Re:Why Is This Fingerprinting Script Creating Bioweapons? on Wednesday October 28, 2026 @06:02PM (#50281561)
On Fable 5.1 Medium this causes a "pause" for bio safety reasons. Okey dokey.

Very cool! I just turned on the PC and monitor, loaded the Wolfenstein 3D floppy, and ran it.

In Tennessee hospitals a nurse, staff member, or authorized volunteer will swing by your room in the mother-baby unit and sign you up. Then you start receiving free books by mail each month until age 5. An amazing program by an amazing person!
Re:Today, we hacked what we'd set out to hack: the iPhone on Friday October 23, 2026 @01:40PM (#50212666)
Serious question: What alternative phones do you suggest? I've tried PinePhone and PinePhone Pro and it was painful.
Re:Voxtral 3 on Tuesday October 20, 2026 @04:12PM (#50172004)
Yeah, they're a riot.
Re:Solar Panels That Plug into Your Wall on Tuesday October 13, 2026 @08:42AM (#50070765)
I sincerely get your concern. Clearly explain on the box what NOT to do and be explicit about the risk. Use an icon of a house on fire. Done. Life is risk, and regulating and banning things based on the lowest common denominator of human judgement is a fool's errand. Should we ban vehicles as well since about 40k people die from vehicle related fatalities annually?
Re:A Brief History of the Bloomberg Terminal on Wednesday September 30, 2026 @02:11PM (#49912376)
Agreed. Also, you can try to satisfy both new and expert users. It take more thought and design, but that principle is in both Nielsen's Heuristics and Shneiderman's Golden Rules.
Re:A Brief History of the Bloomberg Terminal on Wednesday September 30, 2026 @01:55PM (#49912194)
Wow, really? Do they limit your time on it? I would imagine that thing is in constant demand.
Re:A Brief History of the Bloomberg Terminal on Wednesday September 30, 2026 @01:53PM (#49912180)
I had occasional access to a Bloomberg terminal 20 years ago and I still miss it. I miss it a lot. I wish they offered a cheaper option for users who only need to use it infrequently. I mean, $25,000 annually is brutal if you're not a broker-dealer.

With enough repitation you might get repitition.
Thanks for the correction! I misread the outbound vs. return mail details. I agree with you about the IF on the cycle of delays.
1 million ballots at 10,000 per batch means 100 batches. It seems they will use 400 ballots from each batch as a sample, and if anything is wrong for one of those 400 sample ballots, then the entire batch of 10,000 is sent back. Some nefarious actor could find 100 messed up ballots and include one in each sample of 400, and viola! 100 ballots invalidates 1 million votes. That's quite a system they got there.
> Three honest possibilities, and I’ll be straight with you about each

This. I don't know if the "honest answer" phrasing is part of the system prompt or alignment, but when people say "honestly" all the time I start wondering how honest they're being.

Re:Every Fucking Website (2020) on Friday August 14, 2026 @02:04PM (#49302417)
<sarc/> A website can track where your mouse pointer is, but surely they wouldn't do this on purpose just to get ad revenue.
Re:Ultraviolet Bird Photography on Friday August 14, 2026 @01:56PM (#49302304)
Wow. That is a worth a glance, folks.
Re:Every Fucking Website (2020) on Friday August 14, 2026 @11:29AM (#49300122)
This. My favorite is when I search for products on a website or app and the results appear in batches, with subsequent results interleaving with the previous results. So when you want to select a particular result and start to move your mouse and click, or move your finger and press, you often end up selecting something unintended because a later result pops into the location.
Re:Karpathy's Pelican on Sunday August 02, 2026 @03:34PM (#49147555)
But LLM's passed the Turing test, so we're done, right? ;-) Seriously, though, I agree with you that people keep moving the ball.
Re:Folding Paper Globes on Sunday August 02, 2026 @03:04PM (#49147312)
That they don't show how they look when folded is either bizarre, or that the end results are disappointing.
Exactly, it depends. I completely believe your experience. My wife's experience was instant bricking and Apple's warranty completely excludes liquid damage. If you have Apple Care+ they'll replace it for a fee.
I agree completely! Our Garmin Descent Mk3i dive computer smart watches are the best watches I've ever seen. They just work. You can charge it for an hour or so and it's good for 25 days. I hated having to charge previous watches every day. It has a double-tap light on/off feature with a very bright LED, four light levels, and a red light mode. It automatically starts tracking my dives and is rated to 200 meters. It can also do diver-to-diver messaging, air tank tracking, and group tracking using subwave sonar. And it has all the normal pulse ox, heart rate tracking, step tracking, sleep tracking, and smartwatch stuff. Just don't enable the one touch kill-switch ;-). Apparently it's a feature for military divers to erase their data (but sounds like a marketing gimmick).
The only IP ratings that I trust are on dive computers and dive computer watches (but I've read mixed results about Apple Watch Ultras for diving). The Garmin Descent Mk3i dive computer and smart watch is a solid performer.
Yeah, and drop your iPhone, in a ruggedized case, into 3 inches of bath water for 5 seconds from a height of one foot and then realize apple's IP68 claim is laughable.

Nashville Electric Service rates are 12.0 cents / kWh. Flat rate, no peak or off peak rates for residential.
There's always the Death Star angle.
"The temple’s dimensions are based on the number 12 and a module of 7.5m."

12 / 7.5 = 1.6 ~= Golden ratio

Ha, yeah. Fortunately for him, Connery did James Bond first, then later did Zardoz and Highlander.
But there's a whole Zardoz episode!
Re:CARA 2.0 – "I Built an Better Robot Dog" on Wednesday May 06, 2026 @02:08PM (#48039496)
That is very cool. Their kit is $3,000 and the unaffiliated kit is $2,350, so definitely a commitment.
Yes
Re:How to draw construction equipment for kids on Tuesday September 23, 2025 @08:22PM (#45354608)
Lol, right on! I grew up on a farm in an area where the economy centers around Ag. There used to be an annual fundraiser dinner in a nearby town (population 309) with various games for kids. One of the more popular games was to see who could hammer a nail into a board first. Good times.
