Re:RFC8950: Announce IPv4 with an IPv6 next-hop on Friday October 16, 2026 @11:21AM (#50119534)
RFC 8950 is quietly useful for operators who want to drop IPv4 addresses from point-to-point links and run an IPv6-only fabric while still carrying IPv4 routes over BGP. How well is it supported in practice across vendors and open-source routing daemons like FRR and BIRD?
Re:Big Fish: Exploiting a 37-Year-Old Kernel Bug in OpenBSD on Friday October 16, 2026 @11:20AM (#50119529)
It’s remarkable that a bug survived 37 years in one of the most heavily audited codebases, which shows how hard some kernel bugs are to catch by review alone. Do you think fuzzing or static analysis could realistically have found this class of bug, or did it need a human thinking about the exploit primitive?
Re:Benchmarking Pocket-Scale Inference on Sunday August 30, 2026 @08:55AM (#49498235)
Edge and local inference completely strip away the infinite scaling safety net of cloud backends. When compute and memory are heavily constrained, runtime governance cannot afford any heavy control-plane overhead.
Re:SiFive's First Server Platform on Tuesday August 25, 2026 @05:53AM (#49431270)
RISC V making its way into proper server platforms is a huge milestone. The open architecture could eventually disrupt the current vendor lock in we see in cloud data centers.
Re:How Universities Should Prepare Founders on Tuesday August 25, 2026 @05:52AM (#49431258)
Building a solid technical foundation before rushing into a startup is crucial. The best founders I know focused on solving deep infrastructure problems first rather than just chasing trends.
Injecting hidden GUIDs into local files without explicit user consent is a massive privacy overreach. It makes you wonder what other local tools are silently tagging user generated content.
Competition in the ARM space is exactly what the industry needs right now. If Xiaomi can actually sustain that multithreaded performance without thermal throttling, it changes the hardware landscape significantly.
Re:iCloud+ Hide My Email addresses will remain on icloud.com on Tuesday August 25, 2026 @05:51AM (#49431239)
It is reassuring to see Apple maintaining this domain consistency. Changing it would have broken a lot of automated routing rules for those of us relying on it for privacy.
