This sounds cool and a great use case for Iroh
Re:Herdr has released native app on Friday October 30, 2026 @04:31AM (#50301189)
Herdr is great, one of the exceptionally few TUI applications I actually use daily

On the note of libghostty it does get me very excited about the new multiplexer thing Hashimoto is building with it

It takes a lot of derangement to see a story about North Korea hackers attacking a Chinese exchange and process it in terms of Donald Trump
Re:Hex Raises $100M on Wednesday October 28, 2026 @03:30PM (#50279536)
They have "marimohub" you can share stuff on but also can export to standalone HTML or docs with ``marimo export``

It has WASM support via Pyodide so people can use the notebooks without a python server or toolchain

Re:Hex Raises $100M on Tuesday October 27, 2026 @06:10PM (#50266557)
I used to use Hex but Marimo (OSS local first) honestly renders it completely obsolete for me

It similarly offers the combo of SQL and dataframes, built in dataviz and UI widgets, great LLM integration and essentially everything else one would want from either a notebook or a BI tool

It would be helpful to know how this is different than the other OSS rebuilds
They had a reveal for the remake on Gamescom Opening Night Live and it was pretty prominently marketed there as well
Would be bizarre if Dutch government just straight up lied about this
Re:Anthropic logged net loss of over $80B in first half of 2026 on Wednesday October 21, 2026 @05:25AM (#50178016)
Krugman talks a bit about the subject here

Robert Gordon pointed out that the 90s productivity gains attributable to IT where overwhelmingly attributable to the manufacturing of computer hardware itself and secondarily the computerization of retail logistics

Daron Acemoglu's prediction is that Total Factor Productivity gains from AI will be a <0.55% increase over the next 10 years

https://web.archive.org/web/20230405154054/https://www.nytim... https://web.archive.org/web/20230405154056/https://www.nytim...

There is no direction this can head in other than inevitable enshittification and price increases that invariably push the majority of users towards open weight models
Very absurd notion given that most economists recognize personal computers and the internet have barely impacted labor productivity and global GDP outside of consumption spending

Embedded and industrial computing however have had a profound impact

The vast majority of LLM usage probably would pass evals equally well on a smaller model

I see tons of devs fretting about how only Opus is "smart" enough for the React CRUD web app they are building even though Sonnet and Chinese models are demonstrably equivalent for most real world developer use cases

As a defacto single party state, Singapore is definitely in the category of "disregarding democracy" like the above poster said

It's not slop at all. Definitely the most fun I've had with a browser-based game in many years and its extremely impressive
A lot of this is this is just invented.

Many French would have you believe women wearing Hijab should be banned lest it destroy their "western culture" when even the most Islamophobic Americans don't care

A 5% Muslim population in UK is supposedly threatening to send them back to the dark ages when Singapore is at 15% with codified multicultural guarantees and somehow annihilates them in every measure of modernity and development

It's misdirection to the point of conspiracy theory to assume that Germany is incapable of organically producing a hateful far-right movement like AFD without it being manufactured by Russia
That they are rabidly pro-Israel while simultaneously glorifying Hitler and indulging in conspiracy theories of Jewish domination certainly lends credence to the idea that anti-Zionism ≠ antisemitism
Re:Mitos editor is a fork of Helix on Sunday October 18, 2026 @05:26PM (#50145649)
They allude it at the end by talking about faster iteration but the real, legitimate reason to fork Helix is that it is essentially inactive at this point

The last release was in July 2025

For how much Blow complains about modern software performance and bloat I was disappointed to hear a lot of reports that the performance is apparently bad, even for a type of game popular in the 8-bit era
Re:AI was great until it was not on Thursday October 15, 2026 @07:50AM (#50102350)
Yeah this is infinitely preferable to meetings, particularly if you're on remote teams where someone is forced to be online at unhealthy hours
It's a nice font but the nix package constantly gets reupdated and forces a new build instead of going through binary caches for some reason.

I uninstalled it specifically because it was slowing down my updates and builds

Re:How to engineer an AI harness for game development on Tuesday October 13, 2026 @05:58PM (#50079470)
Kyle seems smart and I enjoy some ideas on his podcast and blog. But I do think his many strong opinions about how games should be developed are reflective of a lack of experience shipping stuff with an actual playerbase

It's conceptually interesting but I don't know it is instructive beyond simple projects

Warfare is when people post opinions online that I don't like /s
I see no evidence presented here or elsewhere that this attack stopped Russian "bots" rather than just search engine crawlers

If the strongest "evidence" is anecdotal reports that pro-Russia posting on Reddit decreased that seems more like Redditor confirmation bias and delusion than proof of a propaganda bot farm co-located with Yandex

Re:Scientists wonder: Is my AI stealing my ideas? on Tuesday October 13, 2026 @01:28PM (#50075410)
It makes no sense that the LLMs could be solving problems based on prompts given by individual scientists

Are they implying that chat history of a single person is being taken an used to skew post-training results?

Why would it only be for Navier-Stokes that we see this having an effect

There are 1 million times more prompts being processed for stuff like furry roleplay than unsolved scientific problems

Re:Total Annihilation, rebuilt for modern computers on Sunday October 11, 2026 @04:44PM (#50047634)
The sarcasm isn't warranted

It's very much a game of team coordination where the power curve is exponential but also can have huge turnarounds since buildings are fragile but drive the economy entirely

So naturally you have to know how to play your specific role or it can throw the game for everyone else

It's not casual like Command and Conquer or something, but nor is it incredibly sweaty like StarCraft or DOTA

Re:Unikernels were hard. key word: were on Sunday October 11, 2026 @10:49AM (#50043892)
> I think dependent types are the winner for next-generation languages. Anything that lets you codify more into the type system is more back pressure.

This is one reason I'm so bullish on Lean4 as a general programming language

It's now essentially proven that expressive, strong type systems like those of Rust present an advantage for LLM assisted coding

Lean's type system, in which types are first class, fully programmable objects takes it so much further. Particularly when it comes to embracing dependant types

Re:`123456' password used in Danish CPR data breach on Saturday October 10, 2026 @07:23AM (#50031811)
Personal numbers and social security numbers in US are horrible idea, essentially a password and username simultaneously
Re:`123456' password used in Danish CPR data breach on Saturday October 10, 2026 @07:21AM (#50031796)
The guys who are really into keyboard layouts would argue vehemently that 123456 is more ergonomic as it's an "inward roll" vs 6 consecutive presses of a key that aligns to the pinky
Re: on Wednesday October 07, 2026 @02:52PM (#49997213)
Yeah I have zero desire to play an OpenGL typescript web game

If you're gonna vibecode based on a decomp of a native desktop app you might as well make something with Rust and WASM/WebGPU that performs well and feels native
