Re:Proton's CEO Cancels AI 'Re-Interviews' on Friday October 30, 2026 @02:17PM (#50308013)
It’s email. There isn’t much privacy in email other than TLS. Proton encrypting your inbox is basically useless since they could read your email in between TLS termination and encryption. I don’t care how private their fancy Swiss servers are and the NSA doesn’t either.
If you can’t tell the difference you’re stupid or you support trump style fascism.

One is a bribe the other is a health insurance program.

I can’t speak to UBI but it’s not a common platform anyways.

Shit I still use “low hanging fruit”! How out of date am I?

> in america there is in my opinion a single shared american culture, shared across people of different religions

Describe that single culture.

Downvote it all you want; I’m right.
You have a good message in general but here at hacker news we try to avoid personal attacks and that sort of thing. Just letting you know why you’re being flagged; but I do agree Americans are generally clueless.
Did you know nearly every middle to larger sized US military base has base housing and even schools?

That’s the twist.

Re:Neural Networks Are Already Clean on Thursday October 15, 2026 @05:30PM (#50110602)
Let him come here and comment, then. I’m amazed this rape cult leader immersed in his fantasy world still gets traction amongst HN.
Re:Bitwarden Dual License Model on Saturday October 10, 2026 @02:24PM (#50035674)
Excellent now I have to find something else again. You can’t fucking trust anyone not to chase money these days.

Fuck bitwardens creators for selling out. I want them to know they fucking suck.

Re:No Man Is an Island on Friday October 09, 2026 @09:31PM (#50028610)
Well I’m autistic so the way I learn about how to deal with feelings and emotions properly is through reading other folks stories.

I don’t know if I care about feeling better, exactly, I just want to know how to deal with the feelings and try not to destroy myself.

Re:No Man Is an Island on Friday October 09, 2026 @05:19PM (#50026680)
Yea it’s probably deep seated horror at slowly being replaced. I’m not sure what I feel but ordering a clanker around everyday is exhausting both emotionally and intellectually. I would rather not even talk to the thing, but they fucking suck at software architecture no matter what anyone says. You can’t just leave them alone with a task because you get the worst designs 7/10 times. The other 3/10 scare me enough that I’ve started learning how to install solar and battery systems online.

I should probably read something about past instances of this; you mentioned coal miners and maybe hearing their stories will help us.

Re:Show HN: Making a flexible "neon" t-shirt with LED filaments on Thursday October 08, 2026 @07:00PM (#50013631)
Magnets?
Oh I get it hehe
Or they write a short article or a rough draft, and get the clanker to zhuzh it up. I've experimented with clankers doing writing for me, but they freaking suck so I refuse to do that any longer, and what I noticed is they tended to just change a lot of what I wrote but then extended the writing with no-meaning bullshit and removed all of the soul from my writing at the same time.

IMO: writing ~= thinking and if you let a clanker write for you then you'll forget how to think properly, so no one should be doing it.

Yea, that is sad, just read up on it. Next thing you know it'll just be badges. If they were going to add electricity they should have gone for a full EV performance car, IMO. A PHEV is worse than either EV or ICE alone.
Re:All I wanted was a custom domain email on Monday October 05, 2026 @02:46AM (#49961438)
Yea, Fastmail checks all the boxes, and is well-regarded around here as far as I know. I have used it for something like 7-8 years now and am very happy with it.
GR is gazoo racing, the Toyota performance line. From what I know it’s not just a badge.
Naval vessels are some of the most maintained machines in the world. They get hauled out for hull repairs routinely, or put into long term maintenance facilities for months while they are repaired. Probably second only to airplanes and space craft.
Re:I Switched to Brave Browser on Monday September 28, 2026 @04:26PM (#49883879)
Same but for Safari. I use it as my daily driver and rarely get issues related to unsupported APIs. Everything seems to work fine, the only issues I ever hit are related to the Apple VPN.
I’m surprised that people expect no change over 30 years. Of course a show like SNL will change, it’s the cast of Theseus.
Why not link it here so we can all read their report
Yea but those mass lawsuits won't happen or matter until after midterms at this point, so even if they did illegal stuff in the end the votes will have been suppressed successfully. In a war, if you do a war crime, the dead are still dead even if the person who committed the war crime is accountable later. In politics, if they do a criminal act like this, they win an election and never have to account for their actions, because their side won and won't call them to account.
> I'm considering working on this full time. If you have some advice or opportunities on how I can support myself doing this, let me know!

Make it easy for non-technical users to also use this software. That will probably get you further along with gaining paid customers, IMO, because that's the hard part with something like this. It's easy for anyone who isn't used to `git` to use GitHub issues or something like Jira or Shortcut, but something tied to `git` or another cli tool is a hard sell for non-programmers, I think.

Make a program users can install on their MacOS/Windows desktop that interacts with a repository, without any need for the user to use `git`, or make a secure/hardened docker image that an org can run in their infra that links to repos and allows interaction via the web.

Well they’re paying for their extra time with the destruction of our planet we rely on to survive so fuck em
Too bad having their names associated with this immoral politicking won’t cause them problems. An employee stealing a few hundred bucks would get a felony and probably never work a good job again. Founders stealing hundreds of millions from workers get to say whoopsie.
Re:The NASA/ESA Mars Sample Return mission has been canceled on Tuesday September 22, 2026 @05:41PM (#49808547)
They should do that anyways, plus their own, and then they can be like, “when America couldn’t afford it, we stepped in for them because were good people” and it would be strictly a PR win. As long as America didn’t just destroy the sample out of spite later, they could also act nicely and maybe we’re could all get along better.
Let’s waste precious energy to save 30 seconds twice a day. A remote control is apples to oranges here.
Re:The NASA/ESA Mars Sample Return mission has been canceled on Monday September 21, 2026 @04:21PM (#49792839)
It would be cool if NASA worked with the Chinese agency to collect those cores using their rocket, it would be a win win.
Thanks, I am pretty knowledgeable about nuclear ships and they’re only used in specific situations because they don’t care about cost for those situations. It’s too expensive for cargo and there is no training pipeline for civilian naval reactors so this idea is dead on arrival.

I’m pro nuclear tech but the economics and systems will not support nuclear for ships right now. We are barely making headway into nuclear on land these days, let’s focus on that for now.

Nuclear power is expensive enough on land. At sea it’ll never compete with any other energy source. They’ll be pulling hydrocarbons from the air before they do nuclear ships in earnest. Yes I have heard of nuclear carriers and subs, the only two useful applications of nuclear power at sea.
