That’s a distinction with only some difference.

“You can’t have a machine for testing” is a weird restriction on AI, especially if you entertain even the remotest notion of possible AGI.

1. Cross platform.

2. While browsers are pretty compatible nowadays, not having to deal with WebKit/Safari quirks is a plus.

3. The platform webview isn’t necessarily that much more efficient.

I'm curious for example configs that are top-level lists?

Bro it’s not so complicated.

I can get to more places in my car (or someone else’s).

It’s the 8th most popular airline in North America, behind Air Canada and Jet Blue.

To keep with the analogy, there are far more places you can feasibly drive to than walk to.

(And even more if you can combine them.)

"Only" is a massive amount of lifting in that sentance.

Network effects are among the most durable/effect competitive qualities. And they have that network on both sides.

77% of the U.S. 3rd party food delivery is DoorDash + Instacart.

(Nearly all of the remaining amount is Uber Eats.)

So if not a monopoly, then at least a duopoly.

As a rule, two-sided marketplaces are very difficult to disrupt.

“Overwhelming.” Eich made a modest donation to a ballot initiative, which got majority support by California btw.

But in any case, your point is “it was damaging the company, therefore it makes sense to see them gone.” And there’s your parallel.

In reality, whether corporate agnosticism is right depends almost exclusively on your feelings of the underlying cause.

Re:DoorDash to Acquire Instacart on Thursday October 29, 2026 @10:56AM (#50290155)
Brendan Eich was fired from Mozilla for a $1k political donation.

Corporatist hellhole was your reaction to that too I imagine.

* Technically resigned, but there was significant pressure from Mozilla.

Yeah, there are some strange expectations going into this.

Re:Leak website releases data on DHS employees on Thursday October 29, 2026 @10:49AM (#50290019)
Not anymore though.

(In fact, even a stiff fine, which is my point.)

?

The idea of the internet is that you can reach it across the world, globally.

If you did that in Europe you'd get fined 4% of annual turnover.

Wild how much basic practices have changed in 2 decades.

Re:StackOverflow now gets fewer than 1000 questions a month on Wednesday October 28, 2026 @08:21PM (#50282806)
The highly technical sites -- StackOverflow, Unix & Linux, MathOverflow -- see little use.

Others like SciFi & Fantasy and Worldbuilding have kept relevance.

Unfortunately, these more niche sites relied on StackOverflow to drive referral traffic, so the whole platform is declining.

As with many things, you pay for the atheistics.

I'm not sure of anything that fits the bill. Are you?

A small town would have less data.
So they’re busy.

They are designed to create responses that pass.

Randomness generators would fail horribly.

Whether he graded it, or his assistants graded it, I’m not really sure how that matters at all to the point.

Strangely, the article never posted what the request actually was.

There usually is a fee for the amount of information, or for the scope of the search, lest they get spammed for low value drive-bys.

If the request was “anything anywhere anytime related to X” they could be expensive (millions is incredulous, but expensive).

If the request was “last 9 months arrest records by X” that is more scoped.

The article never says.

As in, the email was misrouted?

Or simply it falls into no one’s job?

The latter is deliberate. The former, maybe.

I don’t think the parent would disagree.

But the PHP team is the one that got the security disclosure.

Re:PHP 8.2.35 on Wednesday October 21, 2026 @05:02PM (#50187574)
Because...that's what the PHP security team does?

No one needs to use their work, or indeed PHP at all.

But that's why the PHP security team exists.
