Re:Write like you talk on Monday October 26, 2015 @05:15AM (#10450232)
I would say this is true, because whenever i read a PG essay, i think of his voice, thinking his talks. His uniqe voice, tonality and speed of spoken language into his writings, which in turn helps me to better understand what he syas. I always wanted to hear PG essays from his voice. Like an Audible for PG essays.
Re:Graph of Foursquare's Popularity After Removing Check-Ins on Wednesday April 15, 2015 @07:09AM (#9380109)
Using Google Trends as an indicator of success or failure is pointless. Companies morph, they disrupt themselves and change their core business occasionally.
Re:Re: Facebook acquires Oculus, a letter of concern on Sunday March 30, 2014 @01:20AM (#7495324)
Exactly, lots of emotional arguments. For the ecosystem argument i would like remind that there are IPO scale companies emerge from FB ecosystem. This post have lots of 'what ifs' type of arguments. I am not for or against FB, its just kind of Bezos acquisition of Washington Post: lots of hard to figure it out.
Re:Google Reader shutting down on Wednesday March 13, 2013 @08:14PM (#5372150)
I have thousands of websites inside Google Reader which serves me as a personal sub-internet. With archive and quick search within feeds was so much valuable for me. It was the only service of Google that i use second only to Gmail.

I think they made a quick short headed cost analysis in this, that archive and search functionality needs server power. Actual userbase does not provide enough money juice to balance.

Now, let the alternatives pour in.

Re:Chromebox on Thursday May 31, 2012 @04:08AM (#4046935)
Majority of these mini PC's used in conference or meeting rooms, as an easy way to hook up PC with TV. However, next month when Apple announce to open Apple TV as an development platform, there will be an interesting convergence of mini Pc's and tv boxes. Which will probably lead to long rumored Apple TV box.

You don't know what this Chrome box do because Google doesn't know either. Companies threw hardware and see what developers can do, and see where it evolves.

Re:Apple announces Mac OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion on Thursday February 16, 2012 @12:00PM (#3599547)
thanks, didn't know this one. If only it could play burned dvd's like ISO files.

Still, VLC integration is a must. With no compromise.

Re:Apple announces Mac OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion on Thursday February 16, 2012 @11:58AM (#3599537)
I already have Perian. It's not supported well imho. Just try to open a 8gb mkv and it broke QT.
Re:Apple announces Mac OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion on Thursday February 16, 2012 @10:28AM (#3599042)
I am excited as well in AirPlay Mirroring so i watched several times in the demo. It seems video plays with Quicktime. So lot's of video formats are not compatible like mkv's, iso's etc...

If somehow i am able to mirror VLC i will run and buy Apple TV at once.

My question is why black box data is not uploaded to a central server while flying? Is it because of its huge size?
Re:Steve Jobs brainstorms with the NeXT team on Monday November 21, 2011 @03:05AM (#3260400)
Another figure is (if i'm not mistaken) Mac UI & Icon designer Susan Kare whom stands next to Paul Rand. She has a distinct smile. She seems a bit quite enthusiastic being next to a legendary designer. I bet she is the only one, other than Jobs, who knows the importance of the visitor.
Re:The relationship between Readability and Instapaper on Thursday November 17, 2011 @02:50AM (#3246841)
Last time i use Readability it was too slow and stop using it. Original idea one was instant. So i use Readable most of the time. And sometimes i combine (Instapaper Text + Safari Read list). Speed is important, other features are secondary.
Re:SEO tricks from Patio11 on Wednesday November 09, 2011 @07:58AM (#3215297)
I agree with Schema.org. Use that extensively in your website. You get more pixel space in Google SERP's by microformatting your content.
Re:Apple's 1978 office floor plan on Thursday November 03, 2011 @06:45PM (#3194025)
It's because Woz always wanted to stay as an engineer, not as a manager. That's why Jobs and Markkula is one place while Woz near the software team.
Your address book become the most valuable asset in this social web era.
Re:Google to default to SSL version for logged in users on Tuesday October 18, 2011 @03:38PM (#3126760)
May be google make an incentive for users to sign-in for increasing Google+ usage.

May be they are pushing Adwords channel by saying: "look you can arrange your campaigns in keyword level."

It's interesting to see this decision while they are improving Google Analytics very much lately. Maybe they will monetize by subscription model.

Re:It's not too late to learn how to code on Monday October 17, 2011 @06:01AM (#3119861)
I think most of the anxiety comes from expecting the results very fast. In this fast pace lifestyle, reaching a goal, like learning a programming language is not a craftsmanship challenge but a huge motivational and focusing challenge.
I wonder how apple related sites spoil most of the book content before it arrive at my door.

Re:Istanbul Isiklarius traffic lights on Monday August 08, 2011 @03:40AM (#2859168)
Well, last year not an inch of snow dropped in city. That short periods of snow times had long passed since the population of the city doubled in last 20 years.
Re:Istanbul Isiklarius traffic lights on Monday August 08, 2011 @03:37AM (#2859163)
Once a book on chaos theory started the topic by describing the traffic in Istanbul.

If you are able to drive in Istanbul, you can drive in everywhere.

Re:How The Hell Is This My Fault? on Saturday July 30, 2011 @07:07AM (#2825495)
Sometime ago i watched a video, a panel directed by Arrington and said to myself "how could PG like this guy"(i see the Arrington way) because PG said this several times. TC really supportive and give good reviews for Ycom startups so its normal to say that i think.

But for this event TC is a bit prolonging the situation. Why not talking millions of happy transactions instead of a unlucky bad one? In 2011 bad news still sells.

Re:Poll: Do you use Google Reader on a daily basis? on Tuesday July 26, 2011 @03:55AM (#2806444)
Yes. Google Reader is my bookmark manager in cloud.
Agree with you and made my comment couple of days ago in here : http://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=2753996

Idea is good, they only need users.

It's really hard to estimate how a product to be successful in Silicon Valley. Take Google+ example, what's so novel about it? Nothing, i must say. Twitter integrated with Disqus by your address book. But first they get good reviews, and use old tactic of invitation only system like gmail.

As a weak social creature myself, i find the Color app idea very interesting. I eager to find someone take photo in the place i am in. I constantly open and refresh if someone took but none i find. Why nobody is using it? I remember once showing the app and its idea behind to my friend and he also find it very curios and love it. But where are the users?

Press takes what it wants, don't rely on them. They may interest in your investment or office furniture or whatever they want. Press might dumb your app almost instantly, but you have to respond to criticism very early. However, i see no app updated since months i guess.

Here is the road map for a loving user: bucket all criticisms that made to Color. prioritize according to who made them, their power in press/social media. change UI, revamp and go to real events. go to all Geek conferences after parties, music festivals and shout your app. This app needs on the ground fight not online tech bloggers.
