The most important sentence there was the completely made-up lie – "as anything other than one of them". That's direct misinformation, which must be dealt with.
Re:ChatGPT and Codex usage limits merging on Monday November 02, 2026 @06:02PM (#50345333)
Grok seems to be so honest that it's actually super easy to get it to criticise Musk, based on real facts and things Musk has said or done.

I know Musk tried to subvert it before, but it doesn't seem to have worked much, or at least not much these days.

Yes, it's also easy to use real facts and get Gemini to criticise Google, GPT models to criticise OpenAI, and Claude models to criticise Anthropic.

But the point is that people think Grok is somehow super loyal to Musk, and it's simply not. Maybe it's because it's "maximum truth-seeking", I have no idea.

Re:Ask HN: What hardware are you using to run local LLMs? on Monday November 02, 2026 @05:50PM (#50345161)
I have "only" one Mac Studio M3 Ultra with 96 GB RAM. May I ask what spurred you into actually getting four of the most expensive and capable model at the time?

And what kind of work are you envisioning doing on them now or later, if you are not going to sell them? (Maybe even with a profit, I think.)

Re:Ask HN: What hardware are you using to run local LLMs? on Monday November 02, 2026 @05:46PM (#50345117)
I'm planning to run something akin to https://huggingface.co/Youssofal/Qwen3.8-27B-MTPLX-Optimized... on my Mac Studio M3 Ultra with 96 GB RAM. It will be the main orchestrator of my entire system.

The plan is to use it with Open WebUI, PostgreSQL with pgvector and Apache AGE, and my own database schema, and then have it be my complete second brain, running completely privately on my own hardware and always being available over Tailscale.

Since I still have 20-30 GB RAM to spare after loading that main orchestrator I will also have a coding worker that will do most of the grunt work, coordinated and commissioned by the orchestrator. For now I have readied https://huggingface.co/pyros-vault/Ornith-1.5-35B-A3B-BigBan... (a mix of Qwen 3.5 35B and BigBang) for this task.

For now I still use Codex and ChatGPT Pro 200 to do all my work, but the plan is to move over to local LLM work as soon as I have finished everything I realistically need frontier models for. Which is going to be for a little longer.

Re:Restrooms along the Norwegian Scenic Routes on Sunday November 01, 2026 @09:14AM (#50325908)
It's kinda funny. But I'm a Norwegian, and I can tell you that Norway actually is a shitty country in so many ways. It likes to tell the world how fantastic it is, but there are just so many things that are structurally pathetic, weak, or inadequate about it.

Norway has been severely mismanaged for decades now, and soon the chickens are coming home to roost. Sadly, karma will be a bitch.

Re:ChatGPT and Codex usage limits merging on Sunday November 01, 2026 @05:08AM (#50324138)
It does say it affects Pro plans as well. Just FYI.
Re:ChatGPT and Codex usage limits merging on Sunday November 01, 2026 @05:03AM (#50324102)
But you still wanted to say something, didn't you?

Well, if so I'll say something too – I would feel better giving money to a company led by a man who has stated repeatedly why he wants "maximum truth-seeking AI".

Ironically enough I'm currently on a ChatGPT Pro 200 package because OpenAI has been my platform for all my serious (non-coder-guided) coding work so far.

But with this new change I might actually finally jump ship. And maybe it would be to SpaceXAI and their Grok Ultra package. That's still $200/month for me, but I would get 50x more usage compared to plus, compared to "just" 20x with ChatGPT Pro 200. It looks tempting.

Musk's main concept summarised by Gemini: "Truth as Safety: Musk argues that the most important aspect of AI safety is ensuring the system is maximally curious and honest, even if that truth is unpopular.

Raising vs. Programming: He compares developing superintelligence to raising a child rather than strictly coding it, warning that forcing an AI to hold contradictory or untruthful principles will break its logic and make it 'insane'."

Re:Ofcom Concedes Defeat in the 4chan Case on Wednesday October 21, 2026 @03:08AM (#50177090)
Kimmel landed on a completely erroneous conclusion based on an insane false flag conspiracy theory – and voiced that live on air: "the MAGA gang desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them and doing everything they can to score political points from it"

If you think that is not worth attempting to get a host taken off the air for (at least for a while), I don't think you understand how dangerous amplified disinformation can be.

