Jack White did something similar with Lazaretto.
Re:LinkedIn is laying off nearly 700 employees on Monday October 16, 2023 @05:15PM (#37906746)
It really is!
Even better, they refuse to remove therapists who no longer take insurance even after multiple attempts and letters requesting removal. It's a fun scam.
Correct, he's only trying to mitigate the damage caused by showing people who he (and the other wealthy folks) really is and how he thinks. This sort of shit is the equivalent to thought cancer.
Then why did he take sides?
You're not kidding. Seeing 500 applicants for a local job with remote options. There aren't 500 people here that have the skills.
we could go back to welfare capitalism, the way it worked before shareholder capitalism.
Re:The tech job recession is over on Wednesday August 16, 2023 @01:05PM (#37150086)
Definitely describes my time at AWS between 2016 and 2022.
It's not unclear. They "lost" 22 Billion due to ad blockers.
Re:The 115F Heat Is Killing Phones in Sardinia on Friday July 21, 2023 @12:30PM (#36815873)
Not just in Sardinia. Anywhere it's 115F.
You are correct. At AWS you can perform at a L7 for years and never get a promo if you're not best friends with the skip level manager.
The Adam Freeland track "We Want Your Soul" is the perfect background track for reading the article. For those unfamiliar, here's the original : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0oMEuyhBkRo . There's also a longer updated 2012 unofficial remake : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zG29C4skboc . Enjoy!
Unregretted attrition targets did not fluctuate by earnings in my area at AWS.
Sounds like GCP will soon get rid of its Twitter feature.
Can confirm, my mother works in one, the stories are horrific, even for those paying north of 10K per month.
Re:Startups Are Scooping Up Big Tech’s Cast-Off Workers on Thursday May 11, 2023 @02:30PM (#35906267)
This! AWS was doing this in 2017 and 2018.
Think the term your looking for is "shareholder capitalism". We definitely need to go back to "welfare capitalism" as what we're doing now is simply a race to the bottom.
Especially when you're realize that the billing features have been turned up to 11 on turn-key rollout. Sampling set at 100%, gosh that's expensive right out of the box, but no accident.
I briefly worked there. They literally have no idea what they're doing, like not even a little bit.
Re:More than five whys and “layer eight” problems on Tuesday February 14, 2023 @12:56PM (#34793170)
Isn't it all layer 8 problems these days? Most of us can solve problems at the first seven.
thank you!
There definitely are. I've had someone help me like this in time of need and I make sure to do the same when I have the opportunity. You'd be surprised how often the opportunity arises.
Re:FAA Says Outage Was Mistakenly Caused by Contractors on Friday January 20, 2023 @12:11PM (#34456252)
the contractor is the next level up, almost the same thing.
Won what? Ahole of the year?
Re:Ask HN: What's your proudest hack? on Wednesday December 14, 2022 @07:10PM (#33992919)
Had a job in a NOC at an almost empty datacenter doing nothing for 12 hours at a time without the ability to watch YouTube (streaming video wasn't yet a thing) to pass the time. Upon noticing embedded YouTube videos had no issue getting past the corporate firewall I realized I could make a simple html file with the embedded links to the YouTube videos I wanted to watch and I could sit there entertained for the 12 hours. I found the ID's by searching google adding the embedded prefix to the ID in the html file. Not much of a hack, but 12 hours is too long to sit there without video. The second "hack" I performed in this role was adding the default route 0.0.0.0 back to a Checkpoint firewall after an MBA genius deleted it thinking it was erroneous. Look, the datacenter is back online!
Re:$7M lost on Amazon inventory, then bankrupt on Monday December 05, 2022 @12:04PM (#33868262)
Seems they're following the eBay model. Since they profit from the fraud they won't stop it.
get a cheap TDS meter.
Repo Men (2010) paints a pretty good picture of what this will look like taken to it's end.
Re:AWS us-west-2 issues on Wednesday September 28, 2022 @04:01PM (#33012522)
Can confirm this, it's political. It's always great seeing the "rationality" for not doing the right thing. After the 3 outages last December, I can remember a certain person in a certain global outage slack channel laughing at customers who weren't "resilient" enough to withstand the outage. Then AWS focused a resiliency campaign to document all those customers risks, as if AWS's own poorly designed system wasn't the cause for peoples inability to fail over. Glad I'm out of that place, it's super toxic these days.

Allow me! It was awful and Nathan should be done with television as he's incapable of empathy.
