Re:GPT-5.5 Price Increase: What It Costs on Friday May 08, 2026 @07:29AM (#48061630)
For what is worth I find GPT 5.5 qualitatively different than 5.4 and 5.3

If I had to collapse the nature of the difference in one sentence it'd be that the 5.5 does more what I'm asking it to do versus doing a small aspect of what I'm asking then stopping.

5.4 required a lot of "continue" encouragement. 5.5 just "gets it" a bit more

What is boils down to for me is that even though it's more expensive I would much rather use 5.5 on low then 5.4/5.3 on high/medium

Just because it's been true in the past doesn't mean it will always the case

Hypothecally speaking. If I were to live in an authoritarian country that would shut off all means of communication like that. What off grid technology would be viable?

Lora? Shortwave radio? Or nothing at all?

I'm not looking forward to the Azure migration and potential for more issues in the coming year

I fail to understand how these nuclear bomb simulations require so much compute power.

Are they trying to model every single atom?

Is this a case where the physicists in charge get away with programming the most inefficient models possible and then the administration simply replies "oh I guess we'll need a bigger supercomputer"

Because they're legal. We would still use asbestos and lead if it were not because of the legality question
Re:The Contradictions of Sam Altman, AI Crusader on Saturday April 01, 2023 @05:54PM (#35404488)
history is a simplified, prettified story that we tell ourselves about how things happened.
"common sense" things need to be empirically tested and validated
quote from the article:

"The toxicity tests showed that PLA particles were more toxic than the ABS particles on a per-particle comparison, but because the printers emitted so much more of the ABS"

so, not just ABS

it's almost like extreme inequality is bad or something

How are you getting the transcription of the NRK episode? I am learning Norwegian and often struggle to find reliable transcriptions for audio where the text exactly matches the audio (often subtitles are heavily edited compared to what's actually being said)
Re:Whisper – open source speech recognition by OpenAI on Thursday September 22, 2022 @06:47AM (#32937135)
To be more precise the original comment said "M1 Max" which in itself is significantly beefier a bare "M1"

Google's recorder app is NOT available for most phones. Only Pixels and a couple of other selected handsets

does it scroll one line at a time or one pixel at a time? can it do 120fps?
But people can sue YouTube for misapplication of copyright law. It would be extremely expensive and time consuming but they could in theory
Yes it does need more regulation. It is fraud and as a manufacturer you shouldn't be allowed to get away with deceptive shit like this.
