Imagine you cooked something great, a deliciously tender cake or something. I ask you if I can try some, you say sure, cut off a little piece for me, then you drop it and tell I can have it on the floor. That is what AI is doing for writing. Why should I care how the cake would taste, if I don't like eating on the floor?
Re:I Hate Cookie Consent on Monday October 26, 2026 @04:33PM (#50250510)
First, please see [1].

Second, yes, I did. The first two sentences of the article are:

  > I hate cookie banners. And I hate them even more when the sites showing them don't obey them.
Notice "And". While I agree that hating cookie banners in general was not the main topic of the article, it was an independent statement. Which I commented on.

Re:I Hate Cookie Consent on Monday October 26, 2026 @02:18PM (#50248425)

  > I hate cookie banners.
Shows a cookie banner.

Did you know that if you don't use cookies (or other persistent tokens) for ads and tracking, you don't need to show the banner? So maybe direct your hate to website owners? And yourself.

Hey, it's not the size that matters, it's how you use it!
I guess this is submitted because of https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=50154624 ?

- Cloudflare

  > given the rate at which models are improving
Right. https://xkcd.com/605/

  > in 3 to 5 years software development could be fully automated.
Yes, and as we all know, AI has replaced software engineers "in 6 months" several times by now.

Which LLM did you use?
Re:Tiny Little Office on Thursday October 15, 2026 @06:11AM (#50101564)
Not a luddite, it's just allergy to slop, that's normal.
Re:AI coding agents generate more code, but not more software on Tuesday October 13, 2026 @08:31AM (#50070636)
I have, yes.

I don't reject AI in development. I reject garbage and attempts to mislead people.

The link is a piece of crap wrapped in candy packaging, able to fool anyone who couldn't be bothered to unwrap the candy. DOA slop. It has nothing to do with either art or craft. This is actually a perfect example why agents' code cannot be trusted.
Re:Discover vibe-coded alternatives to popular software on Monday October 12, 2026 @12:08PM (#50058455)

  > Does the label "vibe-coded" even make sense
Yes.

  > if even in major organizations most of the code is written by LLM-based agents?
Then it just means that these major organizations are vibe-coding.
Re:Secret of Orange Cats Revealed After 60-Year Search on Monday October 12, 2026 @08:44AM (#50055627)
Many places outside the US call them orange as well.
Re:Doory – Open-Source Canva on Monday October 12, 2026 @08:33AM (#50055498)

  > nobody can commit to, change, or meaningfully adjust this repository while adhering to its license
As if someone wanted.
I'm sorry, I have a hard time understanding you. Correct me if I'm wrong, are you saying that

1. paying an illustrator is non-economically-viable for 99% of homelabbers? and

2. AI would have done it at an equivalent quality level?

Oh, I bet he doesn't. I wouldn't touch anything he's working on even with a mile-long pole.
Re:A Map of Every Lighthouse on the Planet on Monday October 05, 2026 @06:06AM (#49962864)
You suspect? It reeks of AI.
Re:Show HN: A working 3D model of an Enigma machine on Wednesday September 30, 2026 @04:15AM (#49905927)
I don't follow. How is a polite question if the code can be shared (not even a request to share the code), freeloading entitlement?
The Shuffle button is in the worst possible place (the top right corner of the page) :/
Re:Resist "AI" on Friday September 11, 2026 @07:40AM (#49656741)
What I hate the most is people vomiting AI slop communicating with others. I have teammates who decided that an agent producing a wall of text summarizing changes in a pull request instead of a simple "LGTM" is a good idea. I have teammates who talk using AI almost exclusively (you can see a small tag "Sent using Claude" or "Sent using Cursor" under their messages)
Re:Usbsid-Pico: Bridging Real Commodore 64 Sound to Modern USB on Monday September 07, 2026 @02:12PM (#49601207)
It's MCP23S17 - I just had it at hand :)
I wish we could stay on topic. Every time a submission is about Windows, 90% of comments are either:

- "how is it surprising that Windows is bad? [unrelated story]"

- "linux linux linux switch to linux"

Not sure either but I got the ad today. Previous wallpapers match what I see on bingwalls, but not the today's.
Re:Usbsid-Pico: Bridging Real Commodore 64 Sound to Modern USB on Friday September 04, 2026 @02:36PM (#49568438)
I did make it play one pre-uploaded track, then I started to think about all the improvements I could make, like reading an SD card, adding a display with a menu, control buttons, a web interface to drag-and-drop and play tracks, etc. Basically, analysis paralysis. I'm still learning how not to do that to myself.

Here it is, biding its time :) https://imgur.com/a/vvHpyS8

Lmao, this is a good one!

> Here's a picture of my cat :-)

Come on, this is cheating! Okay, fine, here's my upvote :-P

Awesome post, thanks for sharing your journey. I was making a similar project but I put it aside and didn't finish it. I couldn't get any real SID chip as they cost a small fortune each, even if you can find one for purchase. I bought [1] as sort of a replacement. The sound was quite nice.

Uhm... a (g)zip - yes, but a sqlitedb inside - no, not that often, in my experience.
To me it reeks of Claude. The same yellow/brown tint.

But I might be wrong:

> We changed the entire theme to a warm colour palette because my family preferred it,

https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=49535933

From the README.md:

> Manages household tasks, shopping lists, notes, prayer times, and birthdays from a single shared display.

So what does it *operate* exactly?

> No need to be pedantic

When people misuse words, we get Cloudflare-style marketing BS. Can we be better than big corps?

This is a typical clickbait title
