Re:F-Zero X on Nintendo 3DS on Monday October 26, 2026 @04:43PM (#50250643)
The poster referred to themselves as the author. They created it, which is good enough for me.
Re:Switzerland. Block by block. At 1:1 scale on Monday October 26, 2026 @11:23AM (#50245337)
I don't feel there's that much of a difference. It certainly isn't "awful" to me.
Re:Switzerland. Block by block. At 1:1 scale on Monday October 26, 2026 @11:02AM (#50244976)
I don't think there's anything wrong with this website, just some people hate slop.
Re:F-Zero X on Nintendo 3DS on Monday October 26, 2026 @10:23AM (#50244242)
You're coming across as rather unkind in this thread and it does the project that you mentioned that you are working on a disservice.
Re:Switzerland. Block by block. At 1:1 scale on Monday October 26, 2026 @09:18AM (#50243122)
Don't bother commenting if you aren't going to engage people who disagree with you.
Re:Switzerland. Block by block. At 1:1 scale on Monday October 26, 2026 @09:11AM (#50243027)
Why bother commenting at all if you are just going to act in bad faith?

I'm asking genuine questions and you don't have answers.

Re:Switzerland. Block by block. At 1:1 scale on Monday October 26, 2026 @09:09AM (#50242996)
Ok, and they created something new to do that. Why is that bad? HN is content marketing for YC but you still use it.

What commons are they exploiting?

Re:Switzerland. Block by block. At 1:1 scale on Monday October 26, 2026 @09:06AM (#50242959)
> The whole magic of someone doing this is someone doing this.

Somebody did do this. They used a tool and created something which did not previously exist.

> there is no utility in it either. No one needs a 1:1 scale Minecraft map of Switzerland for anything.

There isn't any utility for a lot of stuff but we do things for various reasons.

Is the author did this purely out of curiosity or for fun, is it bad because it wasn't done painfully.

> empty husk of an idea implemented in a way that shows lack of understanding why this niche of content existed in the first place

It's implemented that way because that is the point, to show it is possible. These kind of responses always come off as gatekeeping. Somebody created something new and it is a bad thing?

IRC didn't and hasn't meaningfully evolved the features Discord has, which is why people use Discord.

You're getting downvoted probably because it isn't a serious suggestion. IRC is missing features and you don't have a meaningful reason to make it illegal.

For the record, I use IRC.

Re:Anthropic's Public Benefit Charter on Wednesday October 21, 2026 @04:27PM (#50187148)
They have to decide what "human values" their model is going to be adapted towards. Ultimately, they have to decide that, even if they choose an outside source. How else are they supposed to do it?
Re:Anthropic's Public Benefit Charter on Wednesday October 21, 2026 @04:19PM (#50187048)
I don't understand. Human values are not universal, don't they have to be the arbiter? Isn't that all that statement is saying?
> Your comments in other threads suggest an devotion to the frontier labs.

I don't use these models much I just don't like unfair criticism.

> In another thread when I suggested they lied to investors and that constitutes securities fraud you questioned it in an overly dismissive manner.

I'm confused, are you posting under two identities?

The user Frieren claimed that this post constituted securities fraud. To which I responded: "You're claiming this is securities fraud?"

Is that dismissive? It was a genuine question, I don't get how it's even accurate say that they are lying in the post and I especially don't get how it is securities fraud.

Your post doesn't have anything to do with the blogpost. Once again, I'm not against criticism just unfair/weak criticism. I don't think it helps anything.

Why are you framing it like this? Did they create this vuln and how did they force people to pay for a fix?
The conspiracy theory is suggesting this is part of a larger strategy. I'm just saying it's a big enough company with a wide enough range of beliefs that I find it pretty likely that the direct motives for this weren't to enable regulatory capture.

But they could be, that's why it's a conspiracy theory.

Damned if you do, damned if you don't. Do you prefer they not engage in helping finding vulns at all? Do you not think there are parts of the company interested in security and doing it for the sake of that?

I feel like taking every action these companies take as part of some larger strategy is kind of conspiracy-minded.

> Calif identified a critical flaw using GPT‑5.6 Sol as part of our Patch the Planet (opens in a new window) initiative

> 19–24 August 2026: Wiz Research independently collides with the same bug family using Wiz Atlas, Gemini 4 Argon, and GPT-5.6 Sol, reporting its variants on 24 August.

I again ask how they are lying? I get if people hate these companies, but blatantly disregarding what is said helps nobody.

They aren't lying, they are saying their tool was used in the process of finding this bug. Was it not?
You're claiming this is securities fraud?
To be pedantic, would that not be marketing?

To be further pedantic, is that really stealing? They are disregarding copyright but was anything taken from anybody? I thought that was the old argument for piracy, ie, nobody was deprived of anything.

How is South Korea's very low birth rate about not having enough of the "right" people? Perhaps they could allow mass immigration to fix it but that would destroy the culture. The issue is happening everywhere, how is it racist?
It's just "The Wiener Slinger" in psuedo-German. The article mentions its origins.
Re:It's still OK to enjoy programming on Monday October 19, 2026 @03:59PM (#50157288)
I would say that it opens up art to a wider audience. Despite the lack of effort, they're still creating something.

Where this becomes even more of an issue is imagine somebody spends substantial time with these tools to create something - editing the output of vid models for example. Some would say that's not art but at the end of the day it is just using a tool.

Re:It's still OK to enjoy programming on Monday October 19, 2026 @03:35PM (#50156992)
You just come across as bitter.
Re:It's still OK to enjoy programming on Monday October 19, 2026 @03:33PM (#50156957)
You are gatekeeping though. The poster you're being disparaging to has created something new, they are producing art even if it doesn't meet your standards.
Re:It's still OK to enjoy programming on Monday October 19, 2026 @02:58PM (#50156456)
The person you responded to seems pretty content, saying it sucks is you projecting.
Re:It's still OK to enjoy programming on Monday October 19, 2026 @02:54PM (#50156385)
I don't know that it's a lie. The code that I can get Claude Sonnet to produce is pretty much what I would and that's two iterations behind. We've vibecoded scripts recently that genuinely are better than what I would have written and I don't think I'm terrible.

There are a lot of mediocre programmers aren't there, I wouldn't be surprised if on average Claude is doing better than what exists. It's not a "lie", anyways, just a point of view.

Re:US report details extent of 'devastating' dating-app scams on Wednesday October 14, 2026 @02:07PM (#50092190)
Why would you send somebody that much money?
Was the flight out of the cities to "preserve apartheid" or did many people simply want the suburban lifestyle with a yard and bigger house?

I don't thin racism was the dominant factor for people moving out of the cities. Today the suburb I'm in is packed with immigrants.

Regardless, I don't think you're being very charitable.

That's eating at an expensive place. I paid $60 for two at a local restaurant last week, that's including an appetizer.

Psychosis has a meaning, use a different term.
