So? Then the market will adjust. Seems a net win for customer and seller.
Re:Ketamine has 'fast-acting benefits' for depression on Monday April 16, 2018 @09:57AM (#16848998)
From what we know now, nearly every habitual behavior is likely to affect your biome. Excersize still has a larger effect than most drugs, but we can't seem to perscribe it.
Is this pure correlation? are people drinking every day also less likely to have other more healthy habits?
Aledgedly, with no details.
Nagware... great idea. Now i will just need a google blocker.

Re:Why Entrepreneurs Start Companies Rather Than Join Them on Saturday April 14, 2018 @07:20AM (#16836870)
Even the best tech needs foundations, buildings and services to function. Get off your high horse. Money is where friction is, not nessarrily, or even usually, advancement in tech. Not to mention non tech companies are dying at a much slower rate than tech ones if you plotted them all.
I have on good authority that everyone who owns or uses a toaster, will in fact die.
I struggle to name a single source that is not Signifigantly biased. But worse than ever, fewer orgs seem to speak with a single editorial voice. One NYT article will be well sourced and informative, and the next will be raving identity-politics hate-fuel without a single citation or fact. Even distinguishing by outfit is outdated. Perhaps I just need to follow more writers, but I worry of creating my own bubble. Its a tall order.
But News is very much commercial speech as well, if not moreso than political.
Wow. So worried about their own self image they attack the NTSB as if they were worried about theirs? What a PR travesty. Then they go on to say their self-proclaimed safest cars in the universe should be above suspicion or investigation. If I ever wanted a Tesla, that ship has now sailed. I cannot support this level of thoughtlessness. This is not the way to make the world a better place. Step up and take responsibility, or at least stop issuing half-truths to the media as facts.

Even with all the custumer antagonizing anti-repair bs, I did not expect this from them.

1st link, 'javascript is required'. Brutal indeed.
Re:Anne Wojcicki on How to Build the Future on Friday April 13, 2018 @03:35PM (#16833243)
There has always been a perception amoung many techies and ents that "wall street" represented the old, entrenched, 'rent-seeking' capitolism, while SV style was 'changing the world', dispuptive, and somehow more egalitarian. It seems to mirror the political divide somewhat, with many younger more visionary types going for broke out west, and the more risk adverse finding a reliable income in finance. Its a matter of perspective as much as philosophy.
I can say, buy not attribute, that they are in fact reacting quite quickly.
No, even driving 200miles a day, for 15 years in a 1978 suburban with bad rings is less poluting than producing a single eCar.
Re:Reddit's redesign could kill discussion subreddits on Friday April 13, 2018 @01:10PM (#16831879)
This should be the top comment. The dark UX forcing an app down your throat for a website is appalling. Also is the chorus of illiterate responsers to every post like this pushing yet another 3rd party app. The website is broken if you need an app.

Usenet was (largely) uncensored, that is a huge difference.
Re:Road safety tips from Sweden on Friday April 13, 2018 @12:56PM (#16831756)
I hate speedbumps in my sportscar. Under 20, I often scrape. I have found speeding to 40+ allows my suspension to soak it up rather than upsetting the chassis. They have effectively incentivised my speeding. So, with each "solution", a problem.
Re:Road safety tips from Sweden on Friday April 13, 2018 @12:54PM (#16831732)
And I own one!

It is used to shut off the beeping when carrying groceries in my passenger seat. Cheap and effective. But the initial thought betrays some reasoning.

If you are affected by this as aparent, you are the problem. Youtube is unregulated, and full of much worze than this. Take some personal responsibility. Very suprised to see this old opinion parroted here.
Re:Google loses ‘right to be forgotten’ case on Friday April 13, 2018 @12:26PM (#16831495)
But the information in the case being discussed is factually true, and undisputed. Why argue like its not literally the case here?
Re:Tesla Was Kicked Off Fatal Crash Probe by NTSB on Friday April 13, 2018 @11:01AM (#16830590)
Not dumb at all, it is the big unspoken elephant in the room. It is clear that the current, and next iteritave version of autopilot, self driving, etc. are woefully behild the hype. While in theory a "perfect" ai driver is better, is it true in the chaos of real world traffic? Will drivers even want to be subject to NTSB level scrutiny when an accident happens? There are more questions than answers still.
Re:Ban Targeted Advertising on Friday April 13, 2018 @10:16AM (#16830184)
There were services that recieve and scan your mail, I suspect they still exist. I used one about a decade ago. Some po boxes also offer the feature. You still need to pay to fwd things you need in hard copy or pick them up. Grreat while traveling.
Re:Ban Targeted Advertising on Friday April 13, 2018 @10:09AM (#16830105)
I also do this, as do a few friends. It may not be effective, but it feels great not to support terrible ads.

It seems like my process for shopping begins with whitelist search (Does my favorite brand make one?), to domain search (what options are available), to blacklist filter (nope, not that brand), now finally actual product evaluation, then price/value judgement when combined with any emotional(immediate) or future rewards for buying the product.

I then check my balance/wallet, make a second value decision, and accept that I can't afford it and buy the cheap one, if at all. /s

But that is why some bad brands persist, simple economics. The advertising is just a byproduct at that point, there to establish it as 'viable' in our mind for that final desprate decision.

My favorite ads demonstrate without evangalizing, and let me feel like I decided. How hard is that?

Maybe that is a serious problem.
Can we clear these troll accounts? This is beyond childish.
Re:Ask HN: How do you usually deal with toxic co-workers? on Monday April 09, 2018 @09:34PM (#16798351)
Usually anyone referring to someone as 'toxic' is the one unwilling to meet halfway. Start bu realizing you are both terrified little humans, bridge the gap, and move on with life. No person is 'toxic', only or reactions to them.

Tldr; You can only fix you, so start on it.

They also tend to come in glass or cans.

Aha! Someone found the value add!
Re:Uber enters dockless bike wars with Jump acquisition on Monday April 09, 2018 @08:14PM (#16798060)
The army figured this out in ww2 to extract soldiers and others. Using a harness and pole attached to the rider, and catch cable attached to a plane, the rider is plucked at speed into the air. Much like the old air-mail systems. There are youtube videos of it.
