Genuinely curious: Why would you have a problem with that? Were you planning on taking their code and reselling it?
Thanks for the clarification. Source First is obviously better because it prevents big corporations from ripping off small developers and profiting from it.
Good point. I think the difference is that the society as a whole was much higher-trust than it is today. America is back to being the Wild West, take what you can and don’t look back.
> after which all participants switch to the bad behavior
This is how it has become with job applications. So many people started lying on resumes that the job reqs starting raising the requirements for a position, which causes more people to need to lie. If you don't lie, you just don't get a job and starve/die.
And yet iPhone photos still look awful because of over-processing. That one split second when you see the beautiful photo you took and then BOOM "deep fusion" makes it looks crispy and gross.
7 years experience in both customer and product organizations. Running major programs, working with enterprise brands, etc.
Goals to increase diversity are not illegal. And if an HR person were to hire a non-diverse person, it would be actively going against the company goals. So why would they ever do that?
But how do you avoid hiring a non-diverse person? What if the hiring manager likes them? Simple, just don’t even give them a screening at all. “Not a culture fit”
She thinks that was terrifying?
I’ve been applying for 2 years and landed maybe 5 interviews, none of which offered me a job. Two friends recommended me for jobs and I couldn't even get phone calls screenings.
Note: I am a white male.
> the director and screenwriter have said that it's basically orientalism and ornament and they've gotten rid of it because it's distracting
I honestly didn't notice. The Fremen still seem heavily middle eastern to me.
Who says they want it to be for all classes?
Right now, the rich are disproportionately punished for having children while the poor are basically paid for it. How about flip flopping that?
That makes sense. I guess I would just add that the users don’t know if it’s a good experience yet.
Maybe it sounds good on paper but in practice it amounts to a nothingburger and is essentially the same as manually moving instances in the fediverse.
> their excuse was that Matrix didn't have account migration
Neither does BlueSky… or if they do “have” it, it’s never been used because there is still only one server.
Bandcamp has always lacked a coherent vision.
They have an app but it is incredibly underpowered and lacking logical features.
Each band can list their tour dates but there is no feed where users can see all of the bands that are going to be in their area, etc.
Just very frustrating because all the primitives are in place, but there’s no product vision.
Plume looks nice! How does the sync work? Local first rocks, but I do want some redundancy as well. Are there plans for multiplayer or sharing?
> In this paper, Pelli and colleagues show that when reading words that have been distorted by presenting each letter in visual noise (like an out of tune television), readers do not perform as well as an 'ideal observer' who can recognise words based on their shape alone
I said being able to see the word shape is very helpful. I did not say that you can read based on the word shape alone.
this is because we recognize most words by shape. capital case is all single-height while lowercase is mixed height (it has letters that ascend and descend). for situations like road signs, being able to scan and see the “shape” of a word quickly is very helpful.
so that is an argument in favor of using lowercase.
i would also like to say that latin capital letters are for the most part a set of totally different, but related, shapes. so our alphabet is really more like 52 letters. and for what?
There is one single hivemind on the network because of their invite-only system.
It was designed that way so they wouldn't have to worry about moderation so much right away.
1. When people actually wanted invites, they couldn’t get one. Timing matters.
2. People may be interested, but they’re people that are outside of the existing niche that is on Bluesky. But clearly BlueSky only wants people that are part of that existing niche. The monoculture.
There was a time when people I followed on twitter started making accounts. But 99% of their followers (like me) couldn’t follow them there. So those people of course stopped posting there.
> Jack Dorsey moved his support to Nostr
Some part of that is due to the design of BlueSky. But I think most of it was ironically due to the invite system simply existing. Jack wanted an open platform.
The problem is, you don’t need a sprint system to do an incremental release.
Fundamentally, Sprints run parallel to incremental releases and are not supposed to be synced with them.
For example, a Sprint is once every 2 weeks. But the next product release could be determined whenever a certain feature is completed.
Reddit’s value is the historical content. Old content on a feed-based app is literal garbage, however.
Correct me if I’m wrong, but Sprints only make sense for teams with more than, say, 4 engineers.
Because a Sprint is fundamentally about estimating bandwidth. You look at the old Sprints and are able to average out some kind of true estimate of capability, right?
But if you have a smaller team, everyone basically already knows what your bandwidth is.
My team got laid off in fall 2023. I knew it would be a long road ahead, but it still feels like we’re just in the beginning of the tech layoffs. Extremely depressing. Hoping I can ride this out.
Last I checked, the way the protocol works still causes a huge amount of load for minimal usage. Because of the way events need to propagate and the types of events that propagate
The first time they went from “no support” to “support”.
They have absolutely done the reverse move haha
Right. What is stopping Apple from requiring a valid unique device key with every request now?
