Yeah, Boeing has the 777X that features folding wingtips. It still going certification and is looking like it'll be out next year (originally 2020).

Another reason published CVEs isn't a great metric is that one of the largest contributors to the number of CVEs significantly increasing in the past couple years has been that the Linux kernel now submits almost all bugs as CVEs which wasn't the case before.
Re:Stryker Hit by Handala – Intune Managed Devices Wiped on Wednesday March 11, 2026 @11:57AM (#47337290)
And its being reported in major news outlets now including the Wall Street Journal. This seems widespread, impacting all their employees globally and manufacturing sites as well. Wonder what the impact at hospitals and clinical care is...

"Stryker was hit more than 4 hours ago, nearly at 12:30 EST. They have wiped multiple systems and pushed OS resets to personal phones with work profiles and computers. Many servers have been wiped clean, all their work apps are down, the entire company is in a complete stop. Also, the servers at the DataCenter are inaccessible. They accessed through Admin accounts and put their signature Handala artwork on every login page. They have also sent emails to multiple executives taking ownership of the attack."

Yes, its also failing on my workspace account but worked on my personal. Might be a bug or a delayed deployment for workspaces b/c it might need to be "enabled" by admins?

Second this, it would be useful to have a "EU safe" label or similar to help me understand if 635.8 DEHP is a good thing or bad.
Re:Garum Masala: trade between ancient Rome and India on Tuesday April 11, 2023 @08:02PM (#35533387)
Its been a while since I last went into a deep dive about this, but i think the term did exist before. Black pepper, other spices, as well as ginger or garlic can add "heat" to a dish without chili peppers.
Re:Remote work is starting to hit office rents on Wednesday March 22, 2023 @06:44PM (#35268076)
Probably because of biotech, which similar to Boston also going up. And maybe defense.
Agreed, it also means no/less distractions and maybe that's what is happening. I get close to the words-on-paper immersive feeling when using e-ink style tablets (like supernote which tries really hard to not be more than a journal). But just knowing I can interact with it makes it less immersive. Something about words on paper are static and the information in front of me isn't changing makes it feel more immersive.

gitbook.com is working but gitbook.io is having trouble redirecting.
Do you have a link to that thread where an anon google employee posted on why it occurred? Interested in what happened since I didn't realize it did.
Re:Tell HN: C Experts Panel – Ask us anything about C on Tuesday April 14, 2020 @10:35AM (#22866492)
Not particular to the C language, but what are your opinions on build systems, particularly for the embedded space? There's a couple vendor specific embedded IDEs and toolchains and having to glue together make/cmake files to support all of them can be a pain.
Isn't this how Mint did/does it?
NextDNS is great, set it up on all my devices a few back when there was a post on here about it. Uninstalled a few apps just from seeing the number of requests they were sending even when I didn't use those apps frequently.

Like its mentioned in this discussion, using the FB SDK will result in apps sending requests to FB. Found a banking app I use was doing this...

Re:More bosses give four-day workweek a try on Friday February 21, 2020 @02:41PM (#22386076)
9/80 schedules are more popular in defense, at least from what I've seen. There's some unintended consequences (to me) of it. PTO/holidays can get weird, do you get 9 hours of paid time? Do you get 8 and shift your hours? Its mostly a problem when teams have a mix systems and there isn't a standard.

When I was at LM a few years ago, some teams were on a different 9/80 pattern (different Fridays off), and some still on the regular 10/80 schedule. So on Fridays you basically had significantly less people in the office and it was never the person you needed to get work done. Basically made Monday to Thursday the regular working week with Friday being there if you really needed to get work done.

Think the different schedules was a combination of LM employees, employees that were in the union, and external contractors having different contract requirements.

Re:OpenSK: a fully open-source security key implementation on Friday January 31, 2020 @10:45AM (#22202558)
Seems like they're not using the CryptoCell to drive crypto ops and have instead written the cypto algos in software in Rust... from the README (https://github.com/google/OpenSK):

We're currently still in the process on making the ARM® CryptoCell-310 embedded in the Nordic nRF52840 chip work to get hardware-accelerated cryptography. In the meantime we implemented the required cryptography algorithms (ECDSA, ECC secp256r1, HMAC-SHA256 and AES256) in Rust as a placeholder. Those implementations are research-quality code and haven't been reviewed. They don't provide constant-time guarantees and are not designed to be resistant against side-channel attacks.

Re:Key Negotiation of Bluetooth Attack on Friday August 16, 2019 @01:30PM (#20717411)
Can be, the Wall of Sheep mentioned here is from the traffic on the DefCon network. General practice is to make sure at least your bluetooth and wifi are turned off. Realistically, no one is going to use a 0-day to hack into your personal phone.
Re:Switzerland to test ‘hyperloop’ train technologies on Friday December 14, 2018 @04:51PM (#18685170)
Air bearings are expensive and have a very low clearance (talking about tens of microns). The lower clearance raises the issue of safety. If I remember correctly, to get that to be greater than tens of microns you need larger compressors and lower operating pressure inside the tube which increases costs and it tougher to maintain.

If you take a look at the SpaceX Hyperloop competition the teams moved away from using air bearings mostly due to the low clearances and the challenges it brought. Maybe on Mars it could be more realistic.

They had access to security cameras on the property, that's when they realized Aeillo's car was still there at the time of his stepdaughter's death. So guessing they saw the car leave on the camera.
Re:Ask HN: Is the new MacBook Pro worth its value for a developer? on Saturday September 01, 2018 @09:08PM (#17894862)
It has! I've been using Ubuntu on a thinkpad x1 carbon (2017) for almost a year. Battery life is between 6-8 hours everyday use including work. Probably see between 8-10 if I'm not doing any programming

It is an X problem, there's (sorta) support for fractional scaling in Wayland
There's definitely a lot of progress being made! When I was paying more attention to the field last year, Google's research team working on robotics had pushed out a really interesting paper [1] and some more recently [2].

[1] https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WR5WUKXUQ8U [2] https://ai.googleblog.com/search/label/Robotics

I had switched to Wayland and it (sort of) supports fractional scaling system wide. It did work, its just some things end up being blurry (fonts are blurry) and that was too much for me. My temp workaround is using font scale at 1.4. Its good enough but I miss not having to worry about it with Wayland, especially with multiple monitors that have different resolutions. Some day Wayland support will be better, but I don't see it anytime soon.
