They also work longer hours than medieval serfs, are more precarious in housing and food security and more separated from their family. Also slaves work the farms. Read tomatoland or the lives and deaths of the American workers.

Most people do not understand the skill or craft required in aspects of art and music. They do not appreciate it. They may enjoy it in general but cannot appreciate the technical aspects without the background or education. For example, they may enjoy bold colors without realizing the colors come straight from the tube and the artist did no real work in selecting those colors or they may not appreciate the order and precision of brush strokes to achieve certain mark making shapes.

I know right. I don’t get it either. How could other people have different preferences?
Re:iPhone Duo on Wednesday September 09, 2026 @02:32PM (#49631443)
Just like the first iPod and iPhone.
100k people is like 400mil, one day of war is estimated at 2billion dollars. So more like one volley of missiles or 1/5th of a day
Re:All of human cooking compressed into 2 megabytes on Thursday May 28, 2026 @02:13PM (#48313105)
I asked perplexity to convert a simple recipe to a dependency graph and it works pretty well! I like this graph to figure out my cooking workflow. What tasks can be started independently and what needs to be done before others.
Re:The Smelly Baby Problem on Saturday May 02, 2026 @01:25AM (#47983566)
I read several books on this topic but had no luck until about six months in. I also never tried the bottomless for a day or week approach so

We got a top hat plus potty for ours. We put her on after every diaper and it’s surprising how often they go! After a while they know to hold it until they sit in the potty
Re:The AI Industry Is Discovering That the Public Hates It on Saturday April 25, 2026 @10:41PM (#47906781)
People complain UBI doesn’t make mathematical sense doesn’t realize our current economy doesn’t make mathematical sense either. All this prosperity we in the developed world get comes at the cost of extracting wealth from the rest of the world and all government taking on ever more debt.

You mean 12k a year with free housing and free health insurance?
If you’re in the market for a 96 core cpu and you’re using Geekbench to guide your purchasing decision, the fault lies with you.
Re:How ICE Knows Who Minneapolis Protesters Are on Friday January 30, 2026 @04:03PM (#46829854)
In your mind, does getting away from the police equate to getting shot? In the head? Three times?

Even police chiefs have called out how incompetent that agent was.

Re:US freezes visas for 75 nations on Wednesday January 14, 2026 @02:08PM (#46621028)
Pardon me if I’m misreading it but this sounds like disinformation. No examples in your example, a lot of abstract reasoning unmoored from facts.

>uncontrolled migration is well-understood (and rather obviously!) as something damaging to any society and any culture.

The US was built on unrestricted immigration for a long time. Was that destructive? I guess so if you count native Americans but not to the nation of USA.

Capitalism wants closed borders to labor and open borders to capital. Thats how they can squeeze labor costs while maximizing profits. The US is highly individualistic but wants closed borders so how does your reasoning align with the news?

How could there even be a false negative?
The X2 [1] is suppose to be more competitive now.

Re:The Fatal Trap UBI Boosters Keep Falling Into on Saturday November 29, 2025 @12:40AM (#46085407)
But have you seen a population of people quit jobs over pettier things? The studies aren't based on just one or two individuals.
> I know that's mostly my fault for not meeting my neighbors. But also, most families aren't even home during the day anymore because they have to work.

You still can. I managed to make friends with a few neighbors just by asking a few innocuous questions every time we meet. Some are friendlier than others. I don't talk to everyone I meet, just those I think could be friendly. I'm usually wrong though and the ones I'd never think would be friendly turns out the most talkative. I met my next door neighbor on afternoon and we talked for 6 hours. Take a chance, odds are good you'll find someone who wants to reach out as much as you.

You mean all land owning men or men of sufficient wealth (those who can vote). Certainly not women. In other words, the male elites.
> Did you know that the Slave South was unable to supply their troops? They were largely barefoot. The reason they were in Pennsylvania was to raid a shoe factory (but got smashed at Gettysburg instead). Towns and cities and industry sprouted up all over in the free North, not so much in the South.

Guess where the north got their cotton to make those shoes? The south. The textile industries of the north would've never gotten their start without cheap cotton made possible by slavery.

> As for natural resources, why is resource-rich S. America mired in poverty? Why did the Indian nations never industrialize, and remained poor? Why did resource-poor Japan become super rich after being burned to the ground in WW2? Why did resource-rich Russia never become prosperous? Why did zero-resource Taiwan become a wealthy powerhouse? Why is resource rich Africa still stuck in poverty?

Every South American nation that tried to raise itself out of poverty had their government overthrown or their leader assassinated with the help of good ol' USA. Japan/S. Korea/Taiwan industrialized because USA decided they needed strong allies to counter Russia/China. Check out the grand area plans. Africa was colonized, exported millions of their people to slavery, and is continually destabilized by the west (corporations, world bank, IMF, etc) to perpetuate resource extraction.

The poor is kept poor so the rich can get richer. Why is food so plentiful and cheap? Slave labor. Read Tomatoland for a taste. Why are clothes so cheap? People are working for pennies to make those clothes. Why doesn't the iPhone price rise with inflation? There are millions of poor rural Chinese pounding for a chance to work at inhumane conditions for a few dollars a day. You think they make enough to pull their families out of poverty? Nope, it's mostly foreign companies that are reaping the bulk of the profit while continually pressing their costs (labor wages) down.

Oh yes it’s about time the US enters another war so we can justify even more military spending and less spending to improve the livelihood of the people.

Just kidding we are already doing that with Venezuela.

This would make sense if Apple sells the chips
Re:China Has Added Forest the Size of Texas Since 1990 on Wednesday October 29, 2025 @11:58PM (#45756291)
Have you heard of this thing called the new Jim Crow?
Re:China Has Added Forest the Size of Texas Since 1990 on Wednesday October 29, 2025 @11:53PM (#45756261)
Is that better or worse than aiding/supporting genocide?
Re:China Has Added Forest the Size of Texas Since 1990 on Wednesday October 29, 2025 @11:51PM (#45756250)
The interstate was for the military. The new deal was in part thanks to left wing communists/unionists voicing for the gov to do more for the people. Then came McCarthyism.

Re:Apple M5 chip on Wednesday October 15, 2025 @02:34PM (#45596687)
Says M5 is 4x faster than M4 and 6x faster than M1 for AI compute on the GPU. Basically M4 was only a little faster than M1 at this task. Ex. if M5 is 24 AI TOPS, M4 is 6 AI TOPS, and M1 is 4 AI TOPS.

Unless you're looking at your MacBook running LM Studio you won't be seeing much improvement in this regard.

Re:Solar energy is now the cheapest source of power, study on Tuesday October 07, 2025 @06:07PM (#45509534)
That only works if the budget is balanced or the debt is paid off.
X86 compete based on clock speed for the longest time so they use cell libraries designed for higher that. This means the transistors are larger and less dense. Arm cores are targeted at energy efficiency first so they use denser cells that doesn’t clock as fast. The trade off is they can have larger reorder buffers and larger scheduling windows to squeeze better ipc. As frequency scaling slows but not so much density scaling you get better results going the slower route.

I used to love watching the hour long essays but after notebooklm I just get a briefing summary and realize most of these essays are mostly vibes.
