Only a person who does no actual work could hold this opinion.
Why are Anthropic and OpenAI even allowing their coding harness apps to be plugged into different model providers…? I’m surprised they haven’t figured out a way to clamp down on that by now.
“Open” frontier intelligence? In what sense? Have they announced their intention to release the weights similar to their previous releases?
That’s not a problem with the tool, it’s a problem with the team / the people.
The author is obviously male as well, yes.
These arguments are increasingly smelling strawman-ish to me. The authors seem to pick the absolute worst possible examples of LLM usage in software development, ignoring the fact that it is ultimately just a tool, and that all the blame for a shitty product continues to lie at the feet of the one wielding it like a giant doofus.
This change to xsnow is obviously an unalloyed negative, and the simplest test to confirm this to yourself is to imagine the political statement being something you disagree with, e.g. if the locale were set to an EU country, only the US flag would show.
Can we please stop highlighting and indulging these neurotic cybersocialists?
So… it would have been okay with Rob Bonta if Netflix had acquired Warner Bros…?
Does this mean the political left will need to start changing their favorite boogeyman target phrase from “billionaires” to “trillionaire”?
“Capitalism” isn’t a real thing; it’s sort of like using the term “transubstantiation”. For someone outside of the religion, it doesn’t mean much.
What we really mean when we say “capitalism” is just people freely engaging in agreements together. In such a free society, people will hurt and trample on each other. The right move is to rely on the Republic to represent our interests and prevent that trampling from crossing red lines that we all decide on.
You don’t need to stop people from freely making agreements and transacting together; you just need to have a functioning system of laws. Whether or not we have one is an exercise left to the reader.
> Everyone with a choice has mostly moved on to codex
Ha!
Finally, a sane and enjoyable read about a coding project. Feel like it’s been months since we had one of these that wasn’t filled to the brim with bluesky/mastodon-flavored whining about AI.
Kudos to the author. A fun read, thank you for sharing.
Nope. That’s exactly what I’m advocating too.
Whoa there. Quite a lot of strong assumptions you’re making about me. That doesn’t seem very empathetic or compassionate on your part.
Sure. So how would you feel about a Christian nudging you to stop taking the lord’s name in vain because they believe it’s “good for anyone to do”?
> I try very hard to avoid gendered words like "guys" and actively work to remove other insensitive language from my vocabulary, and will nudge folks I work with accordingly, and recommend you let me know if I'm doing / saying things that should be stopped
I would definitely let you know that it’s wrong to “nudge folks” to conform to your own personal beliefs and chosen behaviors. You’re free to practice your religious beliefs in your own private life; don’t force them on others in your vicinity.
Side note: I’ve repeatedly noticed this same self-righteousness advertised by similar autistic / ADHD-coded people online, particularly in the software dev space, and particularly amongst what I’d call the bluesky / mastodon set.
This is a very bad look for Microsoft. Israel is the only successful and powerful free democratic state in that part of the world, surrounded on all sides by authoritarian regimes who scheme its destruction, and Microsoft harrumphs and says it would be unethical to do business with them? All the while continuing to do business with the Saudis, the UAE, and Qatar. But no, Israel (the only good guy in the area) is just a step too far…
Many celebrities and public figures have and use private jets. Why are these dweebs highlighting just one? Or indeed “calling out” anyone at all. What a scummy thing to do.
Awful lot of assumptions being made about me. Maybe you should stick to writing incredibly compelling articles instead.
But maybe I’m just one of those people with “minor cases of major brain damage”.
Again, you are an absurd person for even considering that you can claim to slice our species up into “human” and “not human” based upon your own trite-ass viewpoints. Don’t reply to my posts.
Look at you, happy to set the standard for who is human and who isn’t. Let me guess: you consider yourself “progressive” too.
This trend of “everybody hates AI!” articles from bluesky people is becoming really tiresome. Every week it’s a new variant on that theme, and never substantiated. Major yawn.
I’m certainly glad we have respected contributing members of our community named things like “diebillionaires”. What’s next, “killallkikes”? HN is an amazing place.
The term “enshittification” really ruins (one might say “enshittifies”) any article it’s in.
Banksy is the patron saint of the “I’m 13 and this is deep” mentality.
What an incredibly nihilistic thing to communicate to your students. “Our society is failing. I’m terrified, and you’re probably fucked. Love is love tho <3!”
Why not encourage your students to be curious about emerging technology, and to engage with society as an informed citizen?
This reeks of political activism, and it’s reminiscent of the general BlueSky-esque tone of the Correspondents Dinner shooter’s manifesto.
