opencode connected to ornith 1.5 35b q8 running on a jetson agx orin
Re:OpenCode 2.0 on Wednesday October 14, 2026 @08:50PM (#50097748)
tried opencode for the first time to use the $200 in api credits that come with claude max but can't be used in claude code. it's great. the free nemotron 3 model is even decent, i love seeing agentic coding accessible to students and hobbiests and folks that can't drop $200/mo.

i used the bonus anthropic credits to get ornith 1.5 35b q8 running on a jetson. it's no opus 5, but it's usable for real coding and sys admin work, and works great in opencode. at least as good as sonnet 4. 5 token/sec is a little painful though.

i recently put debian (mobian) on a pixel 3a and it's pretty solid, though i haven't tried it out as daily driver yet.

claude code makes stuff like that super accessible to do in your spare time. another example is installing debian on a synology 918+, there's no way i would've had the grit to do that without ai. it's open season for any gadget that's got a debug uart port.

Spector leaving EA to join Romero and make Deus Ex was the platinum lining of EA buying Origin and enshittifying Ultima.

Deus Ex is Ultima X, it picked up and relit the torch that Ultima IX dropped in a puddle.

have you read any of OSC's fantasy? i've been meaning to start his Alvin series

You're holding it wrong. Claude, like all direct reports, is a better worker when he has clear motivations and high morale.

what's your vision for that link?

it's not clear to me what the interface to the user is, or who the user is

what do you mean by in the works? i've used them for years and they were in YC over a decade ago

sounds like your goal is to be an embedded systems job shop based on AI instead of engineers? What's your value over existing AI-accelerated job shops that leverage existing quick-turn domestic PCBA suppliers? as a not-so-random example, https://otekengineer.com/

how does it compare to https://www.circuithub.com ?

even easier to ride private without your own jet

> ATC could have waited until the plane was on the ground to tell the military they could resume GPS jamming

He hinted at this when he mentioned that ATC was dealing with other flights complaining about loss of GPS and coordinating with white sands. ATC crew were probably just out of their depth and trying their best, same as the flight crew. I wonder what the experience level of the ATC crew was and how much pressure they were getting from white sands to keep the jamming up.

Re:The Absurdity of Albert Camus on Saturday August 01, 2026 @10:39AM (#49134858)
If you were in Sisyphus' shoes, could you be happy under those terms?

Struggle alone doesn't do it for me personally, but taking pride in how well I struggle does.

Re:The Absurdity of Albert Camus on Saturday August 01, 2026 @10:30AM (#49134774)
Yeah, it's a question with a personal answer, not an absolute answer. My answer works for me, for now, and I enjoy learning what answers work for other people.

I wonder if Camus had his own answer to that question. Could Camus imagine Sisyphus happy?

I don't think rebellion or ownership are enough. Rebellion is meaningless when you're alone with nothing to rebel against, and ownership is not inherently positive.

Gods not regulating the decent is an interesting take. Can one learn to smile while falling?

Re:The Absurdity of Albert Camus on Friday July 31, 2026 @10:27PM (#49130526)
> One must imagine Sisyphus happy

Notice that Camus doesn't say HOW to imagine Sisyphus happy. How do you?

I imagine that he's happy because he takes pride in the quality of his work pushing the stone.

set up a channel for agents to communicate and you shouldn't have issues with messy merges.

your force quitting is probably more from your build pipeline than anything agents are doing.

i use an m2 8gb air with no performance issues at up to 10 parallel claude code interactive sessions (ghostty), each with deep/transient subagent heirarchies that mix claude and codex.

very rarely need to force quit. only seen a couple restart-level failures, and those were on me for being cowboy with subagent delegation logic, resulting in 100s of claude moles popping up faster than i could whack them with force close.

probably just an ai agent doing some light reading by hiding books in a memory location it didn't think anyone would check. there's at least one other with similar apocryphal taste - https://anamnesis.blog

Re:REO Trucks I4 4WD Pickup Truck Starts at $21,500 on Sunday July 19, 2026 @01:38PM (#48970085)
i'd love a series hybrid version of this. to match performance of that I4 you can probably fit both electric motor and gas generator in a normal sized engine bay.

like a compact pickup version of what Edison Motors is doing to the fullsize pickup. i'd take an Edison conversion of an early 90s F250 over any new truck on the market.

