Threat actors are innovating and iterating on defense evasion at a rapid pace. The cat vs. mouse world of defense/evasion always favors attackers. Real-time scanning can potentially help identify and respond to bleeding edge defense evasion techniques and cut down attacker's time on systems.

For example, the reason Kaspersky was banned from the U.S. is because real-time scanning detected the malware the NSA had on a system. It was because they went public with their discovery that they faced this huge consequence as a company. As an aside, no U.S. antivirus company would have had the courage and ethics to go public with their discovery.

Anyways, it's a different game than it was decades ago. With advancements in AI, defense evasion will only accelerate and real-time scanning will only become more relevant.
