Re:Scaling Git at OpenAI on Tuesday November 03, 2026 @04:47AM (#50349962)
The non-agentic coding take is that a monorepo makes code sharing a lot easier. Especially in my case with OCaml front to back, I can just share protocol.mli files between parts of the code without duplication or vendoring my own repos.

The same is really true for agents. All code in one place makes it faster and more reliable to load the proper context for coding tasks.

Maybe you missed it, but OP wrote about a gym app, not a mandatory gym app. So why don't you take that Boomer energy and yell at EVs instead?

If you value your time on planet Earth greater than zero dollars, it might as well be the latter.
Re:OpenAI expands ChatGPT ads with Sponsored Agents on Wednesday September 16, 2026 @11:07AM (#49728225)
Looks like your average ad with a chat interface after you click it. For most online shopping, I consider this stuff annoying. Top of funnel is more sensible IMHO. Advise me on what product to buy, and help me make an informed decision, but I guess that is not where the ad dollars sit.

Iran still exported, and the nations that bought will now buy where we buy as well.
Land based fish farms might be the future for seafood. Actually rooting for Nordic Halibut and Salmon Evolution.
I assume they do this no before releasing new models. It feels like they expect higher user influx from their new models.
The OCR stuff is quite usable. Their models perform good at some very basic tasks, so I use them to diversify. But their current model lineup is really terrible.
N=40. No idea why one would release such bullshit.

The worst part will be the idiotic news outlets publishing the stupid headline followed by the pseudoscience peddlers pushing peppermint oil supplements onto an ever-increasing boomer population by AI-generated Instagram ads. Lovely times we live in.

Can someone enlighten me why Flock cameras are worse than the average security camera? How is it such a big topic now when their large network suggests that they've been in operation for quite some time by now?

The LLM code influx is not the problem. Microsoft mismanagement is: https://damrnelson.github.io/github-historical-uptime/
Re:Dropbox is an obvious PE Target? on Wednesday August 12, 2026 @11:00AM (#49273471)
Mailbox and Paper. With just those and a Google Sheets alternative they would have had all the tools ready for the pandemic boom.
Re:Dropbox is an obvious PE Target? on Wednesday August 12, 2026 @03:41AM (#49269016)
Dropbox pulled the plug on so many good apps. They should have built the full office suite in the browser and eventually slapped an email service on it. As a competitor to Google Workspace, they would have a real chance. Storage as a Service is too little of a moat in the cloud age.
Re:The Water Footprint of AI on Tuesday August 11, 2026 @06:37AM (#49256024)
They are not drying up because of AI datacenters and especially not because of European datacenters.

While man-made climate change is undoubtedly real, the yearly "our lakes dry up"-media cycle is not proof of it at all. Check if the return to normal in November will make the news.

Re:Fastmail offers EU data region on Saturday August 08, 2026 @04:38PM (#49225680)
Take a look at how they play with regards to chat control. The EU is just the same corrupt BS like D.C., only with a lot more virtue signaling.

Re:The founder's playbook: Building an AI-native startup on Wednesday June 17, 2026 @03:46AM (#48567128)
Welcome to the world of companies founded by business school grads. No soul, no moat, just an endless cycle of KPIs and billion-dollar exits to PE.
I just implemented a WhatsApp bot for a small business. Implementation was fairly easy. What was horrible was navigating the mess of Meta Business Manager with personal and business entity accounts, unlinking the app to free the phone number, getting that reverified, yada yada yada. Just give people an easy API setup and start seeing great things happen.
Was that the year they fired the Rust team to focus on paying their executives?
I'd argue the average EU citizen has absolutely no idea how any of the Brussels bullshit works in reality. We learned it in school once, very briefly, just long enough to learn it is a clusterfuck of chambers. We are told it is democratic, and that's it. Once you get older, all you hear is: Brussels forbids this, forbids that. The EU is ripe for disruption.
You are assuming friendly and equal terms for all customers. What if Trump decides there should be 50% tariffs on tokens? Or what if certain use cases get blocked by OpenAI because they do not fit their worldview? Is it clever to implement AI in every step of the economy without the ability to self-host?
Try Claude Code for a weekend. Maybe that clears up the confusion about how amazing AI can be.

You can also take a look at North Korea as an example of a nation that decided the industrial revolution was one to sit out.

The way I see it, we hit a ceiling with the capabilities of AI. Singularity will most likely not happen (not with the resource hunger of current methods). What remains are incredible tools to help remove the most tedious tasks from everyone's work.
We do. But currently we are choosing the Luddite way of doing things. Simply ignoring this fantastic technology is not a choice but economic suicide.
AI is front and center of any new digital product these days. More and more tedious tasks are automated using agents, even in small businesses. Assuming Europe won't invest in datacenters, eventually it will find itself in a position where it is completely dependent on US and Chinese companies providing the core to such solutions to them. This will eventually lead to a situation where more and more value creation will flow towards these economies.
Datacenters need cheap energy, something no region in Europe is having in abundance (except maybe Norway, Sweden, and Finland). I don't think Lombardy was seeing too much DC construction. It's just typical green politics. Forever backwards.

Sure, people feel somewhat AI-fatigued, but blocking the future won't play out nicely for Italy or Europe in general.

Kagi is the only search engine that actually provides me with results comparable to plain Google. I do not need to adapt my searches or learn some sort of syntax to avoid pinterest or other offenders. DDG, Bing & Qwant are just not good enough for my use.
The next Netflix breakout show will burn this planet to the grounds :)
Re:Framework Laptop 13 Pro on Wednesday April 22, 2026 @06:58AM (#47861769)
I did. I keep my charging cable close, or basically always attached. Battery life is abysmal. No idea why, had other Linux-based laptops before. Battery life was never good, but never this bad.
Just give us the option to get the quality back, Anthropic. I get that even a $200 subscription is not possible eventually, but give us the option to sub the $1000 tier or tell us to use the API tier, but give us some consistency.
