Tell that to all of the HS players who have gotten concussions playing football. I struggle to think of anyone I know who didn't get at least one concussion playing HS football.
There is at the elite level.† Kids games, not so much.

Yes, we take tackle football off the table for HS athletes and below. And then replace it with flag football. It's cheaper for the school, safer for the kids and has the benefit of being more coed friendly (a necessity for small schools that struggle to find enough players).

Soccer is addressing the concussion issue by banning headers. I think the current rule is no headers for U12s and below. That will probably be adjusted upwards to U14s at some point.

Peak demand is mostly covered using a home battery. You can then refill the battery overnight when rates and overall demand on the grid are lower.

Smoothing out household demand on the grid is the future.

Is there oil underneath or will this be a good place to build a datacenter? This is obviously intentional. The foreclosed properties will be sold for the price of the debt, probably back to the developer.

"In summary, men’s advantage in strength tends to show over short distances, while women’s endurance appears advantageous over longer distances. The extent of these differences, however, varies by sport and by course type (LCM vs. SCM vs. SCY)."

edit: Also, look at the graphs in the swim link. The trend lines clearly show there's a distance where the difference will reach 0% and guess what happens after!

Re:The Fall of Scientific American on Monday October 26, 2026 @11:23AM (#50245325)
The difference doesn't just decrease, it inverts. Where that inversion threshold exists I assume varies from sport to sport and is probably worthy of a few different doctoral dissertations.

Boy, you sure picked the wrong category. It's women who are better at endurance events.† Men have an advantage in power events.

That is incorrect. Japan has a 99% criminal justice conviction rate because of so many plea deals.

For reference, Subaru had "plans" to release an EV car back in 2005. Let's see if they finally follow through 24 years later.

And their US market just happens to overlap with the EV early adopter market. Symmetrical all-wheel drive, the thing that snow drivers need, is easy peasy for an electric.

It was never going to be a jump straight to EV (although the concept car model type still doesn't exist to this day), they knew the path was to go hybrid first. They've made some weak attempts at hybrids but they have fallen so far behind in EV development at this point that they soon will only be selling rebadged Toyotas. There's no way that's sustainable for an auto manufacturer.
"Subaru is killing off gas cars and will only sell rebadged Toyota EVs in Europe."

Subaru was talking about an electric model over 20 years ago! I saw the concept drawings. Whoever has run Subaru for the last 20 years needs to be given a watch and thanked for their service on their way out the door.

You forgot one important detail, the average price of homes in Berkeley. Anybody spending $1M on a 2/1 craftsman bungalow is going to also drop a few extra dollars on landscaping.
Serious question, do better how? What if reusable rockets and S3XY cars were the breakthroughs and everything after is just meh?
Re:Hello Toronto – Waymo Is En Route on Saturday October 17, 2026 @12:22PM (#50132429)
Judging all self-driving tech by one brand is as ridiculous as judging all hamburgers by one from McDonalds. Hyundai's capability is years behind Tesla and Waymo because they started actual years later than the best.

Necessity is the mother of invention and I can only imagine the volume of necessity that your environment demands. If fighting is not an option, can you use your skills to make some lemonade out of a giant bowl of lemons?

Hang in there. This, too, shall pass.

Are there drone storms also in French Guiana?
Re:Ukraine says new Starlink restrictions disrupt their military on Wednesday October 14, 2026 @12:42PM (#50090615)
What makes you think this will be a public company? Starshield is for militaries and there is one almost European country that has a booming (literally) startup scene.
Re:Ukraine says new Starlink restrictions disrupt their military on Wednesday October 14, 2026 @12:36PM (#50090513)
The long term answer is Ukraine will become the European Starshield provider but they need to leverage other countries' money and launch assets to get there in the short and medium term.
Re:Ukraine says new Starlink restrictions disrupt their military on Wednesday October 14, 2026 @12:23PM (#50090227)
It's pretty clear that electing the pumpkin twice has dispelled any notions about the US's reliability as a long-term partner. Sure, the next US president will extend a hand in solidarity, but the Europeans can't rely on that happening every 4 years any longer. I think most have figured that out.
Re:Ukraine says new Starlink restrictions disrupt their military on Wednesday October 14, 2026 @11:34AM (#50089300)
Now that Starshield has proven vital to survival in a war, see: Ukraine this week, it's inevitable that the EU will pass legislation mandating its creation. This is not business as usual. The Baltics, Nordics, Poland and others are going to push for building it now.

Where are they shopping that prices have only risen 3.7% YoY? That does not match neither my grocery bill inflation nor product shrinkflation.

It takes a village to raise a child and if you don't have that expanded support structure, just having one can be overwhelming.