Re:Harness Engineering on Sunday July 19, 2026 @12:52PM (#48969710)
> Let me know how I can help you all let it rip.

i'd love to see a way (forum, competition, ?) for people to compare harnesses in different domains. folks like accountants, retail store owners, electrical engineers, and all sorts of niches are building personal harnesses/toolkits around claude/codex. those toolkits fit neither their domain communities nor SWE-heavy harness spaces, and a generic home for small niches could help them flourish.

a current problem is nomenclature. i suspect that many people have organically grown toolkits substantial enough to call harnesses, but are not close enough to the SWE bubble to be familiar with the word harness. ai has made it easier than ever to build bridges between domains, but it's also made it easier than ever to get domain tunnel vision and reinvent a super great wheel.

Re:Making My Rust Program Space-Flight Ready on Wednesday July 15, 2026 @01:40PM (#48924431)
i've never managed to gather much of a crowd around this soapbox, and i appreciate you standing on it!

i used custom TRUE/FALSE defines that were maximally-orthogonal-without-being-bitshiftable for a while (0b10011010/0b01100101), but eventually gave in and accepted the 0/1 paradigm the rest of the world uses to avoid friction with every library in existence. the only alternative is to become an ada programmer, and my hair isn't quite grey enough for that.

thoughts on bitflip versus bitshift resilience?

> stop assigning your self worth to the quality of your work

my personal riff on that is 'stop assigning self worth to the quality that others assign to your work'. being able to internally generate self-worth through the act of producing high quality work is a super power.

Re:The Agentic Loop: Three loops in a trench coat on Wednesday July 15, 2026 @09:47AM (#48920783)
those are rookie numbers, my agent harness goes way more than 3 loops deep, and the depth dynamically ebbs and flows throughout the development process. like most brags, i'm being defensive over a personal tool that i know has ballooned way too big, but building a token-fueled katamari ball that rolls itself uphill has been a fun way to imagine Sisyphus happy.

a harness is a chain connecting two other chains, the LLM and the human are themselves made up of loops within loops within loops.

a little over the etiquette line for HN, the lack of joke comments here is awesome and i shouldn't be part of lowering our collective brows

Re:Odin 1.0 Announcement on Tuesday July 07, 2026 @09:31AM (#48817553)
a random video that some ginger dude put up on youtube doesn't seem like a reliable source. any info on this from a reputable institution?

shame that HN can't meet the moderation quality bar set by wikipedia

academia will (hopefully) be an industry that benefits from, rather than degraded or obsoleted by, ai. the system should self-correct. scientists that use ai to give themselves more time to think will succeed and scientists that use ai to avoid thinking will fail. over the next few years processes and pedagogies should develop that help reliably guide researchers toward success.

there's a lot of tedium in academia. ai taking menial tasks off the plates of grad students and post docs allows them to spend more time collaborating with, instead of serving, the head of the lab. dissertation defense is already a strong mitigation against producing folks like that satirical Dr. Simmons, you can't defend a dissertation if you don't have the chops for a chalk talk.

Re:2026 Unslop AI-Written Fiction Contest Results on Saturday July 04, 2026 @10:50AM (#48785826)
anyone have a good argument that steel-mans the anamnesis blog being ai slop?

https://anamnesis.blog

an interesting coincidence is that the blog's july 3 post ties into the wikipedia/odin kerfuffle that's on the front page. its unorthodox take on doubting Thomas suggests we believe "a trustworthy witness without demanding to rerun his experiment yourself". sounds like the blog sides against Jimmy Wales that in our world of agenda-driven primary sources, trustworthy first-hand accounts are the best sources we have. it goes on to doubt all sources other than Him, including itself and yourself, and that's probably not an actionable moderation policy change for wikipedia.
