Oh man, we’re fucked though. No one is going to stop these people.

Even in the US I can feel the scale tilting as normies start to rationalize a mass surveillance on unprecedented scales.

All of these people folded immediately when a fat TV retard won. I’ve seen them literally call for the nationalization of private companies that act contrary to Trumps desires in the last couple of years.

Expect a lot more of this.
Not everybody. Some very mentally ill individuals thought we’d all be living in some start-trek post scarcity TV show.

You have to understand how much the middle and lower classes can become addicted to cheap lines of credit made accessible to them.

Re:Uber Faces Growing Pressure over Sexual Assault Record on Wednesday January 21, 2026 @09:41AM (#46706349)
As a man, I never understood how bad this was. I have only felt unsafe in an Uber a few times, mostly because the driver should have had their license revoked due to their advanced age.

Without going into too much detail, I’ve learned just how bad it is. On the “less” vile end of things, my current parter had some desperate slime try to offer her money for sex. I made sure he reported him, but Silicon Valley loves to enable sex criminals, I imagine he’s still out there.

Re:200 MB RAM FreeBSD Desktop on Wednesday January 21, 2026 @09:29AM (#46706211)
A few years back, I had fun setting up an old X11 terminal I had in my rather eccentric retro computing collection.

But I don’t think I had much memory in it. I had ordered a fair bit more, but maybe only 4-8M.

I did get it to work with only minor difficulties, but man only the simplest of applications could run. The barebones basic GUI text editor that came with Ubuntu couldn’t even start up.

> Meta’s in-house lawyers demanded the erasure of any and all evidence of this finding. When asked by Senator Josh Hawley how often she’d witnessed an underage user being exposed to inappropriate sexual content on Meta VR, Savage replied, “every time I use the headset.”

We need brutal, public executions for people like this.

> It is really disturbing to see that most Republican legislators are still not speaking up openly against the Trump administration.

Take a look at the voter base: There’s a hubris of invincibility and jingoism in the air. Even among typical moderates. Rome can never fall!

It’s worse than that, it’s like bringing a knife to a fight against an entire army equipped with all the latest and greatest weapons of the day.

How much did they deposit you for that lie lmao.
I haven’t cancelled Spotify etc but I axed HBO max after what seemed to be the third email about another price increase in a short period.

Funny thing is, if they just had offered me larger one-shot price increase, I’d have paid it no mind likely. Something about the drip-feed of price increases in such a short time pissed me off enough to cancel though.

It does make sense if they position themselves to take hard power. That’s worth a lot more than money alone and worth losing even large amounts for.
Anyone of consequence will likely be ok. They have good revenue streams that they would prefer not be interrupted though.
> except maybe among a certain set of cranks.

Eh, a growing set of cranks. The diversity of political opinion in America seems to have exploded over the last decade. Cranks are now serious contenders for power and influence.

> I can't believe it's current year and this bigot doesn't want his country overrun with foreigners or to have a middle class lifestyle unattainable for the average man

Tsk tsk, peasants learned to live with their stature centuries ago why can’t you?

Man, a gun is so much cheaper.

> Its very much like google. Anyone can google anything. But at a certain point, you need to understand _how to google_ to get good results rather than just slapping any random phrase and hoping the top 3 results are magically going to answer you. And sometimes you need to combine the information from multiple results to get what you are going for.

Lmao, and just as with google, they’ll eventually optimize it for ad delivery and it will become shit.

Give it a few months and LLM-skepticism will be framed as domestic terrorism.

Don’t attention whore on the internet if you want privacy.
Depends. Can you stomach being an antisocial idiot, a shill, a liar? These are the talents we need.
How do these mentally ill people continue to rise to such heights. This sounds like the description of someone’s manic episode.
Re:Ask HN: Job seekers, what's working / not working? on Monday January 12, 2026 @09:20AM (#46588857)
“Nepotism” worked pretty well for me. A year out of work, only to be turned around when I lucked out and a family member referred me to a company they had just started at. This was around 2022-2023 though, things may have changed significantly since then.

Remote is dead, except for the lucky, so it’s best not to waste time and effort on those roles was my experience. I had a much higher callback rate for jobs that were on-site. Even my current job started hybrid, before it was snuffed out.

The general vibe appears to be this is the direction society is moving towards in general. Condolences to those who aren’t schmoozers and don’t have a network to crutch on.

Re:The Next Two Years of Software Engineering on Monday January 12, 2026 @08:01AM (#46587852)
Yeah really seems like the only way to win (or rather not lose) is simply not to play.

At this point I’ve realized I need to cast all other ambitions aside and work on getting some out of the way land that I own.

Japan is a dying society of autistic retards.
Re:How your high school affects your chances of UC Admission on Saturday January 10, 2026 @03:39PM (#46569696)
Most likely the people living somewhere continuously with gunfire wasn’t ever going to succeed academically either way. There are exceptions of course.

You’d have to basically rebirth and resocialize them in a different culture entirely.

Far too many people already have been educated past their natural state and it’s going to get ugly.

I’m certain that if Russia somehow managed to attack or invade Spain, they would not be standing alone. I can’t imagine the French will be as content to sit around twiddling thumbs when their neighbor is lit up.
Because silicon valley is run by a pedophiles.

It’s usually old/high karma accounts, as they can get away with it easier. Throwaways that establish themselves for a time too, but those are usually dealt with eventually
