Can it run DOOM?
Re:Gemini 3.5 Flash on Wednesday May 20, 2026 @03:07AM (#48204156)
That graph seems odd. It looks like Gemini 3.5 Flash is not actually on the convex hull, and they forced the 'frontier' to bend inwards to include it
I've never played this, but this move has made me curious. Is there a way I can still play this on Android? An apk or fdroid or a mobile web version?
Re:Vote Labour or Green? on Sunday November 30, 2025 @03:46AM (#46094971)
I can't tell if this is intended to be read straightforwardly or as satire. The general summary seems to be Labour bad because I dislike Labour decisions

Labour flaws are presented with hyperbole like [demolishing foundations] While Tory flaws are accompanied with commentary like [it's not perfect, but nothing is]

"I'm getting Facebook ads for something we were just talking about verbally so it must be listening in" has been debunked time and again. Any combination of other browsing based inference, baader meinhof, and pure coincidence would be at play
Re:A AI etymology deconstructor – can guess fake words on Monday March 17, 2025 @04:06AM (#43386172)
I think that by "can guess fake words" in the title OP means that the tool can come up with a plausible guess for the etymology, even for fake words. Unfortunately, the more common reading of that phrase is that it can tell fake words from real ones

> They are a net positive by a large margin Maybe initially. The 'large' margin is getting smaller every day. Pricing is opaque and ever increasing. A subscription is slowly becoming a requirement rather than a ln add on. Most of the price increases are not passed on to the driver. Drivers in most markets are 'independent contractors', which they're realising is a bad deal. They've only recently moved from market-capture mode to tighten-the-screw mode. Expect the enshittification to accelerate
As a UK resident who's recently given up alcohol, the pub culture part is the thing I miss the most. The quick pseudo-answer is non-alcoholic drinks, but it creates a weird dynamic when most of the group gets slowly inebriated over the evening, and you sip lemonade
Re:Ask HN: Real-time speech-to-speech translation on Friday October 25, 2024 @04:17AM (#41943305)
I've been looking for something like this (Not for Korean though) and I'd even be happy to pay - though I'd prefer to pay by usage rather than a standing subscription fee. So far, no luck, but watching this thread!

I just tried making one after reading your comment, and it was... pretty straightforward? I'm curious what blockers you encountered

The Netflix show _Altered Carbon_ was adapted from the book _Altered Carbon_ by Richard K. Morgan

Children of Memory is my favourite in the series! If you liked the first two (#1 was significantly better imo), you should 100% go for the third

This looks great. What's the closest/best Mac equivalent?
> the average book should have a 2.5 Disagree on this. This assumes that people read books completely at random. In reality, people read blurbs/summaries or get a recommendation and the typical book you read is likely to be better than the midpoint between the worst book you've read and the best book you've read (I'm assuming a linear scale mental model).

The top four here are pretty much the biggest reasons I use an Android rather than an iPhone
Using it 4 times a week with fitness apps for cardio. I prefer running but VR fitness is fantastic for when it's too cold to go out running
The trivia contest sounds awesome! What are some example questions?

This, specifically, and the question as a whole are hard to parse as a human. Before clicking through to the SO link (where there seems to be a lot more context), I wouldn't have guessed the problem you were trying to solve.

I'm curious why you changed the prompt at all? Was it to get the model to avoid your question's SO page?

Lol, possibly not!
That's NumberZhang!

I was really hoping I could put pineapple on a pizza, because that's an emotion that's hard to put into words

I was excited to know where the names come from, and after reading all of the tweets I still don't know. If the answer is just: it's a random collection of letters because it's not a brand they want to build, then that's a very predictable and uninteresting answer.
Tiktok, Snapchat, Twitter - all to varying degrees. More in other aspects of Meta's businesses
I have nothing to contribute to the discussion, but hoping this comment gets me some karma for when this actually gets implemented
Re:Confessions of a Bitcoin Widow on Tuesday February 15, 2022 @02:54PM (#30351763)
The nuance this misses is scale. FB wouldn't just need to block people who are reported, they would need to have a team to manually investigate all claims. Otherwise it's just another tool in the harassers' arsenal. Their automated systems (which exist) haven't caught this, or they wouldve been disabled already. Alternatively, the number of people needed to investigate every reported account is absolutely massive.

I refuse to participate, on account of the overwhelming America-centrism. I realise that by doing this I'm skewing it even more, but
Re:Ask HN: How do you structure your to-do lists? on Saturday January 29, 2022 @03:04AM (#30124662)
That's neat! Do you use a specific tool/app? Or is it just plaintext is even read paper?
These are both really unique and interesting! Curious to know how you've publicised it so far, and if you think spending more time/money on publicity can get them to grow a lot more
Re:Ask HN: Burned Out. What Now? on Wednesday January 19, 2022 @04:55PM (#30000812)
I know why I'm burning out, but I don't know what to do with the realisation. The fear of being fired, then broke, and then not being able to survive is real-ish. Advice?