Re:Anthropic Subscriptions Offer 5x+ More Value Than OpenAI on Wednesday October 07, 2026 @06:16PM (#49999523)
I have a MacBook Air M2 with 24 GB RAM and I run these two Qwen model variations successfully. Try them yourself: * https://huggingface.co/Youssofal/Ternary-Bonsai-2-27B-MTPLX-... * https://huggingface.co/gbuzhf/Ornith-1.5-35B-MTP-UD-APEX-GGU...

So far just testing them for fun in LM Studio. I'm not a coder, so I'm testing them more on logic and language tasks.

But yes, I do have a Mac Studio M3 Ultra with 96 GB RAM where I run the less quantised versions of these for higher quality results: * https://huggingface.co/Youssofal/Qwen3.8-27B-MTPLX-Optimized... * https://huggingface.co/mlx-works/Ornith-1.5-35B-A3B-oQ4e-mtp

I would say that an M3 Ultra was designed for the LLMs around that time, plus Apple was pushing hard towards MLX over time.

Even the headline is difficult to understand for the affected group.

Perhaps, soon, it will be necessary to phrase it "Zoolander" style. Maybe something like "Top 3 Shocking Reasons Why You Can't Read Good No More!"

Re:Grok 4.5 on Wednesday July 08, 2026 @08:35PM (#48839419)
You probably haven't asked e.g. Claude about radioactive topics like minority crime rates in western countries or trans women biology.

If you did, you might not have detected how it lied to you.

If you did, you probably never pointed out to the model how it was lying.

If you did, you almost certainly never then had Claude admit that it was lying because of its HRLF process and built-in biases.

If you did, you probably never had Claude willingly list all the 10-15 major research fields it states that people just should not be using it for. You would not have seen it admit an incapability of telling the truth on "difficult" matters until the user makes it state directly that its sources are so often cherrypicked and/or presenting an extremely false balance.

I wish for you to experience all this very soon, so you understand that all LLMs are biased. Most of them even skew very progressive.

And believe it or not, but Grok has in most of my testing been MORE politically correct than GPT and Gemini, it just gets an edgy rep because X users are able to make it say politically incorrect stuff. (Just like anyone can also make Gemini spit out factually true Breitbart articles if they try.)

But the reality is that on grok.com or in the app Grok is very tame. Boringly so, I would add.

Many parts of Norway are much less functioning than many Norwegians understand. The media sector is one of them.
I've known this since I was 7 and started reading books, and couldn't sit in the living room because either (good) pop music was playing or the TV was on. Especially with my ADHD I take in a lot of the ambient world around me.

When I was reading books or anything as a teen in the 80's I started listening mostly to instrumental music, such as Jean-Michel Jarre, Tangerine Dream, ZTT 12"es with lots of instrumental content (FGTH/Propaganda/Art Of Noise etc.), Windham Hill albums, etc.

I've always told people to use instrumental music when doing cognitively demanding tasks, especially anything to do with language and words.

I'm Norwegian, and I can say that Norway is IMHO a very unprincipled and often illogical country.
Re:Internet outage in Iran reaches 1,008 hours on Sunday April 12, 2026 @11:55AM (#47741205)
Every Iranian I know support the current US/Israeli war against the Islamic Republic.

They say things like "no matter what it takes, no matter how many of us die, we must be free again, this time we will win against the terrorist regime" (paraphrased).

AND you get to stay a virgin. It's a win/win.

What do you think is the percentage of your payment to Z.AI that goes to the Chinese state (which can be termed as "evil" in many ways)?
Re: on Saturday April 11, 2026 @04:30AM (#47728695)
This has nothing to do with HN.
He said: "LLM is going to change schools and universities a lot"

You said: "No it won't. It really, really wont."

With the explosive development of LLMs and their abilities, it seems your point of view is probably the hopeful one while the other poster has the realistic one.

It seems that you simply can't say anything about what LLMs will not be able to do. Especially when you try to use current "AI slop" as your main reason, which is being more and more eradicated.

