People think “brutal” needs to be like a YouTube clickbait video

It’s still rendering frames constantly, no? So it just figures the next X frames are all doing nothing?

I think we have to assume it was known for some time by at least some actors

Maybe beside the point, but um, yeah, nobody's going to sign up for a global ban on meat. It would cause civil wars.
Are you going to update your comment now that a retraction was issued? https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=50173029
You don't understand: https://x.com/alx/status/2112585386929397799

But also just look at the bottom-left of the image as is mentioned elsewhere in this comment thread: they didn't even bother to photoshop the entire image in their "debunk".

lol I didn't see that at all, wow they soooo poorly photoshopped this and then had their all friends in the media like Axios push their lies
And why wouldn't you question why they deleted the original lol
Nonsense, the google image search result clearly still has the linkage established. There's nothing fake about it.
It's from their own Facebook page, it's the Google Image Search results from their own page.
They’ll have potential to spread like prion disease
Or maybe Mars?

Because it's a terrible benchmark
Re:Make Tmux the OS on Saturday October 03, 2026 @02:33PM (#49946586)
No, that was just Apple and others realizing that (1) the file system needed some type of wrapper for security purposes, and (2) the move to the cloud didn't work very well with local file systems (they still don't... most of my data in the cloud isn't a "file").

There are some first-mover advantages when your country creates the system
Re:Grok 4.7 on Tuesday September 22, 2026 @07:43AM (#49799707)
How's any project you've ever done?
Re:Grok 4.7 on Tuesday September 22, 2026 @07:41AM (#49799693)
exactly, the benchmark just needs to be downvoted into oblivion each times it's posted. The outcome is not deterministic and the model needs to determine what level of detail is appropriate for an svg. There is no wrong answer to this unless it's obviously un-Pelican-like.
Re:Grok 4.7 on Monday September 21, 2026 @01:48PM (#49790706)
I think you're seeing a big shift around it.... since it's been markedly cheaper and also still easily available from OpenCode, it's getting large enterprise traction.
Re:Amiga Unix, Again on Monday September 21, 2026 @09:24AM (#49786989)
Hacker News is so annoying about this. It really feels like sour grapes that people are shipping cool projects without one of the Y Combinator-type software engineers blessing the project with their handwritten code.
Why are you assuming this is corruption?
Sooooo much of what is considered "code quality" today is irrelevant when robots are writing the code. We've been largely optimizing for things like composability/unit testability in the past 15 or so years, and that's primarily a human concern that's unrelated to the final output.

Totally agreed that we're not looking at the correct metric right now. Increasingly, code quality will be determined by outcomes.

Re:I'm Becoming AI-Blind on Friday August 21, 2026 @02:35PM (#49392193)
I'm not saying digest it, I'm saying be able to scan it/skim it/move on, but ignoring it won't help.

> There's some psychological mechanism by which my brain immediately recognizes AI generated text and just short-circuits to "there is no information here".

I think you need to self-correct here, because otherwise you'll be ineffective in an information setting, where I expect AI-generated resources will not only be the norm, they will absolutely swamp the environment.

Re:Working with AI Feels More Like Leadership Than Coding on Saturday August 15, 2026 @10:43AM (#49311008)
Delegation can still mean deep technical connection to the code, just without needing to write the code itself.
Does it matter? Why turn it into a popularity contest?
Re:Why do we assume everyone should be working? on Monday August 10, 2026 @03:54AM (#49240656)
That’s not a right-wing thought BTW. Publoc schools in Germany for instance are highly exclusionary.
That doesn't happen with a proper test suite. Give guardrails and it's not an issue.
> tons of duplication that lead to whack-a-mole

The future is duplication. Code is no longer meant to be read by humans but by machines.

This is an obvious next step tho? When I want news, I'll just ask Claude. Everything funnels to these providers?
