Have you tried Landrace gardening? Maybe you just need to adapt the seeds to your local conditions.

Re:Neurons in a dish learn to play Pong on Friday October 14, 2022 @09:21PM (#33210669)
I tried to reply to someone but he got censored for pointing out that if you care about two neurons you should care about the animals that go through hell in the meat/dairy industry. Here's my reply:

One can't hope to truly know if another individual (be it a human or any other animal) is conscious (the hard problem of consciousness). But if it has eyes like us, mouth like us, plays like us, cries/screams when hurt like us, and even seem to dream like us (asleep dogs sometimes move like they are running in their dreams, and when they wake up they look confused and still perturbed from what they were seeing in their minds), it makes perfect sense to assume that they are conscious like us, and it's the ethical thing to do.

Re:The Anthropology of Farming Simulator on Monday October 03, 2022 @12:58PM (#33070286)
A lot of the knowledge required to farm has been lost with big Ag. Try finding someone who actually knows how to do the job's definition. Things like harvesting seeds... Farmers just buy them from the store, and then complain about how farming is getting so expensive. They have become consumers/slaves, with only big Ag, big Oil, and big Pharma as the winners (at the expense of everyone's health and everyone's future).
Re:Can the Visa-Mastercard duopoly be broken? on Wednesday August 17, 2022 @07:58PM (#32503433)
A layer on top of something is not something, it's something else.

Dude, you need to chill, you ruined BTC for everyone and now you are hostage to your own failed investment. Remember it was supposed to be cash. Accept your loss and stop lying to people, BTC doesn't work as cash, and neither does LN. Find something else to do with your life.

BCH is not as scam, it's cash, it's advertised as cash, and has always worked perfectly as cash.

BTC and LN are false advertisement.

Re:Can the Visa-Mastercard duopoly be broken? on Wednesday August 17, 2022 @07:23PM (#32503110)
Why does it have to be since the fork? Do you just arbitrarily remove the part of its history that make your coin look like a complete scam? People had to wait days for their transactions, many ended up falling off of the mempool, effectively becoming reversed transactions. The fees were absolutely unpredictable, people had to pay $100-$200 just to move their coins.

And after the fork BTC still makes you overpay ridiculous fees and the network is almost always extremely slow (except when no one is using it of course). Paying more than the 1c it was designed for is basically the norm now. That's why people like you try to gaslight everyone else into believing in the mythical LN that solves everything (allegedly, but not really).

Here's the proof:

https://bitinfocharts.com/comparison/bitcoin-transactionfees...

See how it never even gets close to 0 even after the fork? Now compare with BCH.

Re:Can the Visa-Mastercard duopoly be broken? on Wednesday August 17, 2022 @07:08PM (#32502970)
So your only arguments are denials and ad hominems. Got it.
Re:Can the Visa-Mastercard duopoly be broken? on Wednesday August 17, 2022 @07:05PM (#32502950)
>Lightning is absolutely Bitcoin

A separate network is not Bitcoin. And Bitcoin doesn't require intermediaries. The only network that fits Bitcoin's definition is BCH.

Re:Can the Visa-Mastercard duopoly be broken? on Wednesday August 17, 2022 @06:55PM (#32502854)
Can you show me where in the whitepaper it mentions your metrics? I didn't see anything about say, price in there. I did see a lot of mentions about it being cash though (also cheap to use, beat credit cards, no intermediaries, etc). Also SPV wallets (point 8). Nothing about LN.

In any case, BCH simply works 100% of the time, it's instant, extremely reliable and cheap to use, and it's actually being used as cash in the real world (unlike BTC). That's the most important thing in my opinion.

Re:Can the Visa-Mastercard duopoly be broken? on Wednesday August 17, 2022 @06:30PM (#32502565)
What you call "Bitcoin", is not Bitcoin by its own whitepaper. And it certainly DOESN'T have 100% uptime.

Keeping blocks artificially limited at 1mb doesn't make it more decentralized, it actually makes it more centralized, since barely anyone in the world can use the network or pay the fees when a bunch of people are using it at the same time.

Re:Can the Visa-Mastercard duopoly be broken? on Wednesday August 17, 2022 @06:18PM (#32502429)
It has much, much better scalability and uptime. The other day the entire LN went down due to 1 bad node. That has never happened, and will never happen in the original Bitcoin design (ticker: BCH).
Re:Can the Visa-Mastercard duopoly be broken? on Wednesday August 17, 2022 @06:15PM (#32502397)
You mean Bitcoin Cash.
Re:Mammals can breathe through their intestines (2021) on Monday June 13, 2022 @09:51AM (#31725572)
If you eat meat you are probably financing worse things, like sentencing animals to a life in a house of horrors. Eg: piglets have their teeth and tails removed without anesthesia. Many simply die from shock.

The Bitcoin idea didn't fail to be cash. BTC failed to be cash because it forced a permanent 1mb block size limit. If you want to see the original Bitcoin idea working as a charm, use Bitcoin Cash (BCH).
Re:The global fertility rate is falling on Wednesday July 15, 2020 @12:09PM (#23847266)
Some people have vocation for taking care of the old and the sick. Yes, they do it for the money, but they could have chosen something else, and yet they chose nursing because to them it is rewarding. Job satisfaction and doing good things for others are very important indicators for happiness.
As a vegan, I learned that there's D2 (comes from plants) and D3 (comes from animals), and they are the same as far as I know. Not sure about using them for treatments.
Re:Learning to code vs. learning to automate on Sunday December 08, 2019 @03:05PM (#21737948)
Heh, good point. But still I wouldn't call it a failure, just a defect, or not optimal. The company as a whole probably works just fine.
Re:Learning to code vs. learning to automate on Sunday December 08, 2019 @02:45PM (#21737802)
Why is that a failure? I didn't know every job had to last a lifetime.
If you need your credit card, then you can be censored. That's why it uses Bitcoin (BCH) instead.
Re:Coinbase adds support for Litecoin on Thursday May 04, 2017 @07:55AM (#14264128)
"Litecoin founder"

Funny how people get pride from copy/pasting Bitcoin's code.

Re:ALPHA observes light spectrum of antimatter for first time on Monday December 19, 2016 @07:10PM (#13216213)
I understood the article, and I'm not a physicist or anything like that. And I suspect almost everyone else here who read it understood it too. It's not uncommon for HN readers to be interested in how the Universe works, and therefore this wouldn't be the first physics article they've ever read.
Re:Bitcoin Sinks After Hackers Steal $65M from Exchange on Wednesday August 03, 2016 @11:59AM (#12218884)
Actually it makes perfect sense, and has happened in previous thefts.

I'm an investor and I think it's worth holding onto a currency if I see it as a good store of value, it doesn't matter if not everyone on earth is using it (eg: does everyone use gold? Could everyone use gold? No. Still a good store of value). So please don't speak on my behalf.

Re:Bitcoin Sinks After Hackers Steal $65M from Exchange on Wednesday August 03, 2016 @11:53AM (#12218826)
So how does Coinbase do it?
Re:Ethereum is Doomed on Monday June 20, 2016 @09:07PM (#11942828)
As expected, "Ethereum is turing-complete" turned out to be just a marketing meme (or a horrible idea at best), just like "Litecoin is silver", "Doge is community", and all the others.
I could think some.
In many places you won't have a chance of doing anything. Just do a quick search in youtube and watch all the people being robbed, beaten, raped, and killed by the police. That's the power they have now.
Just keep your private keys encrypted. Ever heard of Trezor? Encrypted paper wallets? Brain wallets?
