Re:Herdr has released native app on Thursday October 29, 2026 @11:24PM (#50299527)
feels like they're trying to get ahead of superlogical's rex.

took all of installing it on windows and setting up my mac as an SSH machine to see the slop all through the UI. i'll just wait for rex's windows client i guess.

i've seen phantom latency when enabling cache rules. by default cloudflare doesn't cache JSON responses, so you need a cache rule to have it respect Cache-Control headers.

my latency to US east is around 200ms. putting cloudflare in front of it has negligible cost. enabling a single cache rule on a specific path added anywhere from 300-600ms latency on every route, just completely untenable.

tried it again recently and it seems to be fixed, but it was pretty frustrating couple weeks trying to debug what was wrong in the first place.

makes me feel old recognising momo from the alteriwnet/fourdeltaone days
Re:GitHub's new dashboard experience now the default on Saturday October 03, 2026 @07:48AM (#49943409)
it's still so garbage though.. on a 4K display:

- only half the sidebar is being used, by the "top repositories" section

- i have my own agent and want copilot purged from view completely rather than being the first central item of the dashboard

- why is the changelog taking up 1/4 of the screen? move it to the navbar as a popover

- the content doesn't go full width so i'm losing a column or two worth of content

PRs and issues sections are the least worst parts of the dashboard and they're still worse than just using /notifications as a dashboard.

completely worthless.

Re:Sonnet 5.5 on Monday September 28, 2026 @03:21PM (#49883089)
they've already said in both the opus 5.5 and sonnet 5.5 blog posts that haiku 5.5 is coming
Re:Does Georgism Work? Five Years Later on Sunday September 27, 2026 @06:53AM (#49865520)
good thing we have a political party in NZ campaigning for LVT + UBI then!
personally, i would not rely on opus 5 end to end as it'll start getting into walls of comment slop and shitting up the codebase similar to gpt 5.5's isRecord meme.

on the other hand, having fable plan and orchestrate with opus implemention + fable reviews, is my go-to. if you give fable your guidelines up front or in your {claude, agents}.md, it will keep opus on a tight leash. opus can still write great code almost on par with fable, but it needs to be tightly constrained.

Re:Getting phpBB 1.4.4 working in Docker on Tuesday September 08, 2026 @11:47PM (#49620679)
vbulletin 3.8 was peak for me. the 4.x major broke a ton of mods so there was still a huge community sticking to 3.x. was a big fan of xenforo too, the default design was quite refreshing compared to vB and IPB
Re:Navier-Stokes – Tristan Buckmaster [pdf] on Tuesday September 08, 2026 @04:39AM (#49607416)
i already have an extremely low view of openai and their staff, but this is lower than i thought they'd go
Re:Ask HN: How do you manage skills files? on Monday September 07, 2026 @04:45AM (#49595719)
the only ones {i use, claude decides to use} regularly come with claude code plugins so they automatically update. i just define the marketplaces and plugins in my .claude/settings.json for the project.
Re:The ChatGPT/Codex app bundles a full copy of LibreOffice on Wednesday September 02, 2026 @04:52AM (#49533625)
which is really funny/sad when you see openai staff doing victory laps whenever claude code copies one or two small codex features like /goal.
another vercel labs thing that's been slopped together, hyped up on twitter and then left to be forgotten about in a few months time.
> Most of this article seems like... common sense?

i think you'd be surprised. every model release there's seemingly hordes of people who proclaim the new model is terrible and they're going back to the old one, and it all stems from people still prompting and having their configs setup like we're back in the sonnet 3.5 days

it's extremely enlightening seeing the difference in response to mythos vs. this. literally just the hello human resources meme
Re:GPT-5.6 on Thursday July 09, 2026 @04:15PM (#48851800)
recent gpts are horrendous for this, whereas recent claudes have a tic where they incessantly add useless comments referring to previous changes and will use multiple single-line comments instead of a standard multi-line docblock.
i already found his clear shilling of nextjs a bit distasteful, but his whole gpt-5 thing really just made it clear he's just not worth listening to.
Re:Claude Code Is Steganographically Marking Requests on Wednesday July 01, 2026 @02:00AM (#48742837)
openai staff on twitter are absolutely obsessed with claude and anthropic, just taking petty/dishonest shots and RTing the same, it's honestly embarrassing to watch
Re:Codex logging bug may write TBs to local SSDs on Monday June 22, 2026 @05:50PM (#48636713)

https://code.claude.com/docs/en/settings#available-settings

`cleanupPeriodDays` has always existed.

