You have an extra "o" when you spelt loser. But no, I've been there buddy, and honestly, still partly stuck in that rut. What really helped me is just going out to meet people. When I think abt the days that depression hits the hardest, it's usually the days when I have minimal to zero human interaction. Something abt regular social interactions is critical for my mental well. I also have had pretty bad social anxiety, but recently have committed myself to getting better at it. Used to think of it as something innate, that other people were borne with but somehow I was passed over. Now I realize it's just a skill like any other, and the more you immerse interact with people, the better you get at it, and the more enjoyable it becomes. Recommend just taking any opportunity you can get with strangers to make small talk with them. Bars are good for this too. Also I noticed that the way you write your messages, strongly signals "depressed person". You need to supress this outward expression of your depressive state as much as possible when interacting with other people. Because as much as society tells you otherwise, nobody really enjoys interacting with a depressed person. So no matter how you feel on the inside, shud try your best to reflect an outwardly normal attitude. BTW, some others have commented seeking therapy. I have mixed feelings abt this. On one hand, people with seriously crippling depression shud definitely seek professional help. On the other hand, alot of self diagnosed "depression" can be simply chalked up to having some bad days, rather than some chemical imbalances in the brain. In the latter case, seeking a therapist just externalizes the solution instead of facing the problem that is yours to solve yourself. What you are feeling would probably continue for the rest of your life, unless you can do something to change it. Anyways, I hope this helped. Don't give up, and always remember that youre probably stronger than you think. The present is not indicative of the future, and even your worst days will give way to a brighter tomorrow
Re:The sexual counterrevolution is coming on Sunday May 23, 2021 @05:37PM (#27258815)
The trend have been long established before the pandemic was a thing, and although I do think that that the reduction in economic prospects have affected it, that should be somewhat offset with what I have previously stated, which is an increasing predilection for sexual promiscuity in our culture while enabled by greater access via dating apps. The fact that the reverse is happening, that in fact the rate of teenage hookups have dramatically fallen, is, in my mind, an affirmation for the disastrous effects that massively distributed pornography has played in our romantic culture, substituting the drive for romantic courtship and promoting anti social activities.

And anyways, what does reducing pressures on teens to have sex as early as possible (which I whole heartily agree with) have to do with the facts that we were discussing anyways?

The 2x differential between GenX sex rates and the current sex rates seems like a pretty good statistic. Can't imagine anything that's affecting that number but the massive distribution of pornography enabled by the advent of the internet, reducing the need for real intimacy, especially given the way that our culture is even more hyper sexualized than back in the 60s and more enabled by dating apps.

> This article implies that forgiveness and mercy are immoral. People have the capability to create evil. Seeing as there is some good around, we must be able to create good as well. As moral creatures who can create good and evil, are we not obligated to create as much good as we can, and extinguish evil where we can? Or should we shrug our shoulders and say, it’s not my fault I am bad, there was evil before me, evil was done to me, and I will embrace it myself.

> There are a lot of false dichotomies in the article, especially the idea that it isn’t possible to disincentivize or even punish evil without embodying evil yourself, therefore confusing evil and good. There is too much to write, it seems foolish to even have to explain. Thousands of years of (mostly) successful criminal justice assumed that dispassionate, fair judgment is at least possible.

I don't think he was advocating for evil as the only way to combat evil, in all circumstances but only in some.

And as much as the development of a impartial judicial can regulate certain cases of amoral behavior, there are still many more situations where a compromise of our morals is nesseacary to correct some situation at hand.

Cases that come to mind range from insulting someone for insulting you back, lest they continue in this behaviour after thinking you are an easy target, to allied intervention to Hitler's aggression

> Most importantly, building on this twisted logic to say that to be wronged makes you immoral (by either unjustly ignoring evil, or through grudge and retaliation becoming evil), is not only hurtful to victims, but justifies a world that forever echoes and amplifies pain and evil. I steal from my enemy because he has done me wrong. I steal from you because my enemy has made me evil. All evil for everyone is justified.

Again, my interpretation of the authors views is not that the totality of every victim of injustice is themselves an example of moral failure, only in some. I think a strong case for this is in the two examples I gave above, where your retaliatory behaviour will act as deterrence towards the trangressor, barring them from further transgressions. When the aggressor perceives that you are constrained by a set of morals or behaviors that prevent you from retaliating to their aggression, then there is nothing stopping them from infringing on you further. Therefore in this case, I believe you have the responsibility to act in retaliation, and the charge of immorality could be reasonably levied against those who fail to do so.

"Perhaps the most significant implication of our result for deep learning is that it casts doubt on the common view that it works by automatically discovering new representations of the data, in contrast with other machine learning methods, which rely on predefined features (Bengio et al., 2013). As it turns out, deep learning also relies on such features, namely the gradients of a predefined function, and uses them for prediction via dot products in feature space, like other kernel machines."

Huh. So the implication here is that a deep network can never generalize results to inputs classes that were not explicit in the training set? And would this result apply for networks trained with something other than gradient based methods?

Re:The Paranoid Style in American Politics (1964) on Monday November 02, 2020 @05:25PM (#24974195)
Trumps identity politics is reactionary in nature, itself being developed as a right wing response to the dominance of left identity politics that have been slowly creeping into mainstream culture since Obama (although you can probably trace the roots to Clinton).
It should be obvious, if you are a supporter of democracy, that the right to free speech, expression and the right to not be dragged out of your house in the middle of the night and sent off to the Siberian gulags should be indispensable in any developed society today. All of these values form the foundational core from which a healthy society can thrive and grow and love (according to his definition of it in the article). Yet all of these qualities are sorely void in the Russian state today. In their place is a corrupt apparatus put in place by Putin and his underlings, with the intent of efficiently plundering and exploiting the country's assets for their own personal gain. Any resistance to this on going robbery are put down by a brutal, organized network of thugs with the full backing of "the state". This klepocratic system have the Russian people locked into a vice grip while their futures and their childrens futures are slowly bled out of them like blood from a giant leech. The young man decided to take a stand against this system, to speak out against their blatant corruption, fully accepting that he might lose some of the brightest years of his life locked up in a Russian jail cell. And what's even more impressive to me is that his resistance may very well be for naught, besides adding a name to a long list of dissidents that have been imprisoned/murdered for daring to speak out against the regime. Even being fully aware of these facts, he has chosen to stand for something that he believe is worth fighting for, consequence be damned. This act had taken more courage than anything that I've ever done in my entire life, combined.

And yet your take away from this article is he's a Jordan Peterson fan. Fucking LMAO.