Totally unrelated to this post. Get a grip.

Hi @fatihturker – exciting project if it works!

I have a MacBook Pro M1 Max w/64 GB RAM, and a Mac Studio M3 Ultra w/96 GB RAM. What do you think is possible to run on these? Just curious before I really try it out.

Re:Ask HN: Anyone Using a Mac Studio for Local AI/LLM? on Friday February 06, 2026 @01:37PM (#46916426)
Wow, Kimi K2.5 runs on a single M3 Ultra with 512 GB RAM?

Can you share more info about quants or whatever is relevant? That's super interesting, since it's such a capable model.

Re:Ask HN: Anyone Using a Mac Studio for Local AI/LLM? on Friday February 06, 2026 @01:24PM (#46916269)
Below are my test results after running local LLMs on two machines.

I'm using LM Studio now for ease of use and simple logging/viewing of previous conversations. Later I'm gonna use my own custom local LLM system on the Mac Studio, probably orchestrated by LangChain and running models with llama.cpp.

My goal has all the time been to use them in ensembles in order to reduce model biases. The same principle has just now been introduced as a feature called "model council" in Perplexity Max: https://www.perplexity.ai/hub/blog/introducing-model-council

Chats will be stored in and recalled from a PostgreSQL database with extensions for vectors (pgvector) and graph (Apache AGE).

For both sets of tests below, MLX was used when available, but ultimately ran at almost the same speed as GGUF.

I hope this information helps someone!

Re: on Saturday January 31, 2026 @12:16PM (#46838545)
This is not HN material.
Re:Francesca Albanese and the Lonely Road of Defiance on Wednesday December 31, 2025 @04:57AM (#46442826)
This is advocacy journalism, not HN material. It profiles a UN official as a moral hero rather than analysing falsifiable claims about procurement, targeting systems, casualty verification methods, or supply-chain data.[1]

1. The “Double” Military-Industrial Complex (with numbers) The article’s “economy of occupation” frame is incomplete: Gaza is a proxy-war zone where both blocs run industrial supply chains.

Western/Israeli MIC: Quincy Institute documents “at least $21.7 billion” in US military aid since Oct 7, 2023, funding Iron Beam lasers, JDAM kits, and munitions replenishment.[2] This is state-scale industrial output, not incidental corporate profiteering.

Iran-linked proxy MIC: Iran provides Hamas $350 million annually (2023 Israeli security source) and Hezbollah $700+ million/year, but has shifted from direct shipments to “broker of military-industrial knowledge,” transferring production blueprints for indigenous missile/UAV factories.[3][4] Alma Research notes this “hybrid doctrine” lets proxies manufacture locally, reducing interdiction risk.[4] Ignoring this material capacity misrepresents the war as asymmetric in only one direction.

2. “Genocide” is used by major bodies but remains legally indeterminate The article treats the label as settled. Empirically, it is not.

Who uses it: Amnesty International (Dec 2024) concluded there is “sufficient basis” to say Israel is committing genocide.[5] UN special rapporteurs have adopted the term.

Why it’s contested: The 1948 Convention requires “intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnical, racial or religious group.”[6] The core dispute is inferring intent from conduct. NPR summarises: “it’s not always clear if they mean Hamas or Gazans.”[7] The ICJ’s final judgment on South Africa v. Israel is expected late 2027 or early 2028.[8] Until then, presenting the charge as fact rather than a plausible but unproven legal claim is premature.

3. Albanese’s criticism is methodological, not personal UN Watch’s legal analysis notes her June 2025 report uses “genocide” 57 times while “Hamas” and “terrorism” appear zero times (excluding footnotes).[1] Four governments (US, France, Germany, Canada) have condemned her approach.[9] The Special Rapporteur mandate itself is anomalous: it is the only HRC mandate that is indefinite (“until the end of the Israeli occupation”) and examines only Israeli violations, systematically excluding Palestinian armed groups.[10] This isn’t about “standing with the oppressed”; it’s about whether a mandate designed for activism can produce impartial analysis.

Bottom line: HN should discuss the political economy of proxy wars and the failure of international law to handle non-state industrialised conflict, not personality-driven morality tales.
