Re:Microsoft probably killed my Snapdragon Dev Kit on Wednesday January 07, 2026 @01:45AM (#46523329)
Tuxedo is a german company relabling Clevo Laptops so far, which work out-of-the-box pretty good (I might say perfect in some cases) on Linux. They have done ZILCH, NADA, absolute nothing for Linux, besides promoting it as a brand. So now they took a snapdragon laptop, installed linux and are disappointed by the performance....Great test, tremendous work! Asahi Linux showed if you put in the work you can have awesome performance.

God how I hate these arguments. You have this especially with Gimp. "But my beloved multibillion company worth product can do X sooo much better and easier. Also it has 16bit bla bla bla." You don't say?!?!?!? Any tips how to get a thicker skin, or it grows on you over the years ? Also, thanks for Ardour. I am a hobby cellist and record sometimes myself using Ardour and to cut down samples for an app I am working on. I tried doing that with my iPhone which worked like crap. Yup!

> Personally I'm a bit disappointed that it's based on Rockchip.

Why would you?

You mentioned Raspberry where, compared to the competition, you pay more for the name while they deliver even the same capabilities or more bang for the buck... Don't get me wrong. Huge Raspi fan here. I have 3 models laying around here, because they are the easiest to purchase. But the competition is not to be overlooked.

Also, aren't the compute modules strandarized or compatible? So it should be interchangeable, no?

Re:Nintendo announces the Switch 2 [video] on Friday January 17, 2025 @03:12AM (#42735196)
That was a pretty boring annoucement. Yeah its cool how the elements on the device appear, but it gets boring when this is shown for both sides of the attachebles controllers. They have the opportunity to show e.g. exclusive games which would now look and perform super duper on the new hardware, because of a better resolution opr maybe HDR, but nothing like that? Or a comparison of the old one with the new? I think its a bit thin...
Re:Why I Chose Common Lisp on Sunday January 12, 2025 @03:23AM (#42672082)
He cannot use Emacs and then goes to ... Vim ?!?! Nothing against Vim or Emacs, I love both but they had their time which is long gone. I am using Linux ans OSS technolgies since 95 and would have never imagined to advocate a MS product, but just use VS Code. It's awesome. VS Code managed to by-pass the qualitiy and amount of extensions/plugins in a fraction of time Emacs took decades.

Re:Embedding Scheme in Rust on Wednesday January 08, 2025 @06:38AM (#42633164)
Intresting. I know of two projects from the past where people used Gambit and Chicken and couldn't recommend it, because of the garbage collection. So the games runs, bullets fly, monsters move, etc... and at some point gc kicks in and you would notice a minimal halt or lag which for games is a big NO NO. Now that you mentioned a shmup, where a lot I going on, I am wondering how you or Chez handled that?
Can't that be run via browser on any OS which has an up-to-date browser? That was at least my impression...
what ?!?! NTFS has no case sensitivity no compression. And I guess a couple of more things I do not want to miss.
Re:Arvo Pärt's Journey on Friday September 13, 2024 @03:39AM (#41528904)
Fuck man. Didn't know about Gorecki's Symphony No. 3. I found a version with Beth Gibbons(Singer w. Portishead) singing in Polish?!?! Unbelievable goose bump symphony and performance. THANKS!
IIRC correct there is a speccy museum somewehre in West Portugal.
Re:Arvo Pärt's Journey on Wednesday September 11, 2024 @04:26AM (#41509296)
I would never have imagined to read something about him here. I absolutely love his 4th symphony "Los Angeles". And recently "In cantus memoriam Benjamin Britten" was used in a movie. He wrote that piece after learning about Benjamin Britten and being absolutely delighted by his work, only to then find out he passed away shortly before. What a fruitful friendship and cooperation this could have been....
Re:Apple Approves iDOS Emulator on Monday August 26, 2024 @05:41AM (#41355485)
This should be much higher up. Thanks! How about controllers? Playing Archimedean Dynasty with an 360 joypad would be pretty cool once Voodoo/GLIDE graphics is in.

Maybe op doesn't have a fenced area? Also I saw some chickens here in Germany getting lost from their flock roaming around.

Cannot tell much about the app itself as I just learned about it and has to see how it performs. However I wanted to comment on the buying process. You can pay any amount which you think is fair and get a download link. Later on you can donate more if you like. This is, for the Apple eco-system, really refreshring, and I very much miss this for iPhone Apps. I do not know how often I have installed and directly after de-installed apps because I cannot use them until I payed x bucks, which is completely rediculous because I do not know if the app will do or work in my setup / use-case.
Does that mean I could have rolled an OS for my n64 together with game? l
Is this country filtered? iOS->latest Update->not available in Germany...
Re:Descent: A classic 3-D first-person shooter (2012) on Friday April 12, 2024 @03:59AM (#40010358)
A few years ago Descent3 was modernized by Icculus(Ryan Gordon) to play on modern hardware running Linux and released thru Steam. The old version was unable to run on modern distros. The new released version uses SDL2 and runs nicely on modern hardware even the SteamDeck. Anyway it has some bugs which hopefully can be addressed if more people chime in. Find the bugtracker on github: https://github.com/icculus/descent3-bugs/issues
Not sure, but I guess americans do no use WhatApp much, because that works not prettz nicely with the iWatch, to express it constructivlzy. Also Spotify, connecting to AirPods is a hit and miss most of the time. I explicity bought the iWatch for above setup and purpose so that I can leave my phone e.g. in the gym locler when working out, and handling things via iWatch. Man was I wrong...

Is this really a benchmark someone would diffrenatiate buying options?

Re:Fedora Asahi Remix on Wednesday December 20, 2023 @04:31AM (#38706829)
So they ditched the Arch based distro to Fedora in favor off?!?!? How do we transition from the old distro to the new one?
Exaxctly. The one really big thing, at least for me, was making controller/joypad usage easy or more less hazle free. Before that, you had to do that manually which was a PITA
Why is R6RS Compliance labled as a core feature while elsewhere (e.g. Sketchy Scheme) labels R6RS as the death of Scheme?
Re:Whisky – Play Games on macOS with Game Porting Toolkit on Saturday September 16, 2023 @04:08AM (#37532933)
>Trust me, Game Porting Toolkit is worth it. That has to be proven.FPS ist not all. E.g.: 3 out of four games did not run (Bully, Fez, The Quarry) while Quake 2 (yay to the 20year celebration update) ran like hell.
Re:Whisky – Play Games on macOS with Game Porting Toolkit on Friday September 15, 2023 @06:03PM (#37529639)
No. You can even just install Whisky, this will tell you upon start it will not work unless running Sonoma. After updating to Sonoma whisky starts and checks for Rosetta and GPTK. For me GPTK was then pulled and you can then create a bottle. I added a Steam bottle, got the SteamSetup.exe and installed Steam. x
