the first part of the article was interesting, but I couldn't finish it because it reads so heavily in claude's 'voice'
Re:Ask HN: Who is hiring? (July 2024) on Tuesday July 02, 2024 @01:35AM (#40853818)
Any tips for what DD is looking for outside of what's mentioned explicitly?

kuro5hin, now that's a name I've not heard in a long time
Re:Nginx Security Advisory on Wednesday February 14, 2024 @08:12PM (#39377933)
Why are they enabled by default while this page says otherwise?: https://my.f5.com/manage/s/article/K000138444

Note: The HTTP/3 QUIC module is not enabled by default and is considered experimental.

There's _a lot_ in the article that existed in the 00s. Now imagine a programmer from the 70s...

Same for me just in October for some stretches

Re:Ship of Fools on Thursday September 21, 2023 @10:01AM (#37597765)
yup- in florida, you need to leave the AC on, even if just at a higher ~80f temp while on vacation
Re:Find my cat: open-source Cat Tracker on Friday September 15, 2023 @09:54AM (#37523002)
It's definitely on the expensive side, but the form factor on the newer fi collar model is _much_ better than before (important for me, having a small dog). Battery life is about as good (it dropped ~3-5% with a dogsitter as I was away for a week).

Re:Ocean drone captures video from inside a hurricane on Friday October 01, 2021 @03:43AM (#28715734)
For that matter what do regular (amateur) boaters do if their sailboat or motorized boat get caught in a bad storm on the open ocean?

They footage IS very cool, for that matter what do EXPERIENCED boaters do if their sailboat or motorized boat get caught in a bad storm?

Re:Ocean drone captures video from inside a hurricane on Friday October 01, 2021 @03:36AM (#28715702)
are you speed reading?
There's a place for both- you need the devs who care more about adding business value quickly, and you need the devs that lean more towards perfectionism in how it's built.

Too little of the former, and nothing valuable gets done. Too little of the latter, and you end up drowning in technical debt, preventing the business from adapting as quickly as it needs to

Re:United Airlines will buy 15 planes from Boom Supersonic on Thursday June 03, 2021 @10:49AM (#27382207)
I think people would more likely associate "boom" with the times planes not-so-spontaneously explode
Article says it's not manual: "F-150 will seamlessly transfer its stored energy back into the home and automatically notify the owner via a push notification sent to their phone"
In my case, at least, I try to get more direct statements even when I understand the intent, to hopefully reduce misunderstandings in situations where I fail to pick up on the real intent

I want to play it.

If you're on mobile, zoom in to see the photos. If you zoom out, or (in my case) the default zoom is too far, you won't see the dots and boops will have no effect.

then the expression is occasionally replaced by a murderous look of rage when you have to maintain a 5k line script

Try dozens of 5k line Perl scripts

I think my expression will soon be permanently fixed into a look of murderous rage

Neither of you have provided citation or reasoning. You basically just said "nah uh"
Re:Don’t Do This in Production on Sunday August 19, 2018 @07:29PM (#17796804)
A rotting foundation eventually catches up with you. Things don't have to be perfect, or even particularly great... but when things are working by accident rather than by design...
Re:Secret Life of an Autistic Stripper on Monday July 23, 2018 @05:04PM (#17595996)
People won't expect you to pick up on visual cues like the person you responded to, though.
Re:Google: Security Keys Neutralized Employee Phishing on Monday July 23, 2018 @10:05AM (#17592832)
What do you mean "passed through"? You can't just steal a key and replay it whenever you want. (Unless you physically steal the key)
Re:Google: Security Keys Neutralized Employee Phishing on Monday July 23, 2018 @09:42AM (#17592646)
Even if you phish their password to a site, the person can't log in because they also need the physical key. The key doesn't validate anything related to the domain AFAIK
Re:Introducing the Python Language Server on Friday July 20, 2018 @07:25PM (#17579801)
The pro edition doesn't really have anything you'd otherwise get from VScode, and even then it's still free with an @edu email, or for OSS projects, or whatever other exceptions they have, so it's basically free
Re:Introducing the Python Language Server on Friday July 20, 2018 @11:39AM (#17575891)
Pycharm is free
Re:Google Cloud Downtime Postmortem on Friday July 20, 2018 @11:35AM (#17575844)
It's pretty bare-bones next to a postmortem like https://www.epicgames.com/fortnite/en-US/news/postmortem-of-...
