Re:Ask HN: What did you have when you applied to YCombinator? on Wednesday February 09, 2011 @12:05AM (#2196438)
if you look at the history of those accepted, I dont think there is a formula.

Groups have been accepted with a prototype for one product and turned it into another.

Groups have been accepted with just an idea and nothing more

Group have been accepted with nothing except the group

It seems like acceptance into Y-combo is a mixture of several elements. I dont think you can rely on slick mockup or prototype just as much as you cant rely on 3 Harvard grads with nothing.

I'm looking to join as a co-founder in a biz develop / marketing / sales role. Currently submitted to YCombo for 2011 but willing to drop for an already established YCombo funded startup.

Contact info in my profile.

how many of you were personally interviewed or received follow up questions before acceptance or rejection?

Also, did anyone get accepted who didnt receive any follow up for the YC staff?

there is a great company based in Los Angeles that helps people find app developers. check out their website at www.appsnminded.com - its run by two stay at home mom's who have had a great deal of success developing and marketing iphone apps.
Re:Ask HN: So, what did you think of the Social Network? on Saturday October 02, 2010 @03:04AM (#1749957)
the opening credit score where Mark is running through Harvard was beautifully crafted. totally set the tone for the 1st half of the movie. Great electronic composition with sparse organic elements.

great scene in the movie and definitely the most "fincher-esq" part of the movie.

THe movie was scored fantastically as well.

Im not a tech person and I saw it the opposite way. I really wanted to paint my car red a few weeks ago but I dont have the tools, skills, or means to paint my car so I took it to someone who could.

No different from what entrepreneurs due to coders and vice versa.

If you truly feel this way, next time you have an idea pitch it yourself, sell it yourself, run the books, hire employees, etc.. I mean, if you REALLY wanted to do it, you would and teach yourself accounting, finance, and get a sales background....

The idea that you have to be all in and proficient in every aspect of your company is absolutely ludicrous.

I found the most interesting part to be when the author admitted to overlooking the idea that users might want instant gratification from a useable site. seems like in this day and age that would be the #1 priority of any company/website/startup.
