'Egoless' can mean a lot of different things. Here it seems to mean 'everything belongs to the corporations.'
I’ve had plenty of boiled hot dogs in the US. Not my fave but people do it. Maybe it’s a regional thing.
This bit of unhingery is where I gratefully leave HN. Life is too short.
Google's free AI responses are moving the bar on what I expect from search. But maybe not in the direction you think.
Sci-fi premise. Somewhere [1] there is a message board where developers openly celebrate those feelings of dislike and disdain toward users.
On that board, silently deleting a user's files is obviously justified. What would be out of line is complaining about software silently deleting user files.
[1] Long ago. Galaxy far away.
>A car is a half solution to going to work.
A house is a half solution to sleeping indoors. Food is a half solution to hunger!
That does nothing to solve my real problem, which is too little surveillance.
If you don't have laws, or don't enforce them, people will do whatever they want.
I can remember when this simple point was obvious to almost everyone.
>There is absolutely no reason to read those contracts any more
For another perspective, check out the comment you're replying to.
Absolutely. First let's install an extreme surveillance state and give them full police power unlimited by the Constitution. Then, later, if we have any regrets, no problem. Just restore democracy.
Seems clear that's begun in the US now.
Your link confirms that the cuts are illegal.
Cuts must come from congress. Read Constitution.
>This so exaggerated
No, it's just what's happening online.
>If you think some of the people you know are assholes, that's fine. If you think all of them are assholes,
Wrong thread? Doesn't seem to correspond to anything in the article.
>The standard complex exponential and complex logarithm functions are defined exactly in the same way, because they are also multi-valued, so the same kind of equalities like yours would also be true for them.
Example values of e^z and 1^z:
e^2 ~= 7.389
1^2 = 1
e^(i\pi) =-1
1^(i\pi) = 1
e^-7 ~= 0.000912
1^(-7) = 1
e^(1+i) ~= 1.46869394 + 2.28735529 i
1^(1+i) = 1
1^x = 1 for any complex x. So that library can be very simple and fast!
The author's not talking about doing math, but about porting math into code. Counting turns is the same as counting cycles. People do that all the time. It works fine.
And this math is kind of a mess. exp(x) is its own derivative but the log is not. (d/dx)log(x) = 1/x
But, agreed, if you're going to do calculus, use radians.
I've also seen public information (from SEC filings) being sold by a consulting firm as competitive intel. Which I guess it kind of is competitive intel, but you can download it for free.
1. When I was 8, my mom told me that people got paid what their work was worth to society. When I was 12 she told me not necessarily. She said this: "You were only 8. I was trying to make it simple for you."
2. Management consultants get paid by shareholders to outsource blame for decisions made by management.
Please understand that the goal of these policies is to weaken scientific research in the US. The people who push this stuff acknowledge openly that they oppose science, experts, and accurate information. This isn't a misunderstanding or a fumble.
I think it's just shouting. The 'netiquette' nerds [1] noticed that all-caps comes across as shouting. For once they got something right.
[1] bless their hearts
Find a temperature that both sides can accept. Also, the dozen other people affected by the air conditioning? Do they pay rent too?
This feels like a story from someone who just crossed the threshold into adulthood and thinks that makes him the "dad" now.
Kagi search works much better than Google search for me. But I don't use it for news, so I dunno.
I have nothing to do with Kagi. I've been a user for a few months.
Yeah, I think the peak expectation for AI is that the user gets to be the manager of a very smart team. But we've all seen that. If the manager is clueless about the technology, the results are disappointing.
Waiting for someone to bring up the perennial claims that San Jose has the highest population density in the US :)
Yes. It's almost as if the author were afraid that long, long, long chains of explanations might be somehow undesirable.
There are graphics, it's real-time, but you type commands to control the drones.
Has anybody worked out quantitatively whether the total dot-com boom was a decent investment in hindsight?