i moved all my AI coding over to claude code when claude 4 came out, but kept cursor for the tab complete. since opus 4.5 i haven't really needed the tab complete so i canceled my cursor sub 6 months ago.

switched back to vscode so i'm not exposed to the potential mess that is openvsx too. trying to get used to zed but i'm just so used to vscode

Re:Don't trust large context windows on Sunday June 14, 2026 @11:14AM (#48528039)
agreed. the claudes have been getting better and better with every release in this regard.

opus 4.5 would start failing tool calls when approaching its 200k limit, opus 4.6 could get to ~300k before getting confused, opus 4.7 i could stretch to around 400k the dumb zone started, with opus 4.8 i've had sessions get over 500k comfortably.

admittedly we only had limited time with fable, but i had a couple sessions get into 800-900k just fine.

Re:There is a shadow hanging over this Fable thing on Saturday June 13, 2026 @02:39AM (#48514102)
with how the admin is talking about taking a stake in openai, it's so incredibly clear this is the government attempting to kneecap an openai competitor
Re:WSL 2 is getting faster Windows file system access on Friday June 05, 2026 @05:48AM (#48410221)
as terrible as windows has gotten, i'm not switching my desktop to linux until it has perfect game + nvidia driver support, something that will probably never happen due to anti-cheat. until then, WSL is great.
i would gladly use claude code via the desktop app, but it lags behind the cli in terms of supported features, so i just don't bother. last i tried, it didn't support executing CC within WSL while desktop is running in windows.
Re:Anthropic acquires Stainless on Monday May 18, 2026 @06:40PM (#48186792)
if this is petty, then i'd love to know where openai employees having claude derangement syndrome sits on the petty scale
Re:From Supabase to Clerk to Better Auth on Wednesday May 06, 2026 @06:31PM (#48042765)
i'm currently in the process of evaluating switching our b2b app off clerk too. a customer asked for custom roles (diverging from our default set), which is technically possible on clerk now with role sets, but it's a bit of a workaround rather than first class.

thankfully i'm familiar with better auth from a side project, but migrating SSO/SCIM sounds like it might be a bit of a pain

i migrated to railway earlier in the year after being on vercel for 3 years. in those 3 years, i don't think i was affected by a single incident. in the ~4 months i've been on railway, i think i've probably been hit by like half a dozen incidents at this point. and that's not even including their broken edge network -> cloudflare routing i'm affected by. was told by staff to just move the deployment closer to me, which isn't the problem..

absolutely would not recommend

Re:SpaceX says it has agreement to acquire Cursor for $60B on Wednesday April 22, 2026 @07:25AM (#47862021)
yeah i just canceled my cursor sub and switched back to vscode. work pays for my claude max sub, no point paying for cursor anymore when i can just use openrouter every few months to test other models if i want
Re:Anatomy of the .claude/ Folder on Friday March 27, 2026 @10:30PM (#47550964)
at work i've spent some time setting up our claude.md files and curated the .claude directory with relevant tools such as linear, figma, sentry, LSP, browser testing. sensible stuff anyone using these tools would want, it all works pretty well.

my only machine-specific config is overriding haiku usage with sonnet in claude code. i outline what i want in linear, have claude synthesize into a plan and we iterate until we're both happy, then i let it rip. works great.

then one of my juniors goes and loads up things like "superpowers" and all sorts of stuff that's started littering his PRs. i'm just not convinced this ricing of agents materially improves anything.
