Interesting but 18 minutes long? Sheesh.
Re:Ask HN: How to Finish a Side Project? on Sunday July 10, 2022 @08:51PM (#32050928)
This is what worked for me:

Allocate a certain amount of time per day eg. 4 hours in my case. Regardless of what happens, do your absolute best to hit that amount of time daily. Whether that's researching problems, applying fixes, or just writing code, do as much as you can. I used a time tracking app, and this helped me push forward and get some of my side projects done and launched.

Good luck!

Here's yet another for old school runescape https://www.osrsguessr.com/
There's a fairly common method in most streaming software now to split out the audio into different feeds so that the music is streamed but not saved into VODs.
Re:Consumer Reports Security Planner (via Citizen Lab) on Friday December 17, 2021 @10:49PM (#29601428)
The actual link is https://securityplanner.consumerreports.org - www was added in there.
Not exactly strategy, but it'd be a disservice not to mention Zachtronics (EXAPUNKS, SHENZHEN I/O and TIS-100 are my personal favorites.)
IMO if you're not familiar with the story, this alone makes it worthy of deeper inspection:

"Would you like me to post the last modified times for all of the 35,813 emails? And include the Podesta email last modified times for comparison? Because the Podesta stuff was hacked."

Again, in my opinion, but there are major inconsistencies.

Re:Renowned scientist says Quantum Computing is a scam on Sunday May 24, 2020 @12:17PM (#23292524)
Renowned scientist is Craig Wright, of course.
Quite a nice idea, well done! Very minimalist and clean as well. Few pieces of feedback after playing with it for a few minutes-

Not sure if I'm getting unlucky or the results are cached but quite a few of the streamers who popped up were offline. Using the twitch api under the hood I assume?

Re:Ask HN: Why is Mac still easy to backdoor? on Tuesday January 21, 2020 @05:33PM (#22112446)
Physical access is (nearly) always game over.
This really rubs me the wrong way.

Please don't do this. There are entire classes of vulnerabilities that have come out and matured in the time since half of these were originally published by their authors.

Yes, I know you can find them if you do a little bit of digging, but curating a list and passing them off as 'safe' is disingenuous at best.

Re:Show HN: Browser MMORPG 7 years in the making on Wednesday January 01, 2020 @03:00PM (#21930180)
Congrats on shipping! Although I don't have time to play right now, a perusal of your rules has me scratching my head... why allow people to have alt accounts if they can't do anything with them besides level another character? Some of these rules seem really awkward for an mmo eg. having a moderator remove your ability to trade if they don't like the price? Come again?
Re:Disputed NSA Phone Program Is Shut Down, Aide Says on Tuesday March 05, 2019 @12:08AM (#19308240)
Yep, this carries just as much credence as "No sir, not wittingly."
The video in the article essentially shows nothing; the claim is "Google stole my coins."

Possible? Sure. Likely? No.

The corroboration with the two users from Reddit is useless because they didn't use a seed phrase.

edit/ To clarify: Yes, this is a stupid practice. You should be doing this locally or ideally not at all. But thinking Google is stealing your coins is a pretty big stretch.

Updates make using windows 10 AT ALL a pain.

I cannot vouch for "better" but there's also croustini.
Re:Activision Blizzard staff reportedly bracing for layoffs on Monday February 11, 2019 @12:24PM (#19136169)
A large portion of the people I've talked to over the past 5-6 years have the same sort of feelings about Blizzard games. It's no longer about balance and great game design. They're basically coasting on the reputation they had from the Starcraft / Warcraft era.

Keep it up, these are great!
Re:Tempe Police Release Video of Uber Accident on Wednesday March 21, 2018 @07:46PM (#16643622)
How is this video "better?" This is clearly somebody holding a camera recording a screen and seems to have much more artifacting and brightness changes.

Re:More Meltdown and Spectre Flaws Incoming on Thursday January 18, 2018 @04:21AM (#16175773)
I don't disagree about the headline but the tool comes from Steve Gibson of GRC/Security now, not from them.

Intelligence analyst, no knowledge or suspicion... uhhhh what?

Re:Ask HN: Is SteemIt a scam? on Sunday August 21, 2016 @02:40PM (#12332123)
This is also in the new queue right now: https://medium.com/@BlockByBlock/the-ugly-truth-behind-steem...

Seems pretty self explanatory.

I feel like this is a very naive way to look at this. As kpcyrd said, you're simply adding to their data, not 'corrupting' anything you've previously shared. If anything, you're sending up a big red flag from suddenly changing your gender, location, etc all at once.
Re:Do nice guys come second? on Friday July 29, 2016 @07:29AM (#12186112)
What ever happened to fail gracefully?
Why the scare quotes around modern? Maybe elaborate why you feel that way?
Re:SSD Failures in Datacenters on Wednesday July 06, 2016 @11:48PM (#12047385)
It's less opaque - there's an abstract, references/citations, etc. Also, I suspect I'm not the only one who doesn't want to be directly linked to things like PDFs that have a history of causing security issues.
