, 2019 @01:42PM (#19760011)
Can anyone explain how 538 got the last election so wrong?

Its quite obvious in hindsight their model is flawed, but Im not understanding how is it flawed.

Why do they call it a "design system" instead of a framework .. you know like 99% of the web does
Re:What does Stack Overflow want to be when it grows up? on Wednesday October 24, 2018 @01:09PM (#18294324)
Pretty obvious answer similar to what google does, show alternative views and account for vote inflation.

e.g. if you get 1000 upvotes in position 1 those are worth less than 750 votes in position 2 because its expected that users will lean towards the first answer presented

Adding another request to a 3rd party server that could be down is a very bad idea

The most successful companies are those with a minority of power users who evangelize them at every turn. Apple only became the behemoth it its because of the steadfast dedication of its most loyal customers.
Re:Building a Site in 24 Hours and Growing It to +$2M/Year on Tuesday September 04, 2018 @02:08PM (#17911368)
Honestly looks like a site that was made in 12 hrs, and its just a bunch of random cheap chinese made junk. There is nothing compelling about this brand or the products listed. Browsed the site for about 10mins and cant remember one thing that stood out.

Solution: don't go on reddit
the Usd is the de-facto reserve currency of the world, its how america is able to export its inflation and keep printing money without diluting the value of the dollar.
Doesn't pass my sniff test ... sounds expensive and who will pay for it test
Re:Why China doesn’t dominate soccer on Friday June 22, 2018 @10:08AM (#17374057)
Its simple really, chinese ppl in general dont care about sports let alone hockey, most of my friends have never been to a hockey game, or baseball or a soccer match. Chinese people would rather work and have other hobbies outside of sports. Sports isnt the end all be all. its actually not very important at all in the big scheme, you can get excerise in many other ways and be successful in many different professions.
China is not surrounded by rivals, its also never been conquered. The chinese do not have the same existential fear that france does.

Thats literally his job ...
Digital Ocean, Laravel 5.6, Bootstrap 4, and git you can have a working site up in 2 hours.
The supreme court and the constitution would beg to differ.
Re:Is capitalism a threat to democracy? on Friday May 11, 2018 @11:45AM (#17048205)
The only way to fix democracy is to make voting mandatory, but the elites in power have no motive to change the system. In fact they have all the reason to keep the status-quo. The current version of democracy is a treat to democracy itself.
Re:Walmart.com on Tuesday May 08, 2018 @10:52AM (#17021278)
We're having technical difficulties and are looking into the problem now.

Its quite clear to anyone with even an passing understanding of copyright and to anyone with even a basic moral compass that what this fraudster did was not illegal or right and he paid the price. A few techcrunch articles will not change this understanding.
Re:Credit card fraud warning signs on Monday April 30, 2018 @01:48PM (#16960681)
A velocity report is the only real way of pro-actively catching fraudsters. something like ip address by alias or something similar.
