Sorry, I might be totally off the base here but why not use IBM Watson for that? It's free for a thousand minutes in a month and it's speech-to-text looks quite good on the first glance.

I was just looking around for a custom solution to have something listening, send it off somewhere to get the text out of the voice command and then respond to keywords/contexts with appropriate custom-made actions. All you need then is to process that and read out the response.

Re:When you speak two or more languages on Friday July 03, 2015 @09:02AM (#9825280)
Personally - I use SwiftKey with two languages enabled. Its really good at predicting the language I will use based on the first word.

Bit more tricky when you mix english terms into a different language but still pretty damn impressive.

A bit nit picky but you got a double "so" in:

"We store your responses so so it's clear what you've been working on."

Re:YC W15 invites will be sent out today on Tuesday October 28, 2014 @12:19PM (#8521755)
They send out emails with both invitations and rejections. Based on previous batches around 1AM GMT time ?

At least that's what I found.

Re:Ask HN: What should I do? Help. Something on Wednesday October 01, 2014 @10:12AM (#8394409)
That was me one year ago.

I just graduated and I must say - I am really glad I did. It has been frustrating, exhausting and driving me mad for the most part of it.

I was working two jobs and attending the uni at the same time while having a normal relationship - all at the same time. It was getting harder and harder, no free time, no weekends no nothing, no me time. I have felt helpless and I was going to give up twice. The university was boring and I couldn't focus on the stuff we were doing there because it was to easy, and the way we were learning it was... not suitable for me.

Talk with people, it helps. You will feel frustrated for most of it, but I must say - it is really worth it. It is just a year, it would be a shame to lose the previous years. I promised myself that I will do it. And I stuck it out, got my "let's d this" hat on, kept the jobs, finished uni and now doing a gap year before my masters - I need a break. It will pass, talk to your girlfriend, and relax - it seems like an impossible thing to do, but you will be glad once you graduate.

Re:Ask HN: Are you a drinker or a teetotaler? on Friday September 19, 2014 @10:02AM (#8340524)
I'm totally opposite - "Don't eat it - more for me" goes though my head. Seriously addicted to sweets, I can't go a day without a treat, but I can go months without alcohol.

Very nice indeed, found something to hang in my living room ;) Nothing to add more, I'm just impressed.
Re:Ask HN: Do you easily come up with new ideas? on Monday September 15, 2014 @07:02PM (#8322077)
This ^

The small notebook I started carrying around with me everywhere is what actually boosted my imagination. Before I had some ideas here and there, usually on a run, but since I got my little black book with me all the time I'm a idea-factory.

Just not enough time for execution.

Re:Programmer to Manager on Friday August 01, 2014 @05:26AM (#8118951)
I am actually in the same spot as you are - 2,5 years into programming and there is this opportunity to switch to another role. All the good managers I ever met or had the pleasure of working with were form a technical background - but they were working as the programmer for over 6-8 years each. It does stand for something.

It really boils down into one point: how happy would you be doing whatever you choose to do - there is nothing worse than a manager that hates his job or a programmer that doesn't feel the "drive" and passion to work.

Personally, I do not feel equipped to switch into management just yet - I am not confident enough I would make the best decisions, and I am leaning towards staying in my role a while longer, just to be totally sure I acquired all the necessary skills.
