Re:Astra can read and write weights to improve Qwen on Monday November 02, 2026 @02:41PM (#50342521)
You acknowledge that you are working on something similar, yet refuse to elaborate and vaguepost...but there is enough information just from your post alone for a dedicated actor to attack you and extract such world-ending information ("world-ending" implied from your ominous reply). Would this not make you as naive as the team that published their findings?

I applaud the authors for sharing their findings and showing real results. Rather than write some bait I would find in an influencer-peddled tweet and allow rampant speculation. It would have been better for you to say nothing.

It still doesn't look anything like a death knell. There is a point where you approach market saturation and the growth curve follows a sigmoid. Have you ever tried folding a piece of paper ten times?
> I'm an agentic engineer with an emphasis in software engineering

This is odd. You wouldn't consider yourself a software engineer with an emphasis in...agentic engineering, or something like that? What is your background?

Re:The Mythical Man-Month in the Age of AI on Wednesday October 28, 2026 @01:50PM (#50277893)
Making end users happy is a side effect. My own well being comes first.

You postulated this in another reply to me so I'll say here, why would I seek to make end users happy and work myself to the bone when leadership reaps the awards?

Even with salary negotiation there is almost no commensurate compensation you get under any employer that matches the value you bring to the company. That's how it's designed of course, by taking a base wage you trade off the risk of your income stream suddenly failing.

I am at that point now where that risk does not seem so scary anymore, which is odd to me. I never thought I'd consider taking the risk before. And I am learning that founders are usually driven by the feeling that I have.

Just because I am not happy with my employment situation doesn't mean I don't care about tech. I am privileged to even say that my job hasn't sucked all the joy out of building projects outside of work. None of this is a prerequisite for me ranting :)

>"don't bother me with shit, just pay me a salary"

Well I'll admit this is me. Albeit previously I would have to generate working solutions meticulously to get my code reviewed and merged, as is normal. And it would be good work I could be proud of because _I_ wrote it!

But now the same people who would scrutinize me also outpace me with agents (the good developers you refer to) and also continue to scrutinize me. I recognize my own mediocrity in the face of my peers. So I don't know, I don't really care about my work quality anymore, the incentive of "do enough to put bread on the table" is now a much higher bar that I am struggling to meet.

This year has made me realize salary work really isn't a proper incentive to fully apply myself because being stuck under these guardrails and leadership decisions are a huge turn off. More than ever.

It would be improved if he appended "make no mistakes".

Would you really compare a Kindle to a full fledged tablet with endless video and addictive games? I think you are being hard on yourself.
+1 to the RX 7900 XTX and also the RX 7900 XT model (20gb), much more affordable if you're trying to dip your toes into localgen
Re:eMudhra to Exit Global SSL/TLS Certificate Business on Thursday October 22, 2026 @11:53AM (#50197120)
It's more than I'm not encouraging to engage with OP's point because he just wants to be a bigot. But that is separate from India having a shame based culture.
Re:Claude Duet on Wednesday October 21, 2026 @03:29PM (#50186261)
Shame I had to vouch you, I agree with you. Arguably those insights are just used to train models and profit off you as well. To a lesser extent this information can be captured by paying API prices to any provider. So ultimately if your threat model has no tolerance for this you need to go fully local. Models that run on 24gb VRAM are...useable now, but will not have the capabilities of these hosted products. So depends where your values lie.

Right but not most people as I said.
Re:Apple broke an essential presentation feature of iPads on Tuesday October 20, 2026 @10:07AM (#50166685)
Perhaps "real computer" means being able to perform general purpose tasks. I don't think iPads are capable of that with how locked down they are.

I do believe them to be computers that excel in specialized settings. Like in your two examples.

Re:An ad-free Android TV on Tuesday October 20, 2026 @03:40AM (#50162607)
Thank you for your ancedote. I think OP is emphasizing that no, most people would give a shit because most people can't spend 1k on a panel.
Re:Who Is Planting Backdoors in Ledger Crypto Wallets? on Wednesday October 14, 2026 @08:04AM (#50086346)
This is why the assertion that crypto allows you and you alone to control your capital is a fallacy. Depends on your threat model of course...
Re:Why Texas Is Making Data Centers Wait on Sunday October 11, 2026 @12:25PM (#50044918)
Maybe if HN's favorite bad guy said the quiet part out loud about exploring space compute to avoid regulation...instead of making bombastic claims about possible technical efficacy. I'm not really interested in giving credit to leaders that lie about their motives. Note the blog you linked doesn't mention this either.
Re:I paid people to try and follow my README on Sunday October 11, 2026 @08:49AM (#50042766)
>From those who say "the source code explains everything"

Because theoretically you should be able to describe not only your entire application logic, but upper and lower bounds of inputs as well. Good code would describe this inherently.

Documentation is only useful when a) the application is not source available, so you have no choice, b) you want to save a human developer time for them to understand your code, or c) you want to use documentation as a cache hit for agent use (less token spend)

Right...so best interview process in the game for employers, not so much employees.

This is very curious to me. When you resolve a domain for the first time, does your resolver look up this kind of metadata for the domain before completing resolution?
Re:Worth Building on Monday October 05, 2026 @08:11PM (#49972511)
It is partially the result from chilling effects of hosting AI generated code on your public portfolio. Not worth the ire.

No because you likely do not drench yourself in hubris daily.
Re:Pi 1.0 on Thursday October 01, 2026 @08:03PM (#49928427)
I am wondering what use people get out of this. What I like about pi is that, using proprietary harnesses to begin with, I already somewhat know what kind of features I use and features I wish I could use. Asking pi to self modify itself (with a smart enough model) is a one time cost for a fully vetted feature that I personally approve. Do users of OMP find all of its additions useful?
>He's never going to be hired as CEO by anybody for the rest of his career

I'd eat my shorts if this was true. But even then he is likely set for life with his wealth, pre Meta offer.

Re:Jev in 25 Lines of Python on Wednesday September 23, 2026 @07:59AM (#49814756)
Oh, I thought it was some weird branding thing. So then I looked it up.

"System One" and "System Two" were coined in some pop science book...so back to its usage being a marketing ploy.

For anyone who was piqued by the title but couldn't stomach the unedited LLM blogpost, you can read the similarity AI-genned docs for Laya directly: https://github.com/NandhaKishorM/laya
Re:The Economics of Open-Weight Inference on Tuesday September 22, 2026 @02:19PM (#49805809)
It was a breath of fresh air for me because it was nice going to a model that is "smart enough".

>The trillion dollar question is how you do this, if your employees do not care (they are optimising for salary & time spent not code quality)

Sounds like there is a compensation problem then.

You definitely need more RAM if you are not satisfied with small context windows, especially if the weights take a large % of the total memory to boot.
Is it that silly? You could run multiple 27B models in parallel.
